The Patch is included in Maverick, it’s working now - I think, the bug
should be closed?

Yes, I agree with you. The > is not a bug in itself, but a workaround
which should not be used as it cripples people with non-intel cards.

2010-11-12 Thread Kory
Honestly, it should be strictly greater than (>). The bug you show may be
related to a different issue or in compiz in a different part of the code.
They need to leave it as greater than and fix the other problems rather than
leaving this as a work-around that affects other people. My guess is that
someone else did a similar check in the code elsewhere or some other >=

[Compiz] [Bug 91784] Re: The modal behavior of "Show Desktop" is confusing

2010-11-12 Thread Vish
In Ubuntu 10.10 Unity there is no 'Desktop' and no icons can be placed on the
desktop.
Previously when we had Files/launcher icons on the Gnome Desktop this Show
Desktop plugin had a purpose, not sure why we need to see the desktop now..

If we are not going to change this behavior for Unity 11.04, what is the
point of this plugin? Are we changing this behavior?

[Compiz] [Bug 663788] Re: "Extra" visual effects are reverted to "none" at random or when going into compiz settings manager

2010-11-12 Thread Mauro
I am replying as the "bug opener".
I can't obviously make anything out of your logs, but I am reporting here what
MAY be the permanent solution (or was for me).
I was waiting to publish it here or on a thread over at ubuntu forums because
I'd like to go a little more days to see if it sticks in place.

Anyway, purging *compiz* from synaptic, removing compiz ppa (in your case, you
don't seem to have one, but install ubuntu-tweak and go into the purge section,
you never know) then reinstalling, appeared to solve temporarily, but I always
got the effects being disabled.
I also had x-updates ppa active, but I had already disabled it, and tried the
ppa-purge package off the official repositories, which told me he didn't find
any reference whatsoever to packages from x-updates; in the meantime I kept
having the probems.

Anyway, that's when I discovered ubuntu.tweak had its own ppa purge
function, at which point I purged the system for x-updates, and it
actually downloaded the "vanilla" X packaged and installed them over the
x-updates ones. After which my comèpiz has been working smooth ever
since (couple of workdays, maybe too soon to say for sure).

I occasionally had the "window maximize/minimize/close buttons
disappeared" issue, that happened a few times... but it only took a
logout/login to get it solved (?).

Bottomline, I have vanilla compiz and vanilla X drivers packages now.

[Compiz] [Bug 663788] Re: "Extra" visual effects are reverted to "none" at random or when going into compiz settings manager

2010-11-12 Thread TheBlueSage
I am having similar behavior :

I had it working perfectly. Compiz 0.8(.unknown) (default for Ubuntu lucid),
running with Cairo dock and emerald, and a small gnome-panel.
I performed an apt-get dist-upgrade to Maverick. All okay. Everything still
worked.
Then two days ago I did a 'general package update'. I noticed that some of the
compiz package versions moved up to 0.9.2.1, but not all of them. I have no PPA
references in my sources.list.
Everything was fine after the upgrade until I shut down my laptop. The next day
I booted up and all went bad.
All my window borders were gone. I was able to use fusion-icon to reset my
window decorator to gtk-window-decorator, but nothing I can do brings back my
Emerald theme
The gone panel I had that was in 'hide until mouse over' mode on the top of my
screen is now frozen in place. I cannot make it appear in any way shape or
form. This means I also have no access to my Applications/Places/System menu.
I was able to fire up the compiz-settings-manager, but clicking on anything
that has a check box next to it causes the settings manager to disappear. None
of my previous settings are checked (cube, reflections, no of desktops etc)

System details :

HP HDX18T laptop, Intel Quadcore, 6Gig RAM, Nvidia GeForce GT 130M, NVIDIA

The > check is apparently NOT fine for Intel graphics. I haven't tried
compiling your fix myself yet (going to try this weekend, never built a module
before :-/), but Bug #428769 reports that when > is used, you get a blank
screen (with possibly one visible column of pixels).
Intel graphics with 2048 wide screens is presumably becoming a very common
setup, and I don't understand why Compiz shouldn't work on it.

2010-11-12 Thread Kory
Having the > check is fine, having the >= check is just plain wrong. They
need to resolve this because I hate having to keep recompiling this thing
after every update. Apparently it is very low priority and I even pointed
out the exact fix that needs to be made. Someone just has to approve and
fix it as stated in the report. Then everything will be fine.

[Compiz] [Bug 600867] Re: Compiz fails to load when screen width == maxTextureSize

2010-11-12 Thread Brian Starkey
I have this on an intel 945GM card.
I think the >= check was added due to Bug #428769, but why is this necessary?
If my max texture size is 2048, why can't I use a 2048 resolution?
