This (enterprise-) kernel doesn't want to boot on my box (Asus

Anybody else?

This could be an issue. But I am not sure that a low level hack is the best
solution. Sometimes people want really erase a file.
Deleting a file can be also a "wipe" which means that the file must
be absolutly impossible to restore.
wipe : http://wipe.sourceforge.net/ does exist in Mandrake contribs.

So, when I use a low-level instruction, I am able to make the right choice.

With a medium level (bash) it is just necessary to create a rmc (remove
clever) which is able to move files in the trash. This is easy to do.
Then, it is possible to use: alias rmc='rm -a'

With a high level, delete key (KDE ) move already the file in the trash.
There is just a lack of maid or cleaning lady to empty it !

The trash directories should be defined in a config file or defined with an
environment variable.

To avoid a daemon, it is possible to calculate the size of the trash after
a move in the trash (rmc)

Not really a Cooker question but the short answer is kernel modules are
all ready loaded. Ati.2 is the XFree86 modules needed and avview is the
tv viewer app. Install ati.2, restart your Xserver and you are good to go.

Charles, why don't you tell me earlier :)

I have checked it; it's the approach I used when patching libtool 1.4.2
in mandrake package; but later I found it wrong. It just put the
-L$DESTDIR/usr/lib argument _after_ all other -L arguments, and let
libtool re-re-re-re-revert it until it becomes first argument. But
somehow some packages still manage to get the library path order wrong.

I have made another libtool patch in gettext package below that IMO does
the right thing; after all the reverting of arguments is done, it puts
-L$DESTDIR/usr/lib unconditionally in front of all other arguments.

I've put up another package that corrects other patches and have java
stuff splitted. Now only the LSB/Li18nux conformance patch is not
integrated. To make msgfmt fully comply with LSB 1.3, some more work is
needed. If you have time, may you try

Good idea.
But, if the policy will grow bigger and bigger, we should think before
witing, abot the organisation.

That's also why I asked. I can imagine that some form of controll is needed.

The nice thing about a wiki is that every change is stored. So, if
something goes wrong (somebody makes an unwanted addition or change, or
something is deleted) we can always go back to the previous version.

I hope that by putting it on the wiki the document will get updated
regularly, and that new idea's and area's of attention (web package
policy) will find it's way into the document.

But, a balance is needed. I wouldn't like it to evolve into yet annother
law book (big, bureaucratic). From time to time somebody will find that
things need some trimming...

Stefan

We should make sure that it's possible to write the howto in WikiSyntax,
whitout using too much html code.
As a matter of fact I started converting the howto this morning. Copy /
paste from one mozilla tab to the other, and then going through the
formatting.

Would it be better to put the howto as one big document, or to split it
up into a number of seperate ones. Any suggestions on how to do the
naming of the seperate ones in WiKi style?

[Cooker] Re: [Bug 4121] [kernel] No /dev/rtc or CDROM with latest cooker kernel

2003-06-28 Thread Paul Misner
Perhaps that would explain the other problem I've seen lately. It appears
that mkinitrd no longer works because the loopback device is not present.
I'm not expert enough to say that is the reason, but it seems likely, since
even earlier versions of the kernel suddenly lack a loopback device now.
That makes it very hard to install another kernel!

I'm sure this has wider implications than what we are talking about here, but
I now believe that in my case the newer kernel never installed and ran
properly because of this problem. The actual kernel was placed in a file
with a name different from the previous version, but there was no initrd, and
the modules for the new kernel were not installed.

Can we please get a working version of devfs on cooker soon?

disaster area) and nvidia doesn't start on boot.

I installed kernel-enterprise-2.4.21-0.0.1mdk-1-1mdk.i586.rpm yesterday. I
have several issues with it.

1. No /dev/rtc is present on boot. This means software like vmware that some
of us use for running essential tools under that other operating system don't
work well. In fact they barely work at all.

2. Another name collision. This version of the kernel replaced the last
version, which worked very well for me. I can restore it, at least I think I
have the RPM, but this is the second time we have had a name collision in the
2.4.21 kernel releases. This really shouldn't happen.

3. CDROM access is terrible. I haven't been able to get it to mount since the
kernel upgrade. The message is

mount /mnt/cdrom
/dev/hdc: Input/output error
mount: I could not determine the filesystem type, and none was specified
 or
mount /mnt/cdrom
mount: special device /dev/scd0 does not exist

depending on how I try to set up my fstab. This seems to mean that ide-scsi
is not working.

Mixing packages from different distributions is not supported
(e.g. mixing postfix from cooker with the rest from 9.1).

RoboVasion is a Real Time Strategie game along the lines of
other popular Real Time Strategie games. It will be based on

feature around five different kind of vehicles per race, at
least two (mostly symetric) races and probally around twenty
missions. An original story will be provided as well.
RoboVasion will most likly not break any new ground in the

instead it will hopfully provide one day a relativly simple
and fun RTS game that can keep you busy for a few days.

   Product: kdevelop
 Component: packaging
   Summary: kdevelop dependencies complaints
   Product: kdevelop
   Version: 2.1.5-6mdk
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P2
 Component: packaging
AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

when i try to do urpmi --auto-select now i get the following errors:

The following packages have to be removed for others to be upgraded:
kdevelop-2.1.5-6mdk.i586 (due to missing libkdevelopqextmdi.so.2, due to missing
libkdevelopgfxview.so.2, due to missing automake-1.4, due to missing
libkdevelopkpp.so.2, due to missing libkdevelopdbg.so.2, due to missing
libkdevelopkwrite.so.2, due to missing libkdevelopvc.so.2, due to missing
autoconf-2.13, due to missing libkdevelopsetup.so.2) (y/N)

this despite the above libraries actually being part of kdevelops package and
autoconf-2.13 and automake-1.4 actually being installed. This has happened ever
since I installed it by hand (where it also complained about the lack of
autoconf-2.13 and automake-1.4, even though they were installed then too.

I've tried removing and reinstalling the packages but no success.

[Cooker] postfix 2.0.12 doesn't work with cyrus-sasl 2.1.12

2003-06-28 Thread Xiong Jiang
Hi, there,

I am trying to setup postfix smtp auth (PLAIN and CRAM-MD5)
with cyrus-sasl. My sytem is a mandrake 9.1 with postfix 2.0.12
from cooker, and the stock cyrus-sasl 2.1.12.

The result is:
sasl2-sample-server and sasl2-sample-client works ok with
auxprop in
/usr/lib/sasl2/smtpd.conf

PLAIN smtp auth is ok, with saslauthd in
/usr/lib/sasl2/smtpd.conf
and SASL_AUTHMECH=shadow in /etc/sysconfig/saslauthd

However, when use pwcheck_method=auxprop in smtpd.conf,
PLAIN smtp auth fails with password verification failure,
CRAM-MD5 auth fails with "no secret found".

I can see that sasl2-sample-server/client and postfix smtpd both
invoked /usr/lib/sasl2/libplain.so.2.0.12. I tried substitute with
a modified version and I can see my modifed error message appeared.

And I do see smtpd opened /var/lib/sasl2/sasl.db in strace.

What I wonder why sasl2-sample-client/server works but smtpd
doesn't work ?

Any hint is appreciated.

[Cooker] [Bug 4121] [kernel] No /dev/rtc or CDROM with latest cooker kernel

2003-06-28 Thread [oliv.blin]
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4121

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-28-06 14:24 ---
It's perhaps a bug related to devfsd-1.3.25-28mdk.
Since I've upgraded to kernel-2.4.21-0.0.1mdk-1-1mdk and devfsd-1.3.25-28mdk,
/dev/fd0 and /dev/scd* are not created on boot.
Futhermore, while /dev/nvidia0 exists and "alias /dev/nvidia* NVdriver" is in
my /etc/modules.devfs, the NVdriver module isn't loaded on boot.

of us use for running essential tools under that other operating system don't
work well. In fact they barely work at all.

2. Another name collision. This version of the kernel replaced the last
version, which worked very well for me. I can restore it, at least I think I
have the RPM, but this is the second time we have had a name collision in the
2.4.21 kernel releases. This really shouldn't happen.

3. CDROM access is terrible. I haven't been able to get it to mount since the
kernel upgrade. The message is

mount /mnt/cdrom
/dev/hdc: Input/output error
mount: I could not determine the filesystem type, and none was specified
 or
mount /mnt/cdrom
mount: special device /dev/scd0 does not exist

depending on how I try to set up my fstab. This seems to mean that ide-scsi
is not working.

[Cooker] Mandrake RPM Howto on wiki

2003-06-28 Thread Stefan van der Eijk
Q: Ever considered putting the Mandrake RPM Howto (and other policy
documents) on the wiki?

In http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/twiki/bin/view/Main/PackagingTask there is
a section where "policy updates" are being collected. Why not add /
merge those into the policy right away, with a special comment added to
the change.

what do you think?

Huh?

It suddenly does not require perl-Pg?

Could you test with userdrake-0.92-2mdk ?

Building.

The problem occurs when there is gettext 0.11.x preinstalled. You can
run into trouble (the resulting gettext 0.12.1 requires gettext 0.11.x
libraries). That's the result I got with the stock libtool 1.5.

When calling libtoolize (thus have libtool 1.4.3 overwriting the stock
1.5), libraries won't have any ".so" extension.

Who knows.
