It will be interesting to watch Google terrorize complacent telecom

This explains why Google quietly changed their position on net neutrality in

Probably not, it really doesn't make sense to be the traffic management
police when the bottom line is selling bandwidth.

Who are these complacent telecom providers?

 And what is their agenda?

Is there a connection with the Illuminati?

The Illuminati are not complacent.

Unfruitful sorbet? What flavor? Cassis?

My attitude in this is to continue creating ideas I assume will be
harvested eventually - often swiftly - by the unimaginative unwashed.
It's so easy.

I applaud David for asking.

We've always contacted creators when considering using their work for
our books. Most agree, some refuse, but at least they know about it, and
we follow their wishes.

However, music is different. While copying and sharing music is also
stealing, musicians and singers can still be compensated when they
perform. You can't perform a photo, illustration or painting so you have
fewer options for making a living with your art.

Copyrights and patents exist to encourage people to create new work, and
have their creations/inventions protected for a short time so they could
make a living while creating something else. Those protections are not
effective since the laws were changed, not to protect and encourage
invention, but to enrich distributors, corporations and heirs to the
detriment of the creators.

People sometimes don't respect the ownership of audio/video/arts because
often when you pay the distributors, the money doesn't trickle down to
the artists. That may not be so in this case, but the bad attitude remains.

Terry,

Thanks, but I know how to sort them in the individual folders. It is
when I switch back and forth between the folders that I have problems.
When you switch between folders in Seamonkey it takes you to the message
you were viewing when you left the folder. Windows Mail takes you to
the most recent message. I would like to go to the last message I was
viewing in Windows Mail.

Thank you

Re: [CGUYS] Can't print -- OS X Leopard

2009-03-13 Thread David K Watson

Have you checked to see if the firmware has been altered?
Security measures (including blocking USB ports) are often
implemented by making changes in the firmware, and this won't
be fixed by wiping the drive and reinstalling OS X. The problem
is, if the bank altered the firmware, they likely protected the
firmware with a password as well. A quick way to see if the
firmware is password protected is to start up the computer while
holding down the option key (this launches startup manager).
If you see an icon for your hard drive then there is not a firmware
password, but if you see a password box next to the image of a
lock, then the firmware has password protection and you will have
to disable it. I think restarting with a different amount of memory
will disable the firmware password and allow you to restore
the default settings.

If the firmware is password protected, you should definitely
circumvent the password and reset the firmware, and this
will likely fix your problem. You may want to consider resetting
or reinstalling the firmware in any case, just to eliminate the
possibility

that this is the source of your problems.

Re: [CGUYS] sxsw

2009-03-13 Thread rleesimon
it is a fast way to download as the file you get comes in multiple parts
simultaneously (torrents) and is assembled as it goes along ...in return for
that, your part is to let the file be simultaneously uploaded to others who
request it ...I do it sometimes ...there are stand alone torrent clients to
acomplish this, but I have chosen the lazy man way to this end as Opera
browser has the bittorrent client built in for free and, if active (there is
a toggle in the prefs), it works just like any download. Once the download
is done, it shows sharing in place of in progress and, if you close the
browser, it will resume the get but NOT resume the share. Very nice.

Torrent is a process for defeating the normal throttling (individual
bandwidth) of the Internet by downloading [large] files in several (more than
one) parallel streams, each individual stream being normally throttled, but the
resulting composite stream being Nx faster than a single stream. BitTorrent
(spelling?) is a particular implementation.

The thing you tried will not work if a font is in fact corrupt, and
reinstalling Office may not fix it either. To check for corrupt

the Validate Fonts selection under the File menu. Also, drag the
Fonts folder from the Office installation (located in the office folder

Re: [CGUYS] MS Office for Mac--Corrupt fonts

2009-03-13 Thread db
If you validate the fonts, what happens when you validate corrupt
fonts. They get repaired or identified as needing to be replaced?

The thing you tried will not work if a font is in fact corrupt, and
reinstalling Office may not fix it either. To check for corrupt
fonts, open the Font Book application, select all the fonts and use
the Validate Fonts selection under the File menu. Also, drag the
Fonts folder from the Office installation (located in the office folder
that is inside the Microsoft Office applications folder) onto the Font
Book window and validate those fonts as well. This is assuming
a proprietary font manager like Suitcase is not being used, in which
case, see what kind of options it has as well.

A co-worker, who is Mac-based, keeps getting a font is corrupt when
opening MS Word for Mac. I had him delete what I thought were the
right preferences, but no luck. His Excel hangs on opening, too.
Just delete the whole suite re-install? tia.

[CGUYS] Windows Media Player sound

2009-03-13 Thread Tourbus Rider Stuart Carlow
Sometimes when playing a .wmv file using Windows Media Player 11, I get no
sound at all (although if I play the same file using VLC media player the sound
works fine).? And sometimes I do get sound.? Any solutions to this puzzle so
that audio will always work?? Thanks in advance.

Re: [CGUYS] mac towers

2009-03-13 Thread b_s-wilk

I was looking through the apple store at the new mac towers. I was
wondering if anyone knows off hand if the motherboards on the bottom line
towers use the same motherboard as the top of the line tower?

They look the same. See for yourself:

http://www.apple.com/macpro/specs.html

I've opened Mac towers at Apple stores to look inside. They can run when
the door is removed. At the Delaware store it was OK. Why not try at
your local store [Phoenix?].

Any consistency as to the the files that do/don't play? Or does it
appear random? What platform are you using?

WMP 11 is pretty robust for .wav, but I've not tried it with .wmv.

If VLC works what advantage does WMP offer?

I thought it was the Gomorrah. (the video)

Inefficient. A waste of human capital based on a bad business
model. Looks like the Mexican drug wars.

But I guess that was your point?

If I'm not mistaken, google has brought this topic up before several years
ago.
