[Cooker-firewall] Re: MNF configuration help

2003-02-17 Thread Florin
Please do not email me directly for these kind of messages ... There is a
special mailing list for that.

Ed Colmar [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

 HI all.

 Hi Florin

I am a long time user of SNF, on three machines with much success and
 stability. THANK YOU THANK YOU.

Now I have a new machine for a little home network. Unfortunatly the NIC
cards are not supported in SNF, so I decided to try out MNF.

Install went great, and I can log in via the web interface... But I keep
killing things while trying to simplify the rules for this setup.

ALl I need is LAN + WAN (like SNF)... Is this possible with MNF? What do
I need to do to properly configure this?

It starts out with rules pre-installed for some things I don't use, like
DMZ.. Should I delete these out? Every time I do, I can no longer access
 via the web interface.

You could :

1. remove everything about dmz in the rules, then
2. same thing in the policies
3. remove the dmz zone in zones AT THE END ...

this should react as the SNF ...

Re: [Cooker] Bugzilla very slow

2003-02-17 Thread Combelles, Christophe (MED, ALTEN)
I had entered a bug for this :

https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1449

This can be easily? fixed by separating the product list from the page
itself: for example, putting the list into a separate file, so it is
recorded in the browser cache, and not reloaded every time.

Otherwise, the product selection could be done from a popup window, and
the code for the popup should be always the same.

Jean-Michel Dault wrote:
I always knew bugzilla was slow, but it gets worse every day, so I
measured it:

time -f %E lynx --dump https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/query.cgi/dev/null

25 seconds to load the query page... that's awful.

Compare to some other mandrake web sites (https and http)

time -f %E lynx --dump https://mandrakesecure.com /dev/null
0:05.46

time -f %E lynx --dump www.mandrakesoft.com /dev/null

I'm sure we could tweak Apache to get a bit more performance. If I can
give a hand, let me know.

What does 'hostname' give you? I guess localhost.localdomain. So, you will
notice that it can't be hardcoded as localhost.localdomain, it should be
set to `hostname`.

That's fine meaning it is as you stated but prior to 9.1 the second
example was the default setup of hosts, whereas with with the current
localhost.localdomain is missing and does cause problems with Evolution
and proftpd I understand the solution and so do you. But, a number
of new users won't. All they see is a product that doesn't work.

I agree, I just did not want the proposal to be hardcoding
localhost.localdomain, since that is just as broken. It needs to be able
to find `hostname` to work.

[Cooker] [Bug 1719] [urpmi-parallel-ssh] New: urpmi --parallel does not work

2003-02-17 Thread robert.thorneycroft
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1719

   Product: urpmi-parallel-ssh
 Component: program
Summary: urpmi --parallel does not work
   Version: 4.2-18mdk
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: critical
  Priority: P1
AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The parallel option does not appear to be working correctly, I have the
following packages installed:
 rpm -qa | grep urpmi
urpmi-parallel-ssh-4.2-18mdk
urpmi-4.2-18mdk

My /etc/urpmi/parallel.cfg file reads as follows:
robpc01:ssh:robpc01
opcpc01:ssh:opcpc01
opcpc02:ssh:opcpc02
opcpc03:ssh:opcpc03
opcpc0102:ssh:opcpc01 opcpc02
opcpc0103:ssh:opcpc01 opcpc03
opcpc0203:ssh:opcpc02 opcpc03

I am using the following as an example of the command line (The install does not
work for any rpms however, not just binutils):

 urpmi --parallel opcpc02 binutils
To satisfy dependencies, the following packages are going to be installed (3 MB):
binutils-2.13.90.0.18-3mdk.i586
libbinutils2-2.13.90.0.18-3mdk.i586
Is this OK? (Y/n) y
distributing /var/cache/urpmi/rpms/binutils-2.13.90.0.18-3mdk.i586.rpm
/var/cache/urpmi/rpms/libbinutils2-2.13.90.0.18-3mdk.i586.rpm

And this is all that seems to happen, the files are successfully copied to the
remote machine into the /var/cache/urpmi/rpms directory, however no install then
occurs for the packages. If I then log onto the machine directly and use urpmi
to install the packages locally everything works without any problems or
additional dependencies needing to be resolved.

Kind regards,

Robert Thorneycroft

[Cooker] Boot dies with 2.4.20/21 from cooker on Sony Laptop

2003-02-17 Thread Rob Snow
Greetings,

I have a Sony z505lsk which I have cooker over a 9.0 install and I have a
problem with the post 2.4.19 kernels. Each time I try to boot one of them
my machine gets just past the 'mounting root read/write' and simply turns
itself off. This was the case with 2.4.20-??? from cooker over the original
9.0 install and with a current complete cooker install with the 2.4.21-
p45/p46. I can still boot into the 2.4.19-24 from 9.0, but all the cooker
kernels have the same effect - turn my machine off.

I am assuming it might have something to do with the ACPI stuff, but thats
really a wild guess at this time. I would send more information but it
seems that my syslog and messages are not getting updated before the machine
turns itself off.

Suggestions? Anyone else seen this problem?

-Rob

No, it still doesn't work.
The bug is simply not visible anymore in LC_ALL=fr, but try LC_ALL=fr_FR.UTF-8
and harddrake will crash (in fact it crashes for all non-8bit locales).

calling explicitely ugtk2::prepare_gtk2(); after use lib solves the problem.

Even worst: if ugtk2::prepare_gtk2(); is called after use interactive
(something that should have no effect at all, as it is supposed to be called by
somewhere in interactive) then it doesn't crashes anymore but the strings in the
left pane (hardware devices tree) are wrongly encoded.
What cuases the crash seems to be that some strings of the menu bar gets
translated before prepare_gtk2 is actually called; and it seems not to happen in
use interactive but later.
The translations from the left pane come from require harddrake::data;, if I
put that line after call of prepare_gtk2 everything is ok.

So, I will put require harddrake::data; after the use interactive line, and
call ugtk2::prepare_gtk2() anyway, even if it shouldn't be done, until the bug
is properly fixed. In the meantime, callign it explicitely means the programs
work, instead of crashing.

Yeah, when instead we could ram another arbitrary KDE theme down
everyones throat ;-)

What point is a default theme (which is one way distros distinguish
themselves) if it is not the default? Maybe the newbies will change to
it by themselves?

Well drakconnect ought to let you configure this stuff, I believe. If
not, you can edit:

manually. To set ESSID, add a line:

WIRELESS_ESSID=ESSIDNAME

To set key, add a line:

WIRELESS_ENC_KEY=KEYINHEXADECIMALFORM

I don't know the key for setting the mode, maybe WIRELESS_MODE...it
defaults to infrastructure, which is right for me.

[Cooker] dosemu in contrib: license problem?

2003-02-17 Thread Danny Tholen
I had a look at dosemu recently. And although I never really used this
software I think I can put it back in contrib.

Question is: Debian put freedos in non-free because the dos programs are
compiled with a very old borland compiler, and supposedly therefore link
against a (closed source) C library from borland.

However, from the GPL:
However, as a special exception, the source code distributed need not
include anything that is normally distributed (in either source or binary
form) with the major components (compiler, kernel, and so on) of the
operating system on which the executable runs, unless that component itself
accompanies the executable.

So the question is, if this c library is a major component of the OS Freedos,
it's source does not need to be included if I am correct?

[Cooker] [Bug 1721] [mozilla] New: mozilla freezes mouse pointer

2003-02-17 Thread k.oriordan
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1721

   Product: mozilla
 Component: mozilla
   Summary: mozilla freezes mouse pointer
   Version: 1.3-0.beta.1mdk
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P2
AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

After a few minutes using mozilla, the mouse pointer changes into a right
angled arrow thingy (like the resize cursor when you click on top-left window
resize). After this I can no longer click on anything, and have to do a Ctrl-
Alt-Backspace to restart X server. Have been testing this under GNOME.

Depends what you mean by handle. AFAIK, PC-DOS, DR-DOS OS/2 don't read
longnames from floppies. Neither does MS-DOS in MS-DOS mode. Don't you suppose
some who have just had a failure attempting to install Mandrake might not
understand that report.bug.gz is the same thing as REPORT~1.GZ?

the installation error log filename would facilitate this procedure by those not
familiar with copying and renaming in a single command line process.

network medium bigger priority (beginning of file) and cdrom will be asked only

a FAT formatted floppy, which requires filenames in the 8.3 format. A change of
the installation error log filename would facilitate this procedure by those not
familiar with copying and renaming in a single command line process.

Maybe they can, maybe they can't, especially right after spending over an hour
trying unsuccessfully to insall Mandrake, which may have made their only other
OS unbootable.

PC-DOS 2000 was released in 1998
OS/2 is a current product:

[Cooker] [Bug 1695] [urpmi] The following packages have bad signatures

When the warning comes that a package has a bad signature, I can choose
whether to install it or not. When I choose to install it, there are no
problems with the package, so I assume the package was downloaded correctly.

Cheers

Whenever I try installing a package from the CD or a mirror, urpmi complains about
packages (all of them?) having bad signatures. This was annoying in mandrake 9.0, but
now the same problem occurs in the beta3 for 9.1...

Since the graphical update tool doesn't complain, I assume this program doesn't check
the
signatures, which is a bad thing.

[Cooker] [Bug 1722] [drakxtools-newt] New: drakTermServ loops forever

 Component: program

OS/Version: All

When I launch drakTermServ it loops forever without anything being displayed; I
have to kill it to resume.
Maybe it is searching for suitable servers and there is none in my locale network?
Or because I don't have terminal-server package installed?
But it should behave better in such case, displaying some error and allowing
for closing of the program.

Another thing: when I select drakTermServ in the tools list when opening a new
bug, it assigns it to terminal-server package, it should be drakxtools-newt

[Cooker] [Bug 1723] [drakxtools] New: draksec and bad encoding

2003-02-17 Thread pablo
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1723

   Product: drakxtools
 Component: i18n
   Summary: draksec and bad encoding
   Version: 9.1-0.32mdk
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal

Similar problem as in bug #1175
By adding ugtk2::prepare_gtk2(); the interface displays correctly, but the
dropsown list of security levels (Standard, etc) is still incorrect (it
displays the utf-8 strings as if they were latin1).
Even putting ugtk2::prepare_gtk2(); after the use lib line doesn't solve it.
Maybe the problem is in security/level.pm

To test it, launch draksec with translations of a non latin locale (to be sure
that the level names are not in ascii), for example in Russian.
LC_ALL=ru LANGUAGE=ru draksec
LC_ALL=ru_RU.UTF-8 LANGUAGE=ru draksec
the result isn't the same, which means that the translated string is converted
to locale charset encoding, while it shouldn't.

[Cooker] [Bug 1724] [sudo] New: mcc starts without root password

I run mcc on a remote machine for package update. These are the commands I run:

1. ssh remote-machine -l non-root-username

2. After login, I run mcc from commandline

3. It asks for root passwd. So far so good

4. mcc starts up after root passwd is given. I quit mcc.

5. Run mcc from commandline again. This time it starts without asking for root
passwd.

6. I quit mcc, logout of the remote machine.

7. Immediately, repeat steps 1 and 2. Mcc starts without asking for root passwd !!

Sudo default configuration is to accept to run commands that need elevetated
privilegied rights in the 5 minutes that follow a password success on the root login.
But should sudo continue to do so even after the remote ssh connection of the non-root
user
has ended ?

(There is no Galaxy package, so filing here)...

The galaxy KDE widget style is clearly based on the KDE highcolor
widget style (and includes at least tiny portions of Keramik sources); but the sources
are
missing the appropriate copyright credits from the original. IIRC, Removing copyright
headers
is a grave violation of the LGPL, and, although I am not 100% sure, of copyright laws
-- and at
any rate, it's rather poor form. Please correct immediately.
