I use the "minimize" button in the menu bar. Note tha the behavior is not confined to Pidgin (my example #2 minimizes gedit instead). I'll play around some more and see if I can find any more clues. [Compiz] [Bug 880998] [NEW] Grid plugin activates when dragging other mouse buttons
You have been subscribed to a public bug: This is a weird bug. It seems to be most reproducible if you have a maximized window (for example, Banshee). If you have another compiz feature mapped to a mouse button (for example, one of the thumb buttons set to the scale plugin) and you hold that button and move the mouse (as needs to be done to use the scale plugin), the outlines of the grid plugin trying to snap the focused fullscreen window to the side or top of the screen will appear. If this happens, the outlines will continue to appear even after releasing the button, and will sometimes even move to follow the cursor. This behavior seems to continue until you click on an indicator icon. Happens under Oneiric using fglrx 11.9, did not happen in Natty with fglrx 11.9. ** Affects: unity Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete -- Grid plugin activates when dragging other mouse buttons https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/880998 You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Compiz] [Bug 877702] [NEW] Regression - [Super + W] includes minimized windows
You have been subscribed to a public bug: In Natty [Super + W] used to show windows on all workspaces but not minimized ones. In Oneiric all windows are shown from all workspaces including minimized ones. If you have more than a few programs running Super + W becomes pretty much useless as an 'improved productivity' tool. I suggest either: That the behavior is reverted to be the same as Natty - [Super + W] shows windows from all workspaces but NOT minimized windows. Or That when [Super + W] is used minimized windows are separated a bit like in OS X >= Snow Leopard (see screenshot attached) to make it easy to tell what you are currently working on and what you're not. Notice in the OS X screenshot the minimized windows are included but they are separated from 'open' windows by a line; they are shown smaller and they are shown near to the dock/launcher. ** Affects: unity Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Regression - [Super + W] includes minimized windows https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/877702 You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Compiz] [Bug 879047] [NEW] Child windows invisible in Unity scale mode
You have been subscribed to a public bug: The scale plugin called by Unity does not render child windows of applications such as Firefox, Pidgin, and Empathy after the child window is minimized. It is impossible to use the Unity launcher to manage these types of applications when minimized. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open Firefox, select "Tools - Downloads" from the menu. This will spawn the "Downloads" child window. 2. Minimize the "Downloads" window. 3. Double left-click the Firefox launcher at left. 4. Main Firefox window will render when the "scale" plugin is activated, but the child window is invisible (screenshot attached). Other observations: This doesn't affect multiple windows of the same application - e.g. two Chrome browser windows. You can left-click in the area of the scale mode where the child window should be to restore it. [Compiz] [Bug 879971] [NEW] Can't highlight bottom row of workspaces with mouse (Unity workspace switcher)
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have the default four workspaces. In the unity workspace switcher, when I single-click the top half of the area of a workspace, I can't highlight it. I can only select a space, when I click somewhere bellow the bottom half of its area (as defined by the orange border). This problem happens ONLY to the bottom two of the four available workspaces. Also I can double click anywhere and the space switches. So, the problem is only with the selection/highlighting of the workspace. [Compiz] [Bug 881656] [NEW] Artifact in screen when switching workspaces
You have been subscribed to a public bug: The following is reproducible 100 % of the time in my desktop machine. It doesn't seem to be specific to any graphic card. It seems to be caused by Unity Launcher (read workaround). When I switch to another workspace (does not matter if I open any window on it) then return to previous workspaces, if there remains some maximized window and then I unhide unity launcher by any mean (moving the mouse pointer for example) a rectangular transparent "window" appears at the same screen position than Unity launcher, and remains even when Unity hides. See attached image. In resume: open any window, maximize it, switch workspace, come back to first workspace, show Unity by moving the mouse pointer to screen side, the "rectangle" will appears. Workaround: One option is to restart the session. Other is to restore the maximized window and move it from left to right for a while, this will cause launcher to unhide and hide again and the rectangular "window" will disappear. Note: changing how launcher hides does not solve anything, the rectangular "thing" is still there when I switch workspaces as long as a maximized window is in the first workspace, probably if one maximized window is in the second workspace the same will happen but in the second workspace. Ubuntu version: 11.10 (AMD64) Session type: default GPU: Intel GMA X4500 All updates to date applied. [Compiz] [Bug 884005] [NEW] After upgrading to Oneiric, Unity leaves focus on previous viewport when switching viewports via the Compiz Expo plugin
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hi, The problem: I have Expo view mapped to my middle mouse button. Ever since upgrading from Natty to Oneric, whenever I switch viewports by pressing the middle button to invoke Expo view, clicking on a different viewport, and then pressing the middle button again to exit Expo view, the mouse focus is remains on the most recently focused window in the previous viewport. Consequences of the problem: This is terribly frustrating in that, because I use the keyboard heavily and much more than the mouse, I'm constantly switching viewports (with the mouse) and then start typing again, only to have my keyboard input going to not only the wrong application, but the wrong viewport, where I cannot even see it. As you can imagine, I have occasionally had some pretty undesirable results due to my keyboard input being directed to the wrong window (e.g., intending to copy and paste between windows residing in different viewports and having my keystrokes, after switching viewports, replacing the source of the copy operation because the mouse focus was on the wrong window/viewport). Expected behavior: When switching viewports, no matter the method, the window at the top of the Z-order for that viewport should get the mouse focus, just as it did in Natty, 10.x, and 9.x. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Compiz] [Bug 885070] [NEW] "Move to Another Workspace" causes window to disappear
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After logging into the "Ubuntu" session (this does not happen with "Ubuntu 2D", only 3D), moving a window to another workspace makes it disappear. I tried this with several applications in the launcher, and got the same result. Although the processes aren't dead, they no longer show as open in the Unity launcher, and disappear. I've got a 3x3 workspace grid. The other strange thing, which might be related, is that the pull-down menu always shows "Move to Workspace Right" even if it's not possible to go right, and no other relative options (Left, Up, Down) are ever shown even when it's possible to go in those directions given the current position in the grid. I suppose this could be a compiz bug as it doesn't happen with metacity. I wasn't sure whether to file it under compiz or unity. [Compiz] [Bug 886646] [NEW] Blank screen after disabling monitor in unity 3d
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have been experiencing this bug since Natty, still present in Oneiric, but only reporting it now, a co-worker of mine was able to reproduce it as well. On my Dell Latitude E6410, I move between work and home. In both locations, I have an external DVI monitor configured to the left of my primary monitor. Using xrandr or just the gnome displays tools, when I disable the DVI monitor, the monitor disables, but the laptop screen goes black. The mouse cursor is visible and I can use it to confirm that the dimensions of the desktop match the laptop screen. If I use gnome display, and let it time out after 30 seconds, it comes back. If I immediately disable it a second time, it works and the laptop correctly shows the desktop. This happens with both of my external LCDs and is 100% reproducible. 1) boot with ext monitor 2) disable monitor (blank screen) 3) disable again, works 4) put laptop into standby 5) connect at work to LCD 6) disable LD, blank screen results 7) disable again, works 2nd time. This is very frustrating, and if you use xrandr, where there is no 30 second delay you then have to go to a tty to restart unity to fix the issue. [Compiz] [Bug 889522] [NEW] closing/minimizing window incorrectly raises another window
You have been subscribed to a public bug: This has to be a duplicate of another bug already reported, but I couldn't find one that addresses the situation after an hour of searching. In Oneiric, I find that the focus-and-raise window behavior under Unity 3D (I have version 4.24.0-0ubuntu2b1) has some issues, particularly when minimizing/closing a window that lies on top of another one. It seems that the window that is immediately below the one I am dismissing is automatically raised to the front, even if there is another window that is in front of it. For example: (1) Begin with windows arranged as I have shown in attached screenshot "allopen1.png". (2) Minimize the Pidgin window. The result is shown in attached screenshot "pidginmin1.png". Notice that the Firefox window that was immediately below the Pidgin window was raised, even though there was a Gedit window open on top of it (but not overlapping with Pidgin) to the right. I would expect that the Gedit window should still stay on top. Another example: (1) Begin with windows arranged as shown in "allopen2.png". (2) Now minimize the Gedit window. [Compiz] [Bug 890286] [NEW] Focus follows mouse behavior after window close faulty
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Under Unity using focus follows mouse if you are working in window A, then mouse over window B and close it with a keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+W, Alt+F4, etc) but the cursor has passed over window C( or even if window C is behind window B but has never had focus) window C is brought to the front. Prior to Unity, window A remained in front. The old behavior is obviously much more reasonable since the last program to have focus is much less relevant than the last program to be in front. In a context where the front window always has focus, the difference is irrelevant, but when a window in the background can have focus and receive input, the assumption is that the user chooses which windows to bring up, and so bringing one to the front when user closes a third, unrelated, window is distracting, and upsets workflow. I like unity, but I like focus follows mouse more, and currently this bug (combined with the menu issues, for which, at least there are workarounds) makes the two only barely compatible. ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Focus follows mouse behavior after window close faulty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/890286 You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
