Is the software that you mention Disk First Aid?
If yes, which version of it?

Apple Mac SE (AKA Pandora's Box)

2003-08-09 Thread d . michael . harris
Hi:

I am the individual with the Mac SE who couldn't get the system to boot up?
Well, with the help of J S, I have gotten the system to boot up. Now there
is another problem.

When I get to the desktop, the SCS HD 20 is not on the desktop. Nor can I
find it to access it anywhere. I notice that the light for the hard drive is
flashing while the disk drive is running. My concern is what to do next. I
have no manuals or any idea where to locate a troubleshooting manual for the
SE.

So, I can only get the system to work with the floppy disks.

Worse that that, while the software to analyse the hard drive finds a
Miniscri 20, it can't mount it. I'm guessing that the system software is
trying to analyse the floppy disk I inserted. I also get a
cable/communications error when trying to analyse the system.

Ok, how do I proceed from here?

Re: Apple Mac SE (AKA Pandora's Box)

2003-08-09 Thread Antonio Rodríguez
Hi, David.

I think the matter is simple than you think. As far as I know, the SE doesn't
have any problem booting from internal hard drives (given that connections,
terminators, etc. are correctly set up).

I suppose that you are using an SCSI setup utility to prepare your disk. If you
are using Apple HD SC Setup utility, you must know that, unless you patch it (or
get a patched version) it won't allow you to prepare non-Apple drives. You can
get a patched version of Apple HD SC Setup from my FTP server:

ftp://grijan.cjb.net:21000/Macintosh/Software/Utilities/hd_sc_setup_735-patched.sea.bin

If this patched Apple HD SC Setup doesn't see the drive (which I doubt), you most
likely have a hardware problem. If it sees it, you can try the Update option,
and if it doesn't work, you can try the Initialize option. This may get your
drive working.

Greetings,

Antonio Rodríguez (Grijan)

 Hi:

I made a typo in the last E-mail to the group:

So, it's off to find an external HD for Pandora's Box. No more banging my
head about this until I get the right (not internal but) external HD, which I
have no clue what Apple would have shipped with it, if it were sold new. Can
anyone offer me any suggestions as to what I should look for? What are the
types of external that work best with the SE?

 Thanks,
 David Harris
