That is what i proposed initially, but Denis's answer was he wouldn't enforce
such a rule.

Actually, he wants something to sell in club, whatever the quality, and as no
one from mandrakesoft is providing it, he has to rely on volonteers for this.
So no quality enforcement, or any other constrainging mesure that could make
them unhappy. Of course, he never admitted it...

It is not the first time we have troubles with difficult task to do in %post.
I remember an old discussion about database installation, and someone exposed
the installation situation, where the sql daemon is not actually running.
Maybe is it time to devise some general delayed post-install mechanisme for

uhr? it's no problem at all to grab those patches from cvs, and including them
all takes up a lot of space and messes things up, and usually we don't want
any patches back later when we have removed them, mostly because they're
merged upstream or something similar..

On which package?

BTW, maybe with Warly's new mandrake_theme idea, we should consider
making up a mandrake_theme_enterprise, which also contains a desktop
background as it should, and a gdm theme, and possibly some themes for
karamba (and the gdesklet equivalent), but not have explicit requires
(gdm/karamba etc).

blino, WDYT?

I guess for the karamba stuff we need a working karamba first.

John Keller seems to know a bit about GDM themes, John, care to sort out
the stuff for a GDM theme, and someone can wrap it up in a package?

The permissions problem is the packager's personal choice, if it
persists. On the other hand, I think keeping the patches is a good
thing. If the patches are desired in later releases, it can always
be added back conveniently, without rescueing patch from CVS. (Though

ready, and attempts to start it from CUPS fail immediately.

The pending job is a standard test page from MCC printerdrake.

The system is getting an error trying to read from the printer; details are in a
snippet of syslog which I will attach. This occurs when CUPS initializes, and
may be responsible for the later behavior.

I'll also attach an excerpt from /var/log/cups/error_log with Debug on, which
gives the trace from trying to print the testpage.

The same printer works correctly if the same machine is booted from a May 18

Hello there,

Did I refuse the ldap patch for bind ? Hm ... I don't remember ... can you
point me again to the direction of that patch ?

A remark though, I have tried another proposed patch for dhcp-server ...
but ... I have some compilation problems ... maybe it's for openldap 1*

Example:
1/ Selecting cz keyboard layout:
   KDE Control Center->Accessibility->Keyboard->Layout(tab)
   Check "Czech" or "Czech QWERTY"
   Check "Enable keyboard layout"
2/ On taskbar switch to Czech keyboard

In today's cooker, an expert install which includes configuring an HP MF3330

hpoj daemon fails during initialization with the error

"/etc/init.d/hpoj setup needs to be run as root"

If you do this, you get the error

"The following devices are using an obsolete configuration file format. Use
./hpoj setup to delete and re-probe them"

You can continue, and it appears to probe/install the printer correctly.
However, an attempt to print a test page shows the printer as not started.

It seems that if setup needs to be run, it should be run by the install. Also,
if the message is to be believed, printerdrake is creating an obsolete config
file during the install.

This may be related to bug 4521 (can't install printer-utils).

I don't think I will have time to look at this any time soon. Look in

florin, please, it is possible to add ldap support via sdb backend? it
is trivial to patch and i think, that this don't downgrade security of
package. one thing which is maybe unaceptable is dependency on libldap2
package. AFAIK, modular concept isn't supported in case of bind, then
maybe would be better think support ldap source of zones via rpmbuild
option.

as we can see, mandrake have excelent ldap support for most

If I look at the send mails, the text writen in them was writen

My e-mail adress is changed.

Anyway, I suppose the virus is on the server of my ISP, working from

Also my McAfee-secured () Hotmail-account was infected.

I took precaution and made in my e-mailclient (I use Evolution under
Gnome)a user AAAOOO without e-mailadress. Thus far, my PC did not sent
any messages (although this is crazy, it is Linux, not Windows).
I tried , as you see, everything, as I am bored with viruses too.

I use firestarter as firewall, as I do not succeed to make Shorewall
work. It's all or nothing with that one.
Firestarter however does a nice job...

[Cooker] Beta2: Missing package

2003-08-26 Thread Maxim Heijndijk
On installing beta2 with only the first iso, I got an error: printer-utils rpm not
found. Clicking OK did nothing, the same message appeared over and over, and I had to
do a hard reset, because Alt+F2 "reboot" and "shutdown -r now" did not work.

When I booted from the freshly installed beta, I got file system checks and 3
automatic reboots because filesystems were not unmounted. The filesystem check
complained about duplicate filenames on my 9.1 partition.

When there are packages missing there should be a way to shut down cleanly.

I guess signature is included in package headers. From what i understood from

i guess this is because of the patch that prevent gimp to mistakely

It seems this issue is fixed in Mandrake cooker, win4lin 4 works now on
current cooker (except an older kernel, same as 9.2b2).

Ok, it should now be fixed with mandrake_desk 9.2-3mdk and gdm-2.4.2-102-2mdk.

I switched to GDM for my display manager through the Mandrake Control Center.
After restarting the display manager (or rebooting), an error message stating
that the session directory is missing or empty is displayed and you can only go
into failsafe mode at that time.

I was able to return to KDM by changing the run level in the terminal window to
not go to graphical login, rebooting, starting KDE and then running MCC to
change the display manager back (although in hind sight, I might have been able
to just run MCC in the failsafe terminal window, but I didn't try that).

Anyway, anyone who tries to use GDM is not going to be happy that it breaks the
login process and then they have to jump through hoops to fix it.

BTW, this was on a clean install of 9.2 Beta 2.

False (not true).
When the mail is reject, the MTA doesn't send back the mail. It's the other
MTA to implement an action to send back the mail to the return-path. And
sobig-f cannot do that itself (he has is own minimalist MTA)
So, using reject doesn't send a mailer daemon in this case. (if youuse a two
stage MX, you'll have to drop the mail on the first MX.)
But you will find *a lot* of filter/antivirus/etc who will detect the virus,
and send back to the return-path, a notice. and *this* is annoying.

[Cooker] [Bug 4916] [XFree86] New: wrong refresh rate in 640x480 for Savage/IX-MV

2003-08-26 Thread [mr]
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4916

   Product: XFree86
 Component: XFree86
Summary: wrong refresh rate in 640x480 for Savage/IX-MV
   Product: XFree86
   Version: 4.3-19mdk
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: P2
 Component: XFree86
AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The refresh rate in 640x480 is wrong resulting in a unreadable display (LCD).
This happens on an IBM T20 notebook with a Savage/IX-MV graphic card.

Note: when using savage_drv.o 1.1.27t for XFree86 4.3 available from
http://www.probo.com/timr/savage40.html this is not an issue.

For me it looks like a problem of the PostScript file generation. Which program
generated the PostScript file. Can you attach the PostScript file, the TTF font
(can also be a problem of this font file), and also the file of the application
which generated the PostScript file?

Pablo, I CC you, as the problem can also be in the TTF font file.

version I get from the mirrors is 7.05-53mdk, so this is maybe a bug in bugzilla

certain ttf-fonts installed via drakfont and/or spadmin just can't get printed.
The errors I get in /var/log/cups/error_log always look like this:

I traced the problem down and found the reason in the generated (temporary)
postscript file:

In the postscript file the ttf-font named "Stylus" is mapped as:

-CUT---
%%Title: Stylus Regular
-CUT---
... which is WRONG.

CORRECT is:
-CUT---
%%Title: Stylus-Regular
-CUT---

If all occurances of the wrong "Stylus Regular" have been replaced, printing is
successful.

As I said, I have no idea if ghostscript is the real bad boy here ...

This happens for many ttf-fonts, so at least for me this is a major problem. The
reason are always the missing dashes in the font-names.

Upon request I can also post Stylus.ttf as an attachment.

I asked Pixel about the change but as Buchan said it's not mandatory to
begin at 500. You can specify uid manually with userdrake so you have a nice
workaround there.

That's a little more difficult. The articles/docs aren't database driven
and would likely not show up very often because they don't get written or
updated very often.

you don't need to change the location of gnome trash as it is in memory ( no
file create )

[Cooker] new bootsplash and mandrake_theme and help wanted

2003-08-26 Thread Warly

Now mandrake_desk require mandrake_theme.

packages providing mandrake_theme contains:

. dektop background (/usr/share/backgrounds)

. bootsplash images and config

. lilo message image

mandrake_theme require bootsplash package.

bootsplash package only provides bootsplash utils to create and manage bootsplash.

Look at mandrake_theme package and spec file for details.

-=-=

Now where help would be appreciated.

I integrate the 800x600 and 1024x768 but could not test and setup the
higher resolution, if one can, it is quite easy just a bit long.

Look at the 800x600 config file in
/etc/bootsplash/themes/Mandrake/bootsplash-800x600.cfg and try to reproduce
the same look with higher resolution.

to test your modification use the following command:

splash -s -u 0 /etc/bootsplash/themes/Mandrake/config/bootsplash-.cfg

Thanks!

[Cooker] Cooker kdepim-3.1.3-12mdk.i586.rpm is empty

2003-08-26 Thread Aleksander Adamowski
I've synced my machine with latest cooker recently, and I've discovered
that I cannot run korganizer - it's not present.

I've downloaded the kdepim-3.1.3-12mdk.i586.rpm package manually, and it
turns out it's empty - there are no files inside, only RPM metadata.

I support this. My girlfriend does not know how to do this by hand and
having her download updates over slow line from Czech Rep. or elsewhere
is a pain, especially, when there is a local mirror.

My understanding is that when one package replaces other, this is
enough:

Obsoletes: kernel-utils
Provides: kernel-utils

I think that the problem was the _manual_ installation of
installkernel after bootloader-utils.

Fred, do I need to add a Conflicts tag, or removing kernel-utils from
the repository should be enough?

It does obsolete kernel-utils.

rpm -q --obsoletes bootloader-utils
kernel-utils

rpm -q --requires initscripts

grep
util-linux >= 2.10s
mount >= 2.11l
bootloader-utils

If one tries to use urpmi to manually install kernel-utils, of course
you will get a conflict error.

It needs to be removed from the mirror .

Do you mean "fixed as of 8/7" or "fixed as of 8/21" ? I saw it fixed after 8/7
as well. If you saw it fixed after 8/21, can you confirm that you're running
2.3.6.2 and that it's still fixed now ?

This can be obfuscated by the fact that any GNOME event seems to take the icon
down, e.g. Mandrake Galaxy opening, or any reopening of an app that was running
when you logged out. If you have anything like that going on, it will *look* fixed.

That is very, very weird.

If I remembered correctly You told me that for you 2.4.21 is faster
than 2.4.22. (~50MB/s vs ~20MB or something like that).

You have in _both_ dmesg messages acpi disabled (that means that acpi
can't be related with that).

What is more strange is that in 2.4.21 your disk is recognized as UDMA33
one, instead of UDMA100.

Could you check that your cable is UDMA100 really?

-hda: 156301488 sectors (80026 MB) w/8192KiB Cache, CHS=9729/255/63, UDMA(33)
+hda: 156301488 sectors (80026 MB) w/8192KiB Cache, CHS=9729/255/63, UDMA(100)

This are the relevant lines. If I remembered rigth, you can't get
50MB/s with UDMA33.

hdparm -i output with both kernels should be more interesting.

And could you please send me the dmesg output with apci=on (i.e no
pci=noacpi neither acpi=off).

Thanks, Juan.

I only have PCMCIA wireless cards, so I am not able to try anything
else, but I do not think it has to do with the card. I think it's
pcmcia_cs and/or the kernel. It does not happen when I run my old

Or am I missing something?
No, there is another devel bundle called the XFree86-SDK or whatever. Most
distros don't include it, but a few do (debian I think). It's required for
very low-level linking of stuff like the ATI drivers.

Spence and I asked one of the Freds about it a while ago. Doesn't sound
likely to be included.

Seems I've lost lots of mail, I didn't get titi's reply.

Anyway, gimp 1.3 is an _optional_ _runtime_ dependency. If you have used
gqview before, you'll certainly understand that. At least it's much better
than trying to call XV, which is obsolete. Although ee is obsolete too,
but it's still in cooker so I don't remove that choice.

In today's cooker, if you execute MCC -> Software Management -> Software Media

the Add window disappears. If you do it by running drakconf from a root command
line, you see:

This probably explains what the problem is then; I'm getting UDMA100 with the
2.4.22-0.8, and this is probably the source of the problem.

I trying to do a clean re-install, but current cooker (locally generated ISO)
is not installable.

I've also put the 2.4.22 kernel on my other machine (NF7-S V1.2, which is
normally very stable), and X crashed after 3 hours, with console video
knackered.

Will keep everyone posted.

Hmm, I am not sure which is a better solution (especially with the
upcoming kconf editor, which will make it easier to set system-wide
defaults). I think some of the issues with Konqueror
single-click/double-click may have been cause by a patch instead of
fixing the default config file (though I still have to test this theory).

Run gnome-network-preferences, hit the details button, and you will get a dialog
with "use authentication" checkbox, which enables the "username" and "password"
text fields. Check the checkbox, enter a password, and you will see it is in the
clear.

This is a serious security issue, passwords should never be displayed in the
clear (in my case, we use single sign-on, my proxy password is my LDAP account
password, which has higher priveleges than most users).

[also, there are no proxy exclusion settings, which is why I avoid using GNOME
applications for internet access as even local traffic goes through our
expensive upstream proxy]

It use config file and if there is not config file it use "cups" by default.
I don't see problem.

Problem with default config file is that when we click on "default" button
into kcontrol it doesn't take default parameter.
So patch source is better.

You should be able to get the machine down more softly using the "magic"
sysrq keys, ie ALT-SYSRQ-e,ALT-SYSRQ-i,ALT-SYSRQ-s,ALT-SYSRQ-u,ALT-SYSRQ-o

Have you tried just restarting pcmcia, it might trigger the same issues.

Well, AFAIK, it's not limited to wireless cards (it happened on my
laptop with a PCMCIA 100MB NIC), it didn't happen in 2.4.21-6mdk (which
I am running currently after doing an install of beta2).
