That, IMHO is horse-pucky. IIRC, when it was introduced, it was explained that decimal packages were for packages that did not have an official release number. Decimal releases were for snapshots and cvs downloads, The whole "1mdk looks better in a release" is a big fat red herring IMHO. The number of releases a package has had does not matter. (a bit like the rpm package now.) It is my understanding that 3.0.4 "proper" of RPM has not been released which is why we are using decimal releases. Is that not the case? b. -- Brian J. from the quill of geoffrey lee [EMAIL PROTECTED] on scroll [EMAIL PROTECTED] It is my understanding that 3.0.4 "proper" of RPM has not been released which is why we are using decimal releases. Is that not the case? no, 3.0.4 is all well and final. :) Then IMHO it should not be on decimal releases either then. If rpm.org make _any_ change and cut a new tarball they will update the version number at which time so should Mandrake and then cycle the release back to 1mdk. Having a goal of every package being at 1mdk when the next Linux Mandrake release goes out is just silly, IMHO. Think of it in terms of all of the "Cookers" out there. We will all have to update *every* single package on our cooker boxes needlessly (for nothing more than release stamping) just so that our cooker boxes lineup with the final release. Silly. i'm not sure, either i'm wrong or rpm.org html is out of date ...but you know you can find rpm 3.0.4 in the distrib (forgot the absolute name) ftp directory. Then why are we decimal releasing it? alpha software wouldn't go there ... Agreed. See my previous question then. b. -- Brian J. Murrell InterLinx Support Services, Inc. And frankly, I have done all of that, and nothing still works. That is the biggest problem here. I know it worked under Mandrake 6.1 but not under Mandrake 7.0.
