2000-07-16 Thread T Korte

You should put the word "sparc" somewhere in your subject line. That way it's
got a better chance of being read by the right people. A lot of mail goes
through here and I usually only read the ones that my filter picks as having
that in the subject. Otherwise there's just too many and most of them are
related to a different Cooker version (the next x86 release).
All the same, I have found that the sparc related problems still get responses
most times and the port continues to improve - no thanks to Sun. I have stuck
with it and am glad that I have. Solaris 7 is no longer on the machine and the
CD's sit in their box.

I had the same problem with my Ultra 1 Creator and LM 7.0b for the Ultrasparc.
I have since downloaded 7.1b and that problem was fixed - it found the CDROM
just fine and happily went through the install with few problems. Keep in mind
that this is beta software so you have to expect the occasional glitch.

You may have to reprogram your eprom to get the 64 bit thing happening. That's
what I had to do and it involved moving a jumper, running the program, and then
resetting the jumper. The jumper was for write protection so if it's done once
then that should be it for the problem. If your machine has the 64 bit
capability already then as I recall I had to change a setting in a file
somewhere to get the OS to go to 64 bit.

See the "Solaris 7 Sun Hardware Platform Guide"

[Cooker] sounddrake

Why is it that I can not use sounddrake with the latest Mandrake 7.1 to
configure my Yamaha OPL3sax card in the Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop?
I can use these modules from the sndconfig but it stops working after a

Where do I get updates for sounddrake that will allow me to configure this
properly?

Re: [Cooker] Re: Mesa / XFree 4attn: Guillaume Cottenceau

2000-07-16 Thread Peter Ruskin

At last - a Cooker kernel patched for agpgart!

For all you cookers out there with Matrox AGP cards, this is what I would
do:
1. Uninstall all your cooker Mesa rpms, except the demos (the latest ones
require glide, which is no use for a Matrox owner)
2. Point your browser at http://utah-glx.sourceforge.net and download
glxMesa-2328-1.i586.rpm and the gart module README
3. Get kernel-source-2.2.17-0.9mdk.i586.rpm from Cooker, together with
 -headers, -doc and -utils
4. Use XFree86-3.3.6-16mdk.i586.rpm - 4.0 is no use
5. Install glxMesa
4. Build kernel, enabling AGP support with the appropriate chipset under
"Character devices"
5. `mknod /dev/agpgart c 10 175` to make /dev/agpgart
6. Add this to /etc/rc.d/rc.local, to load agpgart at start-up:
# load 3DFX module
action "Loading AGPGART module" insmod agpgart
7. Add this to your XF86Config:
Section "Module"
# This loads the 3DFX module
   Load "glx.so"
EndSection
8. Reboot, with fingers crossed.

I did this and most of the Mesa demos work (200+ frames per second with
gears) - see attached GLtest. I don't do Quake, but it's reported to work.

I looked into it, and I've actually used it before... =) I set it up
on my dad's firewall to forward to qmail and apache and proftpd on a
secondary linux server so I know it works... =)

Wierd... considering it's working for ftp/smtp/pop3/http, maybe it's
a configuration issue? Or something wierd with icq.

Compiles fine, installs fine except for a few uid/gid issues... once
those are resolved, I think it'll be ready for prime time. This is
how I'm doing it:

qmail package installs without any patches, as per the license.

A qmail-source package installs the source and patches and a script
that will apply all patches and compile. I'll have to figure out the
dependencies and whatnot still, but so far so good... the compile
script is half done... gimme a few more days and it'll all be ready
to play with.

Re: [Cooker] MS Intellimouse is Drunk!

2000-07-16 Thread Allen Bolderoff

This usually happens to me when I switch between a virtual console, and X
windows (ie go from X to console and back again).

I don't know why, but believe it to be something to do with gpm.

I find if I spin the mouse wheel, it gives me back the cursor.

I do not have any other solution
