[Callers] Mailman upgrade and bounce notifications #Admin

Hello SharedWeight community,

I am the system administrator for sharedweight.net.  Today, I upgraded the 
Mailman3 software that runs the lists.  One of the new features in this version 
is automatic bounce processing.  That means that if your email bounces a 
message back to the server enough times, your subscription will automatically 
be disabled.  Unfortunately, it started counting bounces from a long time ago, 
instead of starting with a clean slate.  Some of you may have received a notice 
that says your mailing list subscription has been disabled.  I have re-enabled 
all subscriptions that were disabled today because of bounces.

I'm hoping that today's upgrade also fixes the garbage characters that some of 
you see in your digests.

Please let me know if you find any problems.

Hi Bev and everyone,

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with this as well.  (I was hoping it was 
a smaller problem than it's appearing to be.)  It's a known bug in this version 
of Mailman, and I need to upgrade.  Once school starts (Aug 30), it will be on 
my list of things to do.

One thing we can try is to switch you from "plain digests" to "mime digests" 
(no mimes will be hurt!).  Or you could switch to regular emails.  Head here:

I’m sorry for the short notice, but I need to move the mailing lists to a 
different host this evening.  There will be some down time between now and 10pm 
EST.  No messages will be lost, though there may be duplicates in the digests.

I’ll send another email once the move is complete.

Nitty gritty details:  AWS hosting looked like the right option, but their 
pricing structure is not clear.  Turns out to cost nearly 2x what I had 
expected.  I am moving us (back) to Linode, where we should have stayed all 
along.  Better service, clear pricing, good support.

[Callers] Digests

Hello everyone,

I believe I have gotten the digest mode fixed - they should now be coming out 
daily if there are any pending messages to send out.  (Digest emails get sent 
out when the queue gets “full”, or daily around midnight EST if the queue is 
not full.)  

I’m still working on the formatting of the digest modes.

[Callers] List name change

Hi Shared Weight callers,

As part of the Shared Weight renewal that happening this fall, we are renaming 
the callers list.  Instead of call...@lists.sharedweight.net it will be 
contracallers@lists.sharedweight.net. The change is due to the fact that Shared 
Weight will now be hosting three separate lists for callers and so we want to 
have a bit more definition in the names.  (The other two lists exist but are 
now becoming part of Shared Weight.)

Here is a bit of information about the other two caller lists:
---> Alan Winston's English country dance list focuses primarily on 
conversations for ECD callers although musicians and organizers do chime in.
---> Ridge Kennedy's Trad callers list is will be serving callers interested in 
community dances, dancing for children, one-night stands, traditional squares, 
and other forms outside of the contra and ECD realm.

Of course, there's always going to be a bit of overlap between lists so feel 
free to raise the odd non-contra question on contracallers.

Note: call...@sharedweight.net will forward to contracall...@sharedweight.net 
so if you happen to forget and send to the old address, your post will go 
through with no problem.
