[Compiz] [Bug 1216781] Re: System got froze after resume from screen off
The merge request is now at https://code.launchpad.net/~timo- jyrinki/compiz/disable_unredirection_mesa90x_again/+merge/182362 - you'll need a core-dev to sponsor that branch into SRU upload to precise. A test build is built at ppa:unity-team/sru (https://launchpad.net /~unity- team/+archive/sru/+packages?field.name_filter=&field.status_filter=published&field.series_filter=precise). I'm not a Compiz developer as such, so I cannot evaluate whether it would be possible to fix the issue without disabling the unredirection feature again for Intel/Nouveau users running Mesa 9.0.x. Daniel van Vugt is the developer behind the blacklisting feature and the backports of the fullscreen unredirection to precise. ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu Precise) Assignee: (unassigned) => Timo Jyrinki (timo-jyrinki) ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Assignee: Timo Jyrinki (timo-jyrinki) => (unassigned) ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu Precise) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1216781 Title: System got froze after resume from screen off To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/1216781/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Compiz] [Bug 751605] Re: Multi-monitor - Windows maximize on the wrong monitor
danep: For testing the proposed update, I'd suggest you try updating only Compiz and not other -proposed packages, maybe there is something broken in the -proposed. One way to do that (I've found) is to enable proposed, look at Synaptic's upgradeable packages and sort the list by version number - it's easier that way to select all the compiz packages for updating at once, without causing dependency problems. [Compiz] [Bug 932520] Re: Some windows on start up don't show full window
Amr: Thanks a lot for testing! Sam asked me to check the bugs found via these two links - http://is.gd/kGbNQu and http://is.gd/IUlOY4 - your problem seems to be bug #987639, which means this fix would introduce a regression while fixing the Shotwell drawing issue. Potentially some of the others are an issue as well. Therefore this fix can't go in in its current form, without fixing the regressions it's introducing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/932520 Title: Some windows on start up don't show full window To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/932520/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Compiz] [Bug 932520] Re: Some windows on start up don't show full window
Sam mentioned those additional commits are not necessarily needed. Firstly they fix "in theory" regressions, not clearly identified ones. Secondly they cannot pulled in easily but parts of several commits may need to be extracted manually in order to get them. Therefore I've now built a package with just the '3110' commit added (modified to fit on top of other patches) installable from the following PPA: https://launchpad.net/~timo-jyrinki/+archive/compiz-12.04-fix-932520 With a brief smoke testing on my own precise machine, the Shotwell problem seems to be gone and I see no immediate adverse effects. In order for this to have any chance to go in, we will need testing on various computers and uses (games/Steam, movies, browsing, normal whole day work use etc). So please install the update from the PPA and use it for a couple of days / a week, and report back regardless of if you had problems or not. ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu Precise) Assignee: (unassigned) => Timo Jyrinki (timo-jyrinki) ** Branch linked: lp:~timo-jyrinki/compiz/compiz.fixlp932520 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/932520 Title: Some windows on start up don't show full window To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/932520/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Compiz] [Bug 932520] Re: Some windows on start up don't show full window
Some more details on this. The fix was committed to the branch that eventually became compiz/0.9.8 branch, so it was never applied to precise's branch 0.9.7. The patch fixing the issue is http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~compiz- team/compiz/0.9.8/revision/3110 - and it actually applies on top of 0.9.7. However it is a big patch and according to Sam it might need some additional patches. There we bump into the problem of fulfilling SRU requirements, and it becomes hard to verify whether the fixes don't cause regressions somewhere else. I believe the preferable way would be to have a simple patch that only addresses this single drawing problem and nothing else, but it's probably hard to do...

Alt-Tab to the window. Observed: Window jumps to being entirely on the far left workspace. Expected: Window stays where it was. + + [Regression Potential] + + Wall plugin / overlapping window behavior on multiple workspaces in + general. + + --- ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: Binary package hint: unity The bug works as follows: 1. Put a non-maximized window against the border of your workspace 2. Switch to the adjoining workspace 3. Select the window in Unity Expected Behavior You are switched back to the workspace with the window What actually happens You stay in the current workspace AND the window is shifted slightly into the current workspace Making it impossible to use without manually switching to the workspace and dragging the window back to where it was Screenshoted instructions: 1) Put an application window hard against the side of your workspace without maximizing it Bottom right workspace: http://rc.id.au/f/images/1-window-move-bug.png (All workspaces: http://rc.id.au/f/images/2-window-move-bug.png) 2) Go to a different workspace which shares an edge with your application Top right workspace: http://rc.id.au/f/images/3-window-move-bug.png 3) Click on the application within the launcher, and the application will jump a little way into the next workspace Top right workspace after clicking on XChat and Gwibber launcher icons: http://rc.id.au/f/images/4-window-move-bug.png To show this more, I reset the windows to their original locations from #1, went into the bottom left workspace and clicked on Gwibber again: http://rc.id.au/f/images/5-window-move-bug.png I hope that makes sense and explains the bug. [Compiz] [Bug 1091103] Re: Default blacklist string shouldn't contain double escape
** Also affects: compiz-core Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Note: similar to bug #1089246, this SRU only affects precise since on - quantal it wouldn't have an effect. + quantal/raring it wouldn't have an effect. [Impact] Incorrect default setting doesn't have the wanted effect of functional blacklist on precise, because of character escaping problems. [Test Case] The test case relies on a bug/feature of Intel driver that on modern Intel hardware like sandy bridge / ivy bridge, tear-free video playback is not possible without compositing if the video player doesn't use vsync itself. Thus tearing can be seen as an indication if unredirection is in effect or not. 0. Have intel hardware on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, with which this is easiest to test 1. In CCSM, set Composite -> unredirect_match to '(any)', ie. remove everything that comes after that, that would normally prevent unredirection in common video players. 2. Open http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCPkOpMHB7g in Firefox and play it full screen 3. Expected result: no tearing, because blacklist is in effect and prevents unredirection on Intel (and nouveau) regardless of the match setting Note: radeon always has tearfree Xv output, so you can't use a similar test and changing the blacklist string to include 'AMD' without forcing non-Xv X11 output [Regression Potential] Very low. Theoretically too excessive blacklisting could restore current precise behavior. --- The blacklist default option in a true precise environment - the only environment it's supposed to have an effect with its default setting - is not working. It seems that the default unredirect_driver_blacklist in the XML contains the same double escape as the test code. So the tests succeed, but in reality there is extra '\' in the default setting, preventing the regexp from working. This one, the current default doesn't work: (nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8\\.0 Either one of these works instead: (nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8\.0 (nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of compiz packagers, which is subscribed to compiz in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1091103 Title: Default blacklist string shouldn't contain double escape To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/1091103/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~compiz Post to : compiz@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~compiz More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

** Description changed: + Note: the blacklisting is only needed on precise. This is an unavoidable consequence of "Unredirect Fullscreen Windows". Workaround (1): CCSM > Composite > Unredirect Fullscreen Windows = OFF -or- Workaround (2): Check the settings of the application running fullscreen. [Compiz] [Bug 1050610] Re: gtk-window-decorator leaking window handles. Window operations become sluggish after a few days of usage
** Description changed: + [Impact] + + Memory leaking causing user visible problems like performance + degradation. + + [Test Case] + + GTK-Window-Decorator Resource Usage + === + Sam Spilsbury + + XRestop usage + - + #. Install xrestop (sudo apt-get install xrestop) + #. Run xrestop (eg, $ xrestop &) + #. Note the number in the "Wns" column for gtk-window-decorator + #. Open a window + #. Close that window + #. The number should be the same + + [Regression Potential] + + Low, has been well tested in Ubuntu 12.10. + + --- original bug report --- + gtk-window-decorator appears to be leaking window handles when windows are opened. The leak(s) correspond with performance degradation over time, especially on systems with relatively low amounts of VRAM (I have 256MB). User-visible symptoms include: * Performance degradation over time * Sluggish animations, such as when using Super-W and Super-S * When switching windows, window contents briefly drawn as black rectangles before being rendered correctly * Window decorations not drawn on new windows To reproduce: 1) install xrestop ("apt-get install xrestop") 2) In a terminal, launch xrestop. Keep it running, and observe the number of 'Wins' and amount of pixmam memory ('Pxm mem') associated with the gtk-window-decorator process 3) Open a new terminal (or any other) window. Observe that the number of windows had gone up by some amount. Opening a terminal window reliably results in exactly 19 extra window handles on my system. - 4) Close the window + 4) Close the window Expected results: Per xrestop, the number of window handles goes down when you close the window. (Are some of the handles are related to window-open animation? In that case I'd expect them to be disposed of when the animation is complete) Actual results: Per xrestop, the number of window handles remains the same when you close the window. I also observed that the total pixmap memory used by gtk-window- decorator steadily climbs over time. While closing a window does appear to release some pixmap memory, it does not seem to release all of it. Performace on my system with 256MB VRAM got really bad when the number of window handles in gtk-window-decorator climbed above 7000 and the total pixmap memory used by gtk-window-decorator was about 75MB. Killing + restarting gtk-window-decorator temporarily solves the problem. - xrestop output: xrestop - Display: localhost - Monitoring 32 clients. I have found that since updating to 12.04 windows have two detrimental regressions. 1. If I place a window between the first and second monitor (so it overlaps both), the window is forced back over. I can understand this for off-screen windows but between-monitors is silly. And there should be an option for turning this off if there isn't one already. 2. If I place a window half-off the bottom of the screen, all hell breaks loose. Firstly it snaps back up so it's all on the screen (makes sense if you like that sort of thing), but after that, there's no way to detach it from the bottom of the screen.
