[Cooker-firewall] Re: MNF configuration help
Please do not email me directly for these kind of messages ... There is a special mailing list for that. Ed Colmar [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: HI all. Hi Florin I am a long time user of SNF, on three machines with much success and stability. THANK YOU THANK YOU. Now I have a new machine for a little home network. Unfortunatly the NIC cards are not supported in SNF, so I decided to try out MNF. Install went great, and I can log in via the web interface... But I keep killing things while trying to simplify the rules for this setup. ALl I need is LAN + WAN (like SNF)... Is this possible with MNF? What do I need to do to properly configure this? It starts out with rules pre-installed for some things I don't use, like DMZ.. Should I delete these out? Every time I do, I can no longer access via the web interface. You could : 1. remove everything about dmz in the rules, then 2. same thing in the policies 3. remove the dmz zone in zones AT THE END ... this should react as the SNF ... -- Florin http://www.mandrakesoft.com http://people.mandrakesoft.com/~florin/

I guess localhost.localdomain. So, you will notice that it can't be hardcoded as localhost.localdomain, it should be set to `hostname`. That's fine meaning it is as you stated but prior to 9.1 the second example was the default setup of hosts, whereas with with the current localhost.localdomain is missing and does cause problems with Evolution and proftpd I understand the solution and so do you. But, a number of new users won't. All they see is a product that doesn't work. I agree, I just did not want the proposal to be hardcoding localhost.localdomain, since that is just as broken. Each time I try to boot one of them my machine gets just past the 'mounting root read/write' and simply turns itself off. This was the case with 2.4.20-??? from cooker over the original 9.0 install and with a current complete cooker install with the 2.4.21- p45/p46. I can still boot into the 2.4.19-24 from 9.0, but all the cooker kernels have the same effect - turn my machine off. I am assuming it might have something to do with the ACPI stuff, but thats really a wild guess at this time. I would send more information but it seems that my syslog and messages are not getting updated before the machine turns itself off. Suggestions? Anyone else seen this problem? -Rob

The bug is simply not visible anymore in LC_ALL=fr, but try LC_ALL=fr_FR.UTF-8 and harddrake will crash (in fact it crashes for all non-8bit locales). calling explicitely ugtk2::prepare_gtk2(); after use lib solves the problem. Even worst: if ugtk2::prepare_gtk2(); is called after use interactive (something that should have no effect at all, as it is supposed to be called by somewhere in interactive) then it doesn't crashes anymore but the strings in the left pane (hardware devices tree) are wrongly encoded. What cuases the crash seems to be that some strings of the menu bar gets translated before prepare_gtk2 is actually called; and it seems not to happen in use interactive but later. The translations from the left pane come from require harddrake::data;, if I put that line after call of prepare_gtk2 everything is ok. So, I will put require harddrake::data; after the use interactive line, and call ugtk2::prepare_gtk2() anyway, even if it shouldn't be done, until the bug is properly fixed. [Cooker] dosemu in contrib: license problem?
I had a look at dosemu recently. And although I never really used this software I think I can put it back in contrib. Question is: Debian put freedos in non-free because the dos programs are compiled with a very old borland compiler, and supposedly therefore link against a (closed source) C library from borland. However, from the GPL: However, as a special exception, the source code distributed need not include anything that is normally distributed (in either source or binary form) with the major components (compiler, kernel, and so on) of the operating system on which the executable runs, unless that component itself accompanies the executable. So the question is, if this c library is a major component of the OS Freedos, it's source does not need to be included if I am correct? Danny

Often this requires a rescue boot and transfer of this file to a floppy for submission to the deveopers by some other system. This other system may not be able to read a Linux native formatted floppy, so this file should be easily transferrable to a FAT formatted floppy, which requires filenames in the 8.3 format. A change of the installation error log filename would facilitate this procedure by those not familiar with copying and renaming in a single command line process.

Maybe it is searching for suitable servers and there is none in my locale network? Or because I don't have terminal-server package installed? Even putting ugtk2::prepare_gtk2(); after the use lib line doesn't solve it. Maybe the problem is in security/level.pm To test it, launch draksec with translations of a non latin locale (to be sure that the level names are not in ascii), for example in Russian. LC_ALL=ru LANGUAGE=ru draksec LC_ALL=ru_RU.UTF-8 LANGUAGE=ru draksec the result isn't the same, which means that the translated string is converted to locale charset encoding, while it shouldn't. --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
