[Cooker] National Semiconductor Compatibility

2001-11-09 Thread Sean Bybee

Does anyone know if Manrake amd/or SNF will work with National Semiconductor
processors, chipsets, and graphics? Specifically the Geode GX1 processor,
NS CS5530A chipset, and NS GX1/CS5530A 2D graphics accelerator.

 Try running oaf-slay ..

Try this :
-run killev
-open a terminal and start evolution-addressbook
-open another terminal and run evolution

Check error message in evolution-addressbook terminal..

I highly suggest that you post bug report in bugzilla.ximian.com and/or
#evolution on irc.gnome.org

Would it be possible as an option or kernel parameter to pass these lines

beurk, would be nice if we could have a neat solution working everywhere.
the pb here is serial_probe.

does redhat have the same pb? does it also fails after install? does it freeze
the box?

thanks, Pixel.

Thanks for the response Stew... while I await for my CD's I have a
 few more questions...

 Q. Does 8.0 support Reiser FS? If so will I be able to choose it
during install.. All my 8.1 install on i86 are on Reiser FS and am more
familiar with the journalized FS because of my days with Veritas on Sun
and Solaris platforms... I am also hoping that Mandrakesoft would have
better support and more releases on Sun platforms. I currently have
 SuSe on my Sun platforms.

It is supported with the 2.4 kernel, but not in the setup in 8.0. The new
version in development does support Reiser, XFS, ext3 and JFS.

Q, Since I have YDL loaded right now on my Wallstreet, can I use the
BootX I have installed on 9,2.1 from YDL and replace YDL's ramdisk with
M8.0 all.gz and install that way also copying vmlinux from the M8.0
boot directory onto 9.2.1 to boot off from once install is done?

Yes and no - use our all.gz and kernel for the install. There are other
kernels and initrd images:

initrd-2.2.19-14mdk.img vmlinuz-2.2.19-14mdk
initrd-2.4.4-6.2mdk.img vmlinuz-2.4.4-6.2mdk

in misc/BootX-kernels, you should use the boot the running system.

 Q. Is all.gz and all-2.2.gz both 2.2 kernel based? Is vmlinux and
vmlinux-2.2 both based on 2.2 kernel? If so, where can I get 2.4 kernel
 and support?

No 2.2 is 2.2.19 based, the plain ones are 2.4.4 based

 Q. Do you know what video options I have to give for the Wallstreet? I
didn't give BootX any when I installed YDL2.0..

Don't know off the top of my head. The installer uses Xpmac for the
graphical install. Initially I would try it as you have it set, second
try novideo.

TIA, hope you don't get tired answering my querries

No problem - welcome aboard. ;^)

  Stew,

Thanks for the speedy response... I just ordered 8.0 from the Mandrake
site. I have downloaded the 2 cd's a couple of weeks ago. I feel the
$20.00 goes to further development of future Mandrake releases for PPC
platform. I have just upgraded 8.1 on all of my i86 based platforms
(Compaq Dell notebooks / HP Dell Workstations).

Thanks - hope to keep Mandrake PPC going.

  Q. What wireless cards are supported by 8.0? Is the cisco aironet or
Orinoco wavelan supported? I have both and they work on MACOS9.2.1..
Have yet to make them work on OS X I run most my systems at home
  wireless

  Q. Where can I find documentation for installing 8.0 on my Wallstreet
(old world rom)?... I believe I need to boot and install using BootX.

I think there is a little on BootX in the included doc I did on the CD
image. Essentially you need a kernel from /boot annd all.gz as a
  ramdisk,
and then try using the options you'll see in yaboot.conf in /boot.

32000 for ramdisk size and whatever video options may be appropriate. I
haven't heard from anyone on here with a Wallstreet.

I currently triple boot off my Wallstreet... MACOS 9.2.1, OS X and YDL
2.0 (BootX installed on 9.2.1 to boot YDL2.0) Although I also
bought YDL2.0 release, I haven't had much luck at YDL 2.0 support and
since I am more familiar with Mandrake... I would like to move and
migrate towards this release instead of upgrading to YDL 2.1...

  Q. Will I be able to install over my YDL 2.0 partition (hda13) without
  jeopardizing my 9.21 (hda10) and X(hda9) installs?

You should be able to. Most folks have installed fine with various
  flavors
of MacOS on the machine, myself included. That's not to say there
  hasn't
been anyone that hasn't had a problem. LinuxPPC onthe drive seems to
  give
the most problems, as they use a slightly different boot methodology
  that
  seems to confuse the installer.

If all goes well, 8.0 will be installed on my Prismo 400 and TI G4 500
as well... Both still sit on MACOS 9.2.1

Any help and tips on installing all all my PPC platforms will be
  greatly
  appreciated.

Nope - this list is sort of dual purpose. Ongoing user support and

support for s900 , turbomax 33 ide card, twin turbo card, xlr8 g3

2001-11-09 Thread AllanL

I am very interested in mandrake, I see that this list really gives
answers. I have some issues, I did searches all over the internet and saw
only incomplete data.

A.The umax s900 is a 6 slot machine , is this supported, I saw some
notes about the bridge chip being nonstandard.
B. I have a turbomax 33 pci card which allows ide devices to be used
(makes them look like scsi to mac, apparently linux is smarter)
C. I have a twin turbo card that came with machine is it supported.
D. I have an xlr8 g3 350 , does the cache get initialized.

Experiences:

An ydl 7.0 gets lots of unknown interrupts and dies because it does
not see cd boot
A suse 8, also gets lots of unknown interrupts and then sees the
scsi cd, and sees the first partition of the ide drive on the turbomax, have
not got further.

Any ideas or suggestions?
