Re: [CGUYS] Podcast neophyte questions.
If you want to capture podcasts to your machine to transfer to an MP3 player you need podcast client software. There is a list of lots of them here http://www.podcastingnews.com/topics/Podcast_Software.html, I use iTunes because it is easy and I have an iPod. You can find podcasts listed in the iTunes store. Most are free, Studio 360 is free if you download them right away but you have to pay a small fee to audible or iTunes for the archives. Some of this is the old walled garden that some shows were behind prior to podcasting for free and some of it is an easy way to get support for shows. I paid Audible four credits for a year subscription to Says You. Other shows are all free. I think they have three years worth of the Splendid Table on their site for free. Podcasting is best for things that are really niche interests. My wife is a knitter and there dozens of knitting related podcasts of which she really likes a few. I listen/watch to the techie stuff from TWIT.TV, Geek Brief TV, and WebbTV. I also watch funny stuff like Ask A Ninja and Tiki Bar. Some sites put up players so that you can stream the show on your computer without actually downloading. If you like the show you can subscribe or just listen that way. I don't care for streaming but it works well enough to sample something. The Studio 360 podcast site (http://feeds.wnyc.org/studio360/podcast) gives links to 8 different podcatchers one of which is iTunes plus the capability of others. Windows compatible application total recorder will save whatever is sent to your speakers ...check it out ...there's a trial copy ...works great and will function when you shut off your speakers as long as the site is sending the sound to your card... -Original Message- From: Stephen Meskin [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, February 23, 2008 11:32 PM Subject: Podcast neophyte questions. Re: [CGUYS] Podcast neophyte questions.
For Studio 360: at the top or bottom of this page: http://www.studio360.org/podcast.html click on Show Archives. You'll get this page: http://www.studio360.org/episodes/2008 I clicked on the Tesla show there, and then on download mp3 and started a download. Also on the archives page, you can click on 2007 and get all those shows the same way. The same is true for 2006. I noticed the reference to Audible for 2001, so you can check the other years. I hope this helps Jordan Stephen Meskin wrote: I have just investigated the podcast site for one program I really like, Studio 360. Re: [CGUYS] Podcast neophyte questions.
Widgets are those little programs that run on windows/linux or mac os x desktops...apple calls em gadgets i think. Looks like spring widgets put them in your browser so with that address you can embed PRI info on your own web page using their link. The xml feed is the rss feed to the web page for when info changes you can get it in an rss feed. RSS feeds are kinda like the old idea of push email. You subscribe to a feed via a web address, usually an XML feed but there are others and at intervals you set on your reader it goes to the address to check for changes, then downloads and displays the new feed in your reader. A podcast is an RSS feed with an enclosure, the enclosure being the audio that comes with it, almost as an attachment.
