The silver linings in this economic cloud have been few, seemingly

For instance: Software giant Microsoft laid off 1,400 workers last
month. Yesterday, the company acknowledged that -- oops! -- it actually
overpaid severance to some of those workers. The unemployed workers
found this out recently in a letter from Microsoft, which was sitting
on cash reserves of $8.5 billion last month and is demanding repayment
of the extra severance within 14 days.

A company that asks for an overpayment to be returned is an ass?

In any event, MS withdrew the demand. The workers can keep the money that
they didn't earn.

I don't think a damage-control u-turn accomplishes anything. I see them
once again exposed as the greedy, petty, connivers they are.

I think that if there is anyone sitting on undeserved $billions that
ought to be given back it is certainly MS. They got nailed on anti-trust,
but before we got justice, Bush-Cheney stepped in and annulled the
court's action. Just one of many back-room deals that got us into the
terrible predicament we are now in.

Yeah that antitrust case being resolved as it did brought us to the horrible
realization that Firefox is better and growing, that while not growing,
linux is still a contender...and that Apple's market share has increased and
their notebook sales are terribly good. What a crummy outcome. Boy Cheney
in that imaginary backroom deal thing really stuck it to us!

2009-02-28 Thread Rev. Stewart Marshall

Kind of reminds me of Uncle Sam.

A number of soldiers were injured or suffered some type of trauma to
cause their release from service. In some cases these soldiers had
been paid bonuses baseed on continued duty within the military.

However because they were dismissed early or retired, they are being
asked to pay back parts of the bonuses.

Similar circumstances in which they got overpaid for travel or similar stories.

This was stopped a little while ago, but you can imagine the hurt and
the sore feelings it caused these soldiers.

It seems the bigger you are the easier it is to act like an ass.

Stewart

Just imagine how good things would be. We would all have great, fast
browsers. People could write Web sites without wasting their time on
countless IE hacks so web site would be even better. Open source would be
even stronger with better applications. Well made computers would have
sold even better so creative companies could have developed even greater
things. TomTom would not be getting sued for using Linux. Etc. Etc.
