[Compiz] [Bug 1749839] Re: 16.04: Installation of the 2/15/18 update to compiz forced removal of unity and ubuntu-desktop

2018-02-15 Thread Andrew Vian
I also have this same issue. I did not have another GUI installed,
meaning I have no fallback package. No launcher or taskbar is present.
Luckily, I can get access a terminal from the drop-down menu by right-
clicking the desktop.

[Compiz] [Bug 1424013] Re: Compiz high CPU and UI freeze on NVIDIA after fix for #269904 in trusty-updates

2016-10-13 Thread Andrew Findlay
I found the black-screen problem on a Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop after
doing an update on 14.04 LTS recently (early September 2016). This is a
32-bit machine.

As a workaround I installed flashback:
apt-get install inxi gnome-session-flashback compizconfig-settings-manager

I could then select either of the Gnome options and log in OK (i.e. it
works with both Metacity and Compiz, but the normal Ubuntu session
fails).

OpenGL renderer string: GeForce Go 7300/PCIe/SSE2

Turning off X11 Sync Objects did not fix it.
I then tried some different drivers using
System Settings -> Software and Updates -> Additional Drivers
X.Org with Nouveau did not work at all
Nvidia 173 works OK.

Summary: using the older Nvidia 173 driver is an adequate workaround for
me, but it looks as if this problem is more complex than just 'Sync
Objects'.

[Compiz] [Bug 815996] Re: Desktop occasionally freezes/locks up when switching workspaces

2016-04-28 Thread Andrew
I have a similar bug, but i'm not sure if it's the same issue. I'm not
using compiz as far as i know and i don't think i have the workspaces
enabled. But after upgrading from 14.04 to 16.04 my system freezes often
when chrome is up and a video. It almost seems like a memory problem,
but perhaps it's related to the graphics driver. Here is my bug that i
reported. If it's not the same, then just ignore my comments. But it's a
serious problem.

[Compiz] [Bug 1304567] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc_consolidate()

2014-04-08 Thread Andrew Fladmark
Sorry, Seth. I'm not sure what happened there. I didn't tick the
security issue option when I submitted the bug. I only noticed it had
set it private after, but I wasn't sure if there was some other reason
for it.

[Compiz] [Bug 1259012] [NEW] Several items in the clock menu don't do anything.

2013-12-08 Thread Andrew
Public bug reported:

Aside: This is probably reported against the wrong package. I'd like to
report a bug against whatever package provides the menu that appears
after clicking on Ubuntu's clock. For lack of any identifying name or
window title, I ran `ubuntu-bug -w` and then clicked the clock, and
Apport proceeded to file a bug against Compiz.

--

When I click any of the following items in the menu that appears after
clicking on the clock, nothing happens:

  - Sunday, 8 December 2013
  - Add Event…
  - UTC Dec 9 01:46

If this is the intended behavior, these menu items should provide visual
feedback to the user to communicate that they are noninteractive.

[Compiz] [Bug 1063617] Re: 1:0.9.8+bzr3319-0ubuntu1 regression: keeps setting gsettings keys to wrong values

2013-10-09 Thread Andrew Collett
I believe it may have something to do with the fact that alt goes to
that command unity thing. So each time we restart, it is reserved, but
not properly or something? Unlike say, ctrl, which if I use it in custom
shortcuts, it stays set.

[Compiz] [Bug 1063617] Re: 1:0.9.8+bzr3319-0ubuntu1 regression: keeps setting gsettings keys to wrong values

2013-09-11 Thread Andrew Collett
Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the same bug, but after setting custom shortcuts
on my system, they work until a reboot.

I'm on 13.04, and I'm wondering if this is a bug, or my own fault.

I have set custom shortcuts to do the following;
"alt+w" changes to next song (rhythmbox-client --next)
"alt+q" changes to previous song (rhythmbox-client --previous)

now before I get a chewing out, let me explain, I would like to have two
sets of shortcuts to change songs, as my laptop has media keys, but when
I "dock" it at home, my keyboard I use doesn't have media keys.

Thus the need for two sets of shortcuts.

They work perfectly, till I restart, at which point they stop working.
When I go into the keyboard shortcuts custom menu, they are still there
and set, but I hare to reset them before they work again.

Any ideas? same Bug?

[Compiz] [Bug 906231] Re: Unity rendered behind windows

2013-05-03 Thread Andrew
Thanks, Brandon. I have opened a bug report (bug 1059715), and in fact
have even included a screencast to demonstrate how to reproduce it.

That bug report was marked as a duplicate of this one.

I can still reproduce this [1] behavior in Ubuntu 13.04. I think the
screencast is self-explanatory.

[Compiz] [Bug 863192] Re: Compiz using large amounts of CPU when running Chrome

2013-03-22 Thread Andrew Schulman
Confirmed that this is still a problem in 12.04. It's definitely the
same as http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=98869. When
a pinned tab starts flashing, CPU usage jumps. To bring it back down
again, you have to select the pinned tab, then select a different tab.

There's no fix yet and no option to stop pinned tabs from flashing when
their content changes. The workaround is to unpin the tabs.

2013-03-18 Thread Andrew Comminos
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 92599 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/92599

This isn't a duplicate of #92599. This is with Detect Refresh Rate
turned OFF (no detection whatsoever) and a custom value set- it simply
isn't saving it.

[Compiz] [Bug 1156838] [NEW] Custom refresh rate setting in ccsm isn't retained

2013-03-18 Thread Andrew Comminos
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

1) Open ccsm, 'Composite' category
2) Uncheck 'Detect Refresh Rate'
3) Set a custom refresh rate
4) Log out
5) Open ccsm and go back to 'Composite', note that the refresh rate has
defaulted back to 50

Running compiz version 0.9.9~daily13.03.08-0ubuntu1.

[Compiz] [Bug 980663] Re: Compiz won't start if "unredirect fullscreen windows" is enabled

I fixed this by unselecting "Have file manager handle the desktop" in
gnome-tweak-tool. This however is just a hack for users like me who
don't like desktop icons ;)

You might be able to use something like thunar or pcmanfm to handle the
desktop instead.

[Compiz] [Bug 771238] Re: Compiz 100% CPU over all cores after resuming from sleep

2012-04-25 Thread Andrew Hopkins
It isn't just AMD/ATI, I am running Nvidia 8800 Ultra and Intel Core 2
Quad, had this problem the first time I hibernated my system yesterday,
the only way I can get around it is to log in with Gnome (no effects)
which is no fun lol. Running Mint 11 x64 (natty)

I'm seeing this as well. I've reported a new bug and marked it as a
duplicate just to include the apport collected information. See bug

@mc-return: Could you please run "apport-collect 963872" in a terminal.
This will automatically attach system information to this bug report
that can help the developers figure out the issue.

[Compiz] [Bug 764330] Re: Move window annoying slow with compiz

2011-11-16 Thread Andrew McNamara
I can confirm the usbhid setting addresses the problem for me (Logitech
G500). It was also possible to change while the compiz desktop was
running by "echo 4 > /sys/module/usbhid/parameters/mousepoll" as root,
then unplugging and replugging the mouse.

[Compiz] [Bug 876198] Re: When switching workspaces with rotate/cube previous Ws contents are momentarily displayed

2011-11-16 Thread Andrew Rowls
I'm suffering from this, too; rotate cube shows a flash of the previous
workspace, moving a window with rotate cube borks after the rotation,
and using "fade" for my focus animation causes a flicker instead of a
smooth fade ( might be #147141 ).

Oneiric x64, Intel core i5-2430M HD3000 integrated graphics with i915
driver. My environment is built up from an ubuntu server base, so no
unity. Xdm + ~/.xinitrc + compiz is my wm.

My workaround until this is resolved is to use Desktop Wall instead of
Cube. Wall works really well for both desktop switching and window
moving -- probably because it's the primary workspace manager for Unity.

[Compiz] [Bug 889590] [NEW] Compiz grid plugin confuses top edge with top right corner

2011-11-12 Thread Andrew Somerville
Public bug reported:

When using the "put top right" key combination of ctrl+alt+KP9 or when
setting upper right corner to "top right corner" under edges and then
moving a window to that corner, compiz mistakenly places the window
across the top edge rather than in the top right corner.

All other edges and corners appear to work correctly.

[Compiz] [Bug 865722] [NEW] Ubuntu wants me to replace buggy binary drivers from nvidia with older buggy drivers from nvidia supported by ubuntu

2011-10-03 Thread Andrew Golding
Public bug reported:

Compiz crashed, but before apport-gtk would give me any useful
information, apport-gtk demanded that I uninstall the nvidia drivers I
installed in order to remedy problems I was having with nvidia drivers
supplied by ubuntu. I would at least like to know what problem compiz
encountered even if I am using a supposedly unsupported drivers.

not sure:

I can no longer print on my network printer, and compiz crashes a little
after I try.

CUPS, compiz both buggy now?

[Compiz] [Bug 802527] Re: Stacking problem when switching between apps with multiple windows

2011-08-24 Thread Andrew
This is even worse than I thought.

If you have two windows maximized for the same application, and you
switch to that application, the wrong window is maximized in the
foreground. If you click the close title-bar icon, it closes the window
behind it, not the one that is currently maximized.

I just lost a ton of work because of this bug as Ubuntu closed my window
with all my unsaved changes instead of the window maximized on top with
no changes.

[Compiz] [Bug 86184] Re: Can't change cursor style using Compiz.

2011-04-30 Thread Karageorge-andrew
Having this issue in Natty, updated a few days ago. This seemed to be
fixed in Maverick but has reverted to its old ways.

I'd argue that this is an accessibility issue -- many users select a
large cursor theme for more visibility, but this is of no use if it
doesn't apply everywhere.

[Compiz] [Bug 758980] Re: compiz very jittery on fglrx (r600)

2011-04-28 Thread Andrew Rafferty
I had the exact same problem. I solved it by going in to Compiz settings
and then OpenGL (under the General section) and disabling Sync to
VBlank.

[Compiz] [Bug 759463] [NEW] Terminals opened via “Open a terminal” keybinding in gnomecompat plugin lack environment vars from gnome session

2011-04-12 Thread Andrew Bennetts
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

If I run a terminal via Alt-F2, “gnome-terminal”, , then I get a
fully functional terminal prompt. The environment in the resulting
shell contains variables like SSH_AUTH_SOCK, GNOME_KEYRING_CONTROL and
DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS.

If I run a terminal via Ctrl-Alt-T, which is the default keybinding for
the “Open a terminal” feature of the gnomecompat plugin, then I get a
subtly broken shell, lacking environment variables that allow me to use
my SSH private keys, etc.

[Compiz] [Bug 728998] Re: Turning on wobbly windows in compiz causes issues in workspace switcher

2011-04-03 Thread Andrew Toogood
This is a screen shot of what it does now, the multiple screen issue has
not happened since about alpha2 but still major issues with this compiz
plug-in.

As you can see from the screen-shot it gets stuck while in maximized
form.

Its not 100% reproducible but do the following it it is likely to
happen.

Turn on wobbly windows
open any window
move it to another window
maximize the window
Activate windows switcher
move the mouse around (it will bend like it is stuck to it.

hope that makes sense!

Re: [Compiz] [Bug 728998] Re: Turning on wobbly windows in compiz causes issues in workspace switcher

2011-04-03 Thread Andrew Toogood
I changed over to binary driver weeks ago and the issue still exists, to
make it happen do the following:

Turn on wobbly windows bring up workspace switcher when you have some
maximised windows and some not move them around for a while, you will
find windows freezing in place bent out of shape etc, and resizing in
strange positions.

Just retested again with beta1

Cheers,

AT

If so then it is fixed, as does not crash when enabled now, but it is
still unusable with workspace switcher.

[Compiz] [Bug 728998] Re: Turning on wobbly windows in compiz causes issues in workspace switcher

2011-03-25 Thread Andrew Toogood
Wobbly windows in compiz still breaks the window switcher, but compiz no
longer crashes when you first turn wobbly windows on.

This will need fixing or stopping it being turned on IMHO, remember this
is an old compiz default under Ubuntu so many will go looking for it.

2011-03-10 Thread Andrew Toogood
Just tried on classic gnome desktop and there is not an issue because
the entire panel is shown in each window.

Why does panel and launcher disappear in window switcher mode?

[Compiz] [Bug 90918] Re: Desktop-Effects Bug. Left Mouse Click doesn't work.

2011-01-28 Thread Andrew Davie
I get this, too. I've found that if the left-mouse button stops working
(on my external mouse), then if I click on the touchpad left-mouse
button, all reverts to normal. It seems to be stuck in some sort of
selection mode (sometimes text highlights as I move the mouse).

[Compiz] [Bug 631664] Re: Clock / calendar / locations applet opens on wrong position of screen

2010-12-01 Thread Andrew Cowie
Bug still entent on Maverick. Shouldn't need to be doing window
placement workaournds; Last time I checked the clock applet is
GDK_WINDOW_TYPE_HINT_DOCK and if so, Compiz is in error by repositioning
it to the middle of the right-hand side. It should be docked on the
panel.

[Compiz] [Bug 641430] [NEW] Cube - Unfold has animation bug on multiple desktops

2010-09-17 Thread Andrew Riddlestone
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
compiz 1:0.8.4-0ubuntu15

Using Desktop Cube on two monitors (through an ATI Technologies Inc
RV730 [FirePro V5700]) initially causes the current view from each
screen to appear in the center of that screen, as below:

| 1a | | 1b |

unfolds to:

| 0a | 0b | 1a | | 1b | 2a | 2b |

However, moving left or right causes the layout to snap to the following
for the duration of the animation:

| 0b | 1a | 1b | | 1a | 1b | 2a |

Once the animation completes, the layout snaps back.

Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to get screenshots.

[Compiz] [Bug 507837] Re: Desktop Effects prevents any window from stretching across dual monitors

2010-08-27 Thread Andrew Frank
even if there are technical reasons for the """feature""" - it needs to
be fixed such that the user action (resizing the window with the mouse)
is carried out without requiring a special command when it goes beyond
the screen. i have seen new graphics cards which allow 6 monitors!
anybody having used two monitors when coding will not go back and the
current """feature""" is in the way of flexible use. i have turned
compiz off, but not everybody will be willing to do this.

[Compiz] [Bug 515682] Re: Change "Show Desktop" keybinding to Super+D

2010-06-22 Thread Andrew Starr-Bochicchio
Three months to review a one line patch that was even spec'd at UDS-L.
Oh well...

@ Nigel:

You tagged this patch-needswork. Could you please elaborate on what
needs work? The currently proposed branch doesn't touch upstream code at
all. It patches debian/metacity-common.gconf-defaults. I suppose I could
re-write it to patch metacity itself, but upstream hasn't expressed any
interest. Things like setting different default keybindings seems
completely acceptable to do at the distro level. That's why we even have
tools like dh_gconf that make it dead simple to change a default gconf
setting in the packaging without patching the upstream source.

[Compiz] [Bug 580591] [NEW] compiz 'scale' window picker very slow in lucid

2010-05-14 Thread Andrew Gryaznov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz-fusion-plugins-main

After upgrade to 10.04 the 'scale plugin' window picker became horribly
slow: It has a lag of about 1-2 seconds in activation, does not cancel
the animation if I do activate it in process of scaling (which may take
up to 2-3 seconds) but instead it queues the actions and continues to
bounce repeatedly.

Also, while in 'scale' mode if I move mouse over scaled windows, the
additional lag of about 2 seconds is introduced for each window I hover
over, sometimes resulting in a lag of 5 or more seconds total before I
can use the activated window. The lag also shows in tooltips slowly
following my mouse trip: tooltips with windows names appear and
disappear each time with a lag, so total lag increases if I move the
mouse around.

The problem is, it was OK in 9.10 and worked perfectly. Also there is no
CPU activity during lags actually so the lag is definitely introduced
somewhere in the program.

I use proprietary ATI driver for ATI/AMD HD4350 graphics board, I am AMD 4050e
32-bit

[Compiz] [Bug 155101] Re: Applications that save position re-open at wrong location (shifted by window decorations)

2010-02-01 Thread Andrew Chadwick
Small python script to assist future testers. This is still present in
Karmic under Compiz, but not under Metacity. Repeated bouncing on the
Tab key shows and hides the small utility window, causing it to
gradually move down the screen with {compiz-gnome 1:0.8.4-0ubuntu2.1,
python-gtk2 2.16.0-0ubuntu1, libgtk2.0-0 2.18.3-1ubuntu2.1} at least.

[Compiz] [Bug 258078] Re: empathy contact list position after closing/re-opening

2010-02-01 Thread Andrew Chadwick
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 155101 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/155101

Marked as dup since the "keeps moving down and down" behaviour is
completely typical of a window unmapped and then re-mapped with
NorthWest window gravity under Compiz (even the Karmic one), and because
the OP didn't seem too certain about what WM he was using (sorry
lsmobrian! but gdm is not a window manager. A better question would be
"is it still happening, and do you have Desktop Effects turned on?") :)
