The pgcc versions based on gcc 2.95.x are all very unstable (one of the few things pgcc is still supposed to do better than gcc is mmx optimization, but I haven#t seen anything that actually compiles with -mmx). [Cooker] pgcc or gcc
Hi, Whats the difference between pgcc and straight gcc, except for Pentium optimizations? My 6.1 has got pgcc and no gcc and now I see cooker's only got gcc's? -- ~~ Alwyn Schoeman Systems Engineer Prism Secure Solutions
[Cooker] Replacement for fmirror
Anyone give me a replacement for fmirror, it really really sucks. Wget is a lot better, but it doesn't handle exclusions that well. I need something that is very flexible in this regard. -- ~~ Alwyn Schoeman Systems Engineer Prism Secure Solutions

First I got caught up in download hell. Each package I downloaded required another package to be installed before hand. Half way through the installs I had to use the --nodeps flag to get one of the packages to install. The very next one seg faulted. I tested out gcc afterwards to see if it still worked. Nope, it had died a horrible death. My attempt to erase what I had installed and reinstall the originals failed. I ended up having to pull out my backup... Jeff

[Cooker] Question for Axalon... Bero?
I have a simple question... is it safe to replace libstdc++ in helios I guess is 2.9.0-3mdk with libstdc++-2.95.2-1mdk ? and libstdc++-compat-2.95.2-1mdk I need to install it (upgrade it) in order to install several other applications, such as qt2.01, licq0.70-1 caitoo etc... [Cooker] Solved problem with xfmail
Xfamail want xforms .88.1 precompiled. If you compile it with xforms .89 ... reports that "must have working mmap". :-))) Bah ! Alessandro
[Cooker] Linuxconf
I have a very strange problem with linuxconf. ( read some message with same problem on dejanews ) The lilo menu does not work! When I try to modify something ( e.g. new kernel compiled ) linuxconf reports that /dev/hda1 is not valid linux partition. Lilo works and I does not have any boot problem. The very strange thing is that linuxconf sometime worked ( don't remember with wich installation ) and my partiton is unchanged from months. My HD is 13 GB Maxtor (EIDE) : 1st partition 2 Gb with linux ext2 2nd partition 4 Gb with Windows fat32 3rd and 4th partition with linux ext2 Bye Alessandro
[Cooker] kde sound
Hello, someone can tell me something more about kde sound? I have one SB Live, but due to Creative policy I buyed a SB128 PCI that works. Also have a Yamaha PCI ( same problem as SBLive ) and Vortex1 based card. Using kernel modules or alsa modules added to kernel sources the soundcard works with all external utilities but not in kde. (SB 128 ) Some help? Bye Alessandro P.S. What do you think about alsa drivers, libs and utilities added in Mandrake cooker?
[Cooker] kvirc 0.90 security hole
8.09.99 : KVIrc vulnerable Today a frend of mine forwarded me a mail from the bugtraq mailing list. Seems that KVIrc 0.9.0 has a security hole: a "malicious user" can cause KVIrc to dcc send him the /etc/passwd file. Obviously he can't do it without being seen/logged. Anyway , if you are still using 0.9.0 you have three solutions: 1. Disable the "Listen to !nick requests" in the "Sound" tab of the Misc options dialog. 2. Upgrade to 1.0.0 beta1 or beta2. 3. Get the latest KVIrc sources by CVS. 25.10.99 : 0.9.0 -> 0.9.1 I have released a patched 0.9.0 version of kvirc for those that still use qt1.44. It is patched against the infamous sound related security hole :) The package version is 0.9.1. Jump to the download page http://www.kvirc.org/download.html to get it. Sergio Korlowsky
[Cooker] netscape
I'm very stupid... no, bad memory. I think that this is the age :-))) Where I have to put the netscape file downloaded from ftp? I have not found the old one. Second question. If someone can tell me wich file must be modified for making netscape in italian I can do the job the writing is that, but read very well :-)) Bye Alessandro
[Cooker] Questions...
This is a joke :-)) I already have ORBit 5.1 updated, and entire gnome 1.0.53, GCC 2.96.x snapshot ( very fast ) and pgcc 2.95.2 ... I need a working nationalized installation :-) Someone can help me in making rpm from compiled packages that not have .spec files? I try many compiler options and install the files only after a perfect compilation ( just some warnings ) but don't know how rpm files can be done. ( I want make a CD installation with .i686 compiled package for restore my Mandrake cooker compiled on my system but sometimes the spec file is not included. ) When I try to compile something that cannot be compiled use rpm -ivh --force gcc and glibc for make the system clean. This make my system like a fresh install or not? Someone can tell me something about mmap? The xfmail mantainer said that use Mandrake 6.1 and never had problems with mmap Bye Alessandro

I think not, many people have compiled it. Also on my system ( pre-disaster :-)) ) I have compiled xfmail. This error is not new, but the latest time I have recompiled glibc from original source and not from src.rpm ... after mmap worked. xfmail is the best e-mail software for X but at the moment is based on xforms. The team works on gtk and qt migration. When this is done I suggest to add xfmail to Mandrake distribution. > Nothing more than: must have working mmap. > How I can check mmap? > > > libmikmod 3.1.8 is out. Can't undertand why I get this error, gcc-2.95x incompatibility? On libmikmod site there are precompiled .rpm and debian packages, this mean that the source must work. Thanks Alessandro

[Cooker] Drakx installation & others
(1) Hello, I have tested the english install with italian keyboard and works fine!!! I does not have tryied other nationalized installation but ... How I can fix this locally? (2) How I can set locale to "it" without "profile" and "bashrc"? This files does not contains LANG, LOCALE and other related specs... or the english is the default and need nothing? (3) Since I have lost my msgbase cannot read an old message about kernel 2.3.21 compile. Now I have kernel 2.3.24 and need the string to add for getting standard kernel compiled on cooker. Is possible to have some explanation on why the standard sources cannot be compiled on cooker when using Mandrake 6.1 I can? (4) How I can test if mmap works? xfmail cannot be compiled... reports that need a working mmap (5) libmikmod 3.1.8 is out. The src.rpm and the std source cannot be compiled due an error like this: need space after number (1) (or something like this ) Many thanks Alessandro
