[Cooker] nfs problem

2001-07-01 Thread Guillaume Rousse

On my server, i have those two partitions using reiserfs on a Mandrake 8.0:
/dev/hda8 mounted as /var/ftp
/dev/hdc1 mounted as /var/ftp/pub/linux/distributions
On the server side, everything is OK.
I also export /var/ftp/pub by NFS, but on the client side,
durruti:/var/ftp/pub/linux/distributions appears empty...
Is this a known issue with reiserfs/nfs/multiple partitions ? Is there a
workaround ?

Try subtracting 4 megs from your total ram, many MB's use shared memory
for the video card. eg. 'linux mem=60M' at the lilo prompt

[Cooker] HighPoint RAID controller and IDE order

2001-07-01 Thread Kees de Bruin

Hi,

I've recently installed MandrakeFreq on my new system that has an onboard
HighPoint RAID controller, but to be on the safe side I installed with the
IDE drive connected to the standard IDE controller.

Is it possible to switch the drives to the RAID controller, because the
info tells me that these are IDE2/3. If possible, what should I use in the
lilo.conf and fstab files for root instead of /dev/hda?

Kind regards,

Re: [Cooker] rpmdrake still has Segmentation fault

2001-07-01 Thread Sean

Try and compile it with kgcc/egcs. Just change the symlinks for gcc and g++ to
kgcc and kg++ and you should be able to compile rpmdrake. In fact, most
programs perform better or are more stable when compiled with egcs, the kernel
is the best example.
In my case I got rpmdrake compiled and it still crashes. So now I just don't
use it. It amazes me that no one at Mandrake can figure this one out, even
with all of the information that we have. I have tried every proposed
solution, including recompiling everything separately to no avail. I think it
has something to do with a corrupt file in the /var/lib directory, probably
/var/lib/Packages. I always get an I/O error when running an strace on the
self compiled or the rpm version of rpmdrake at /var/lib/Packages.

I tried using tcsh and csh as the shell and it still causes the crash. Maybe
uninstalling perl and then reinstalling it by compiling would work, but then
most rpm's will fail to install because of the dependencies. Rpm creates a
hole that is tough to get out of.

If anyone has any more ideas then please help. Rpmdrake was a really cool and
easy program to use but I sure as hell not going to risk reinstallation just to
get it back. That is the windoze way of fixing things.

Some time ago there was a problem with bash, assume that one of the patches

  libglib1.2 is the stable version
libglib2 was the name for the development version until 1.3.6
libglib1.3_6 is the name for the development version since 1.3.6, to
respect to MandrakeSoft lib policy, which allows anyone
to install different versions of the same library at a
time, thus allowing to install new versions of a lib

[Cooker] My PCMCIA modem seems pretty strange at the moment

2001-07-01 Thread OS

Hello,

After my laptop has been in standby (ahh, I remember those long lost days
when I could put the laptop into save to disk mode, but I digress) the
PCMCIA modem behaves very strangely. I have to remove it and then relace it
until it beeps not twice but three times. Only then will it dial. If I don't
do this kppp gets as far as saying 'dialing' but it doesn't actually do it.
For a long time with the 2.4 kernel it took a long time before the modem was
really activated so dialling could commence. I.e. about 30 seconds after the
laptop was woken up the second modem beep would be heard. Then dialling could
commence. This may well be a related problem, except now you have to remove
the modem, and make it beep three times !

[Cooker] Printing from Netscape and Mozilla

2001-07-01 Thread guran

Hi

VERSION (rsync ftp.sunet.se)
Mandrake Linux Cooker-i586 20010630 16:16

I started a printing job from within Netscape and left it at that - when
I returned the tray was empty. I could not get the printer to resume its
job so I tried to get Netscape to print from a certain number - no way.

Well, no problem I know that Mozilla can do that - but to my fine anger
the Mozilla devil had assumed that my screen fonts, 15, should be used
when printing. Fine now I can read those fine papers from three meters
distance.

The interesting thing is that Mozilla got the fonts from Netscape,

Bye the way, the KUPS printing routine in the window has the command to
lp should be lpr.

[Cooker] Internet connection shareing + 3 eth cards

2001-07-01 Thread S N

I'm not sure if this should go in the bugtracker as a
wish or how I should go about sending it in.

My only other problem other than the low ram ftp
issue is trying to run Internet Connection Sharing
with more than 2 cards. This should defiantly be an
option. I would like to have interent in on eth0.
Internet out on eth1, and eth2. (Basicly 3 cards mabey
more) I was speaking with one of the UNIX guys at work
and he said it was probably possible although he had
never done it before. The trick was changing the
routing tables so that both internet out cards (eth1,
and eth2) were on different networks but both were
receiving interent from the same source.

Is this a possibility for the next release of
mandrake?
