This sounds good and thanks to all who responded. I have passed this info along to the requester who will be getting the MacBook next week. Step 1 : Install the Mac version of Microsoft Office on the new Mac laptop Step 2 : Move the files from one machine to the other with a USB memory stick or external drive Step 3 : Open the Office for windows files Is it really that easy ? Well ' mostly '. There are some power user differences in features between the Mac & Windows versions of Word & Excel. One big issue in my application is that the Visual Basic add on for the Mac version is severely crippled as compared to the windows version. It impacts one engineering spreadsheet I rely on for critical information. For that and a few other engineering applications I have a Windows install on my Macs. I have NEVER encountered it on any other .xls document. Occasionally I will get a Word document that doesn't display a government form quite right - in much the same way that different releases of Word for windows will not get things right from docs created in newer versions. There is a program made specifically for exporting email and addresses from Outlook into Mac Mail ( I still consider Eudora a better email program for business use but it's an eventual dead end regardless of the computer in use ). The big question is always what programs are crucial to the user. Bottom line is that it's quite easy now to install and run Windows on a current Mac for those things that will not work any other way while using the Mac operating system for the other 95% of general computer uses.
