[Cooker] the rsync madness gotta stop!!!
Great! Now the damn uninett rsync mirror has done it again, my whole local RPMS repository is totally wiped... I have to urge the Mandrake rsync responsible personel to take immediate action to see that their official rsync mirrors is consistent and can be trusted. If I was a rsync and perl genie I would probably solve this by hacking the convenient "troels.rsync5.pl" perl script myself, but I'm not. I can say that my local repository has been wiped more than 10 times now during the last 2 or 3 months, using both sunet and uninett, and this starts to get on my nervs... This is bad PR. [Cooker] Slimlined CD creation
Hi This is based on the final stage of installation, when you have the possibility to save your 'done installation' on a floppy. Assume that this floppy could be used in an 'office-version' program after reboot. The program asks for the floppy, reads it and then asks for the needed CD's and creates a 'slimlined-office' iso image. The next step is then the burning of that image. For an admin, he then has the office version allowed for the staff to use, or the base version that gets all started. This presumed one CD version could be added with all wished for plugins &c, during the setup, that is needed to give a polished multimedia version. For a school and a college, you may even require that the CD is in the cdrom so that it may be used as an identification. regards guran -- Mandrake Linux 8.2 Cooker kernel-2.4.16.6mdk-1-1mdk version:2001:12:10:17:50

RE: [Cooker] System freezes
> > Just a quick question. I have a machine I use to run cookers and ocasionally > the system will freeze up solid. Is there a way to get a crash dump, like in > Solaris, to find out what caused the system to pass out? > Hold Alt-SysRq and press TUSB in sequence. (IIRC it is B for reboot). That should leave stack traces of all running process in /var/log/messages. If it does not ... well, what do you do on Solaris when you are unable to take dump? :-) Note it is not a crash dump in the usual sense but still it can give you indication what processes were (not) doing - or where they were sleeping. There is kdb that can be used to live analyze your system, but I have never used it. -andrej
