[Cooker] PHP4 and MySQL option
The PHP4 that is part of cooker currently does NOT have the MySQL option set properly - hence when trying to enable it for apache with MySQL (like for PHPNuke) it does not work. There are alternate PHP4 RPMs for proper installation - unfortunately they do not work with the apache that is part of Mandrake 7.1 (so much about RH compatibility). Maybe some way can be found to adapte these, or to provide proper MySQL support. Just a thought. Harry

[Cooker] Acer Aspire USB support
7.2B3 installed on an Acer Aspire doesn't recognize the Acer USB devices, and so loses the USB keyboard and mouse. The mouse has never worked in 7.1, but the keyboard worked in the old mode. [Cooker] Cooker install problems
Ok, this weekend I purchased a shiny new SCSI hard drive, and tried installing Cooker on it, with some mixed success. Note these are more bug reports than support requests -- I've surmounted most of the problems already. I'm always willing to learn if I've missed something, though. ;) First of all, the Mandrake install always fails at mounting the root partition (errmsg: "mount failed: No Such file or dir at /usr/bin/perl-install/fs.pm line 218") if a language other than US English (or at least of the ones I tried) is selected at the beginning. I tested UK English, Canadian French and Japanese (why not?). Secondly, the default 2.2.17-22mdk kernel installed by the current Cooker (FTP installed from ftp.ciril.fr) doesn't seem to include reiserfs support, or something else is wrong with it. After an unremarkable installation, the system reboots, and the kernel panics when it tries to mount the (reiserfs-formatted) root fs. Any ideas? Thirdly, and this is prehaps not related at all to Mandrake, neither Grub nor Lilo seem happy trying to load off my SCSI hard drive. I was only able to make it work by booting stage1 from the IDE drive, and stage2 from the SCSI drive. Go figure. If anyone has encountered something similar before, I'd like to hear from you, but I won't go into more detail as it's not really Mandrake-related. -- Graeme Lennon -=- [EMAIL PROTECTED] -=- Montreal, Canada ... deadening the flow of relentless biography ...

Re: [Cooker] install from hd doesn't work
>> The image should be about 1.3GB you must have missed a bunch of rpms My download was the wrong size, because I downloaded the cooker dir instead of the 7.beta dir. (Q:what is the 450MB cooker dir used for then?) After downloading the correct files, I tried an install from hd. No mounting problems anymore! There were some other problems though: - tiny bug: when selecting the percentage of packages that you want to install, you can select 101% if you use the + and - next to the percentage. the + and - below the percentage are OK. - Shouldn't there be an option to install everything (all packages)? - my 3COM 3c900B-TPO ethernet card was correctly identified, but after selecting NO to the question if I have more network cards, the 3COM is recognised again! After selecting NO this time everything goes OK. The card did install OK, because I could reach the internet from the desktop. - Perhaps the differences between LILO and Grub can be pointed out on the bootloader-screen (I don't know them, I always use LILO). - My Microsoft Keyboard Pro is not recognised according to DrakConf even though it seems to work fine. The only problem is that on booting and shutting down, I get the error that there are too many KNACKS in the cable? When I use the PS/2 plug instead of the USB plug, I do not get this error. - When I enter the desktop the first time after install, my soundcard (SB 1024 Live!) is not working. Configuring in DrakConf results in an error as well as configuring in sndconfig. But when I boot the second time (or any time after that) sound is working fine! After adding in the "+notify" even the KDE-sounds worked. - I have two CDROM-drives in my machine: - Creative 52X (CD5230E) (IDE) - Plexwriter 8/4/32A (IDE) The Creative drive is working fine. The Plextor is working OK, but it is not configured properly. In DrakConf it appears twice, once as an IDE with an unidentified vendor and once as a SCSI (which I don't have in my machine) with the vender Plextor. - A big problem is that when I reboot from linux (Reboot-command in XWindows), LILO loads, but when I select linux I get a CRC-error and my machine comes to a full stop. When I do a cold reboot then, linux loads fine again...until I do a reboot. Manuel

Re: [Cooker] Mandrake 7.2 RC1
Just some comments, not asking for help. I have tried the Ulysses 7.3 beta and Odyssey 7.3 beta on my desk top and Compaq Pressario laptop. Downloaded the ISO files for both and burned installation CD's. Ulysses set up sound on both machines, great to listen to cd's on Linux for a change. I have not gotten Odyssey to set up sound yet. Odyssey will not set up my display above 800*600 resolution on the desktop, Ulysses would. My monitor and sound card are listed on both (Trident Cyberblade and Dell 1028L). I have tried other combinations from the choices on XFree setup, no other combination works above 800*600. The display on the Compaq would only work if installed as expert with SVGA as video card, but looks great at 1024*whatever. The XFree 4.01 can only be installed if you chose expert installation on anything. Lucent has a driver/patch that let the winmodem on the Compaq work with Mandrake 7.0. To use the modem with Mandrake 7.1 I had to keep the kernel 2.2.14 kppp setup. I cannot make this work with 7.2. The modem in 7.2 with the Lucent patch responds to query commands and dials out but dies on connection, just like Mandrake 7.1. I would have stayed with Ulysses but it bugged out when installing RPM's. Lance Jones

Perhaps who misunderstand how formating works. Your *primary* partitions will be in hda1, hda2, hda3, hda4. *Logical* partitions start from hda5 and onwards. Most likely you first partition is primary partition 1 (hda1), and your second partition is an *extended* partition. Within the extended partition, your *logical* partitions will start from hda5, and so on... Thanks... Dan.
[Cooker] 7.1 Install chokes with NTFS partitions
OK, I know this is cooker for > 7.1 but this problem is probably here too. This has been repeated several times. The results of each install is (basically) the same. When performing a custom install on a blank IDE(ATA/33) drive for a system that already has (also) a SCSI drive formatted with Fat32 and NTFS5(Win2k) partitions, the Drakx installer improperly numbers the partitions. It assigns sda1, sda5, sda6, sda7, sda8 and sda9 to the 6 partions on the SCSI drive. It skips minor(?) numbers 2, 3 and 4. Note that there are 3 NTFS5 partitons on the drive but they are not consecutive. The SCSI drive is set up, in order, as : fat32, ntfs5, fat32, ntfs5, ntfs5, fat32. Furthermore, (the real problem) when partitioning and formatting the blank IDE drive, Drakx assigns the partitions without using the minor numbers 2, 3, and 4; i.e., the first partition gets assigned as hda1 but the second is hda5, third is hda6, fourth is hda7, and so forth. Should I say this causes all kinds of access and mounting problems? I cannot check cooker or 7.2 at this time but I did query the Bugzilla database. I found no reference to this and therefore concluded that it still exists. Need any files? More info? Have A Great Day! Regards, Ric .lll .°¿° . ~ _ Tired of limited space on Yahoo and Hotmail? Ron Stodden wrote in the mailing-list that this was fixed in the current sunsite-download. [Cooker] Shutting down RAID devices --> FAILED! Device or resource is busy...
Hi again people! Well, even if I've been able making RAID devices with 7.2-RC(1), I have the same error that I had Mandrake 7.0 but that was resolved in Mdk-7.1: Shutting down RAID devices Unmounting / filesystem > FAILED (device is busy) In 7.0, I simply had to delete the lines "stopping RAID" in the scrip /etc/rc.d/init.d/halt... Maybe you could prepare a "initscript" package that will be ok for 7.2!?! ;) Claudio
