Jeff Miles wrote: Excuse after excuse, it sounds like the person who refuses to buy a new car because the old one only has 250,000 miles on it. What's wrong with that? I think it all depends on what the car (or the computer) is used for. My father kept an old beat up car, torn seats, very high mileage, most things not working on it (e.g., windows, wipers, horn, lights, locks, some doors) because he used it solely to travel thru plowed dirt and rocky forest roads on his farms. Why waste a new car for this purpose if the service the old car was used for was likely to scratch the exterior, break a window, or tear up the oil pan? Re: [CGUYS] Reliable, free broadband speed test sites?
I'm hopelessly behind in my email but wanted to comment on this one. Switching (hopefully) to RCN internet and phone today from Comcast and want to do before and after speed test comparison. Also want to test speed as loading sites seems to have gotten much slower lately, getting back to dial-up type speeds, it seems. Tried a few free test sites - some no longer exist, I am also on Comcast and have noted the same problem. And , it's on every site I go to. I'd have thought it was a problem with my machine but my husband is having the same problem on his. We're left drumming our fingers , waiting for a page to load that used to come in immediately. And email is slow as welland at times I'm unable to even send out some emails. If I go to my .mac acct I can send them with no problem and I wonder about Comcast's ability to censor what I send out. The rejected email is always of a political nature. I"m sure it's just my paranoia, but I just tried sending out an email about Comcast's abuse of net neutrality and after many tries to get it to go out, gave up. Picked my mac account and it went right out. Anyway, what is RCN? Let us know if you like it. You look at a situation and try to find the right balance of a solution, rather than just blindly apply the single, dog-eared template that consultants can't bear to part with. You should put down the magic 8-ball try it some time. You should also try a wee bit of research for recycling options (it's that thinking thing again). Service Source in Va. takes CRTs for $10 each. Re: [CGUYS] Website & Browser question
This page opens OK for me using Firefox v. 2.0.0.9. Looking at the html source code, there are some obvious errors. First, there are two head sections, one embedded in the other. One head section is all that should be there. Second, there is no statement before . Immediately before the statement should appear: PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd";> Some html validators are at http://www.htmlvalidator.com/lite/ and at http://validator.w3.org/ Stephen Brownfield wrote: A friend/volunteer has worked on a web page for a number of years (>5yrs.). [CGUYS] Puzzling...
Perhaps one of you could help. I have a LAN wired network with three computers, a router and a cable modem. Working fine. All Windows XP. Then a Toshiba LapTop (Windows Vista) connected wireless to an Access Point and part of the home network. Fine too. Then a fourth computer still o=with Windows ME connected wirelessly to the Access Point. It seems that it is connected to the network OK but it can´t access the Internet and the e-mail. I have tried a lot of things to no avail. The connection is there OK but even in the connection it says that it is connected to the Access Point but can´t access the Internet (and the e-mail).
