Re: [CGUYS] TIFF file won't open
Have you checked the characteristics of the file(s)? Under "File" on the Mac, go to "Get Info." This should tell you whether you actually have something viable (& how large the files are). I agree, though, you should go back to the source. If Graphic Converter won't do it, you don't want to be messing with a boatload of these things. [CGUYS] Need Help to Make a PDF with a Small File Size
I've made a Real Estate Fact Sheet PDF for my GF, which looks nice but is too large to email to her. The first page has five color photos and weighs in at 25 MB. My tools are a G5 iMac running Mac OS 10.5.2, AppleWorks, and GraphicConverter. Somehow, even though I've tried to bring down the file size of the photos to about 400KB each in GC, pasting them into AW and using the iMac Print function to create the PDF, the file size seem to ballon up. What am I doing wrong? How can I bring the total PDF file size down to 10MB or less, so that I can email the file to her and she can print it? If I don't do this, it may affect our relationship! : ( Thanks in advance, Alvin * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *

FWIW I always try to compress my files before uploading. It may not help with the file size, but it will help with the file's integrity. Re: [CGUYS] french
I use foreign sets so infrequently that I prefer to just use SYSTEM TOOLS/Charactor Map to pick a letter. This would not be so good for someone who types french frequently. - Brian There are two ways you can insert or type foreign language characters or accents. I do it for German. Using ASCII codes you can type a code and get the character you want. My dad used to keep an ASCII chart next to his monitor to do this with German. In MS products (Office) and I assume WordPerfect (although it was done differently) and Open Office you use insert symbol and then use the chart to insert the symbol you want. Again I use this method when in Office to insert foreign language characters. It gets fun in Hebrew and Greek when you need to do this. On your Mac, open either in Graphic Converter or Preview, save as .tif to your desktop. If neither works, go to the source and ask what program produced the image. Re: [CGUYS] TIFF file won't open
It's not multi-page, & I don't think it's compressed. This is one of several thousand files we had to outsource for scanning, because we didn't have the time or resources to devote. So far, over 1,000 files (all tiffs) have opened with no problem. David Turk Manager, Preservation Imaging Services Indiana Historical Society Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center 450 W.
