Sure, for portability and for short notes a virtual keyboard can suffice, but is still a substitute for the real thing. There are many devotees of the concept that any type of device that has been in use for over ten years should be trash-canned because even if it isn't really obsolete, it ought to be. Ever try using a virtual keyboard or a touch screen device in the vertical position for an extended period of time? Positioned horizontally, a touch screen keyboard will work better and will not result in the same arm fatigue pain, but having to look downward all the time to view your screen is a real neck killer for sure. So, what would the solution be for heavy use? Have a vertical display screen so you can see what is going on without having to lean over or tilt your head, but to have a keyboard, virtual or real, positioned horizontally just like we all use them now. So, if you would prefer a virtual keyboard over a real one in such a configuration, be my guest, but either way, the end result will be just about what we all do now and have gotten used to because it works. Why fix it if it ain't broke unless one just wants to spend money and time and effort on change for the pure sake of change? The QWERTY design is based on a layout designed by Christopher Latham Sholes in 1874 for the Sholes and Glidden typewriter ... Dang if it was good enough in 1874 it should be good enough today. I don't know why anyone would want to innovate. That is fine but don't tell me what I want. I know what I need!!! Plus Apple has already marginalized me by not going to the carrier I need in this area. [CGUYS] Apple drops OS X awards
Apple is dropping any software awards for their desktop and laptop computers. Since 1997, Apple has handed out awards for the best new software developed for all their various platforms at the annual World Wide Developers Conference. Apple is now discontinuing awards for all except their wireless mobile devices in yet another indicator that the corporation is slowly turning away from their loyal computer user base in order to focus mostly on music sales, iPods, iPhones and iPads, all of which many consider to be mostly desired for their entertainment value and attendant usage. It was just announced today the Sprint/Nextel will not support the Goggle Nexus One phone but will back a lesser model the HTC EVO that runs android software. So Googles marketing plan on a phone for networks may not work out well. But their software seems to be a big hit. Actually that 4g phone is better than the nexus in most every respect. The nexus was cutting edge for about ten minutes, then HTC started releasing better phones..the 4G, the incredible. Besides, even if Apple has decided to kill their line of computers, being as secretive as they are, would Mr. Jobs admit to such prior to the time that Apple Corp. had already decided to make such information available to the public? Also, when speaking about Apple possibly relegating their computer line to second tier status, I was merely mentioning what I have been reading on the internet from various observers of Macdom.
