[Cooker] nfs problem
On my server, i have those two partitions using reiserfs on a Mandrake 8.0: /dev/hda8 mounted as /var/ftp /dev/hdc1 mounted as /var/ftp/pub/linux/distributions On the server side, everything is OK. I also export /var/ftp/pub by NFS, but on the client side, durruti:/var/ftp/pub/linux/distributions appears empty... Is this a known issue with reiserfs/nfs/multiple partitions ? Is there a workaround ? -- Guillaume Rousse <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> GPG keys http://www.univ-reunion.fr/~grousse/gpgkeys.html

[Cooker] HighPoint RAID controller and IDE order
Hi, I've recently installed MandrakeFreq on my new system that has an onboard HighPoint RAID controller, but to be on the safe side I installed with the IDE drive connected to the standard IDE controller. Is it possible to switch the drives to the RAID controller, because the info tells me that these are IDE2/3. Re: [Cooker] rpmdrake still has Segmentation fault
Try and compile it with kgcc/egcs. Just change the symlinks for gcc and g++ to kgcc and kg++ and you should be able to compile rpmdrake. In fact, most programs perform better or are more stable when compiled with egcs, the kernel is the best example. In my case I got rpmdrake compiled and it still crashes. So now I just don't use it. It amazes me that no one at Mandrake can figure this one out, even with all of the information that we have. I have tried every proposed solution, including recompiling everything separately to no avail. I think it has something to do with a corrupt file in the /var/lib directory, probably /var/lib/Packages. I always get an I/O error when running an strace on the self compiled or the rpm version of rpmdrake at /var/lib/Packages. I tried using tcsh and csh as the shell and it still causes the crash. Maybe uninstalling perl and then reinstalling it by compiling would work, but then most rpm's will fail to install because of the dependencies. Rpm creates a hole that is tough to get out of. If anyone has any more ideas then please help. Rpmdrake was a really cool and easy program to use but I sure as hell not going to risk reinstallation just to get it back. That is the windoze way of fixing things. [Cooker] My PCMCIA modem seems pretty strange at the moment
Hello, After my laptop has been in standby (ahh, I remember those long lost days when I could put the laptop into save to disk mode, but I digress) the PCMCIA modem behaves very strangely. I have to remove it and then relace it until it beeps not twice but three times. Only then will it dial. If I don't do this kppp gets as far as saying 'dialing' but it doesn't actually do it. For a long time with the 2.4 kernel it took a long time before the modem was really activated so dialling could commence. I.e. about 30 seconds after the laptop was woken up the second modem beep would be heard. Then dialling could commence. This may well be a related problem, except now you have to remove the modem, and make it beep three times ! Owen
