[Cooker] [Bug 5893] [drakxtools] Connection sharing always disabled
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5893 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-22-09 08:44 --- Please re-open bug. It is only part solved. Always showing "disabled" problem is now fixed. Sharing connection problem is still not fixed. The client machine still can not see the internet. I have tried re-configuring via the connection sharing wizard and also switching the firewall on and off, restarting both machines etc. Still can't see shared connection. I already had drakxtools-9.2-9mdk, one version later than drakxtools-9.2-8mdk. However, I updated via Cooker to drakxtools-9.2-16mdk. This fixed the "disable" state problem but not the lack of connection sharing. -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: RESOLVED creation_date: description: On MDK 9.2RC2 I try to enable internet connection sharing but get no connection via the client network. I am using a Speedtouch USB modem as the connection I wish to share. When I re-check Internet Connection Sharing, I am told it is set up but currently disabled. I try to enable it but it never does. No error message. It simply always stays in a disabled state. I had a similar problem with MDK 9.1 and resolved it by using an IPtables script instead.

rsync-plus. The documentation of rsync-plus on my web site (see sig) has been updated so as to now include instructions for executing the rsync-plus perl modules. Thanks for bringing this oversight to my attention. To cause rsync-plus to download Mandrake for all languages, just don't download the rsync_exclude file, or delete or rename it.Your total download will increase by well over 500MB. [Cooker] ivtv
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Juan et al, After a recent experience of having Hauppauge generically recommended for a tv tuner card, I went out and got one, only to learn after a great deal of work that it's not exactly supported out of the box. The old Hauppauge cards had the bttv chipset, which works just great out of the box with mandrake. The newer ones use a completely different chipset, supported by the ivtv drivers at http://ivtv.sourceforge.net/ It took a lot of documentation reading and a lot of work to get them working. It would be nice if we could include them. The PVR functionality isn't provided by this driver without the decidedly un-free firmware, but it would be awfully nice to be able to set up these newer cards via drakxtv. The problem has been discussed in "X Server unexpectedly dying" on the cooker list. I cannot find the source of the problem or the resolution, yet. The only 'error' is from the mdkkdm and kdm logs: XFree86 Version 4.3.0 ... It is always the same message. The dm dies shortly after that. The mdkkdm log also has the exact same message. Perhaps *kdm are not happy with GLX??? Eventually ending up with a screen shot like this. http://www.gkmweb.com/images/9.1-KDE_vnc.jpg The desktop keeps flashing periodically. GNOME has a similar behavior in that it flashes, but the desktop seems to load. Occasionally after one of the flashes, an error message pops up a dialogue box that says KDesktop error. Sorry, i was not able to capture it. I thought maybe the Galaxy theme had something to do with it, so I switched KDE to the Keramik theme, and it still exhibited this behavior, although the the error message and the flashing stopped occurring when GNOME was running. So maybe it does belong to Galaxy, and that led me to post it here as a KDE-Galaxy bug. vnc logs have nothing interesting in them and the system logs are equally bare on this issue. It should not do that. ( In this case, those files were in /usr/libexec/webmin. The location /usr/libexec/webmin is where Webmin normally resides when upgraded/installed from the author's SF site. ) It took me hours, days, ... to reorganize the Webmin initial (index) display and remove unused program configurators(security risks). The installation process killed all of that work in a few seconds. Although it might be necessary to reset to default parameters during an upgrade to insure a working Webmin it is NOT necessary to delete all the config files that currently exist. Of special interest is that the upgrade-installation destroyed my configuration but it left all of the other files/dirs dangling in /usr/libexec/webmin. Since the end user can get upgrades to Webmin from the Author's SF site, I believe that the proper solution here is to change the default install location of webmin to /usr/libexec/webmin and only ln -s /usr/libexec/webmin /etc/webmin (if /etc/webmin must exist for some reason), and, of course, do NOT ever delete user configuration files during an upgrade; rename them if you must, but do NOT delete them! Please adjust the spec file to move any existing config files to .rpmbak (or something like that). Since MDK is changing (has changed?) to Webmin from Linuxconf as the main configurator in addition to the *drak* programs, it is _critical_ that installation be handled properly. [more] BTW, the work I had done was primarily to eliminate possible security risks that had been reported by the security scanner nessus. I just ran that scan again and now I have OVER 1000 lines of warnings and even a security "hole" listed in the report for Webmin. I'll attach a pic to illustrate the problem. IOW, the default webmin install includes many useless configurators(i.e., the corresponding programs are not installed). I suggest running nessus, taking a look at the output for webmin and adjusting the default install accordingly. (I also think Vincent needs to look at the nessus output for RC2 with webmin.)

The end result is always the same. I get this sound from my computer indicating that something is accessing the hard drive (kswapd?) like crazy and seconds to a minute after I have an unusable desktop. Usage is at 68% now so I better make this quick. This is how I reproduce it: log in to kde or gnome open up a file manager open up mozilla, x-chat, mcc and gaim. Sit back and watch the numbers go up. I actually did watch last time and it seemed to me to happen quicker when mozilla was open. (note that a connection with the XIM is done, but it seems the typed flow gets lost) If in qtrc the style is changed to "Over the Spot", then the input is possible, but in blind mode (korean chars aren't seen while typing, only when you press space). At the time someone objected my explanation wasn't clear: please find below the attempt I've made to better explain the problem. Cheers, Corrado --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-05 15:10 --- Nope, there is a bug. What happened is that I unchecked the 'Automatic IP' (I use static addressing) but the 'Get name from DHCP' checkbox remained ON and not modificable, and in my opinion it shouldn't. Since I needed to set my host name, I had to re-enable the 'Automatic IP' checkbox, then uncheck the 'Get name' checkbox (now possible) and then disable again the 'Automatic IP' checkbox. It's a bug, IMHO. It's more difficult to describe it than to test it in practice. - On Sun September 21 2003 22:47, [tvignaud] wrote: -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: ASSIGNED creation_date: description: During eth0 configuration, there is a funny dependence between the checkboxes 'Automatic IP' and 'Get host name from DHCP server'. Unlike other -Wall errors, it does not appear possible to just turn off forbids braced-groups errors. I'm not in a position to test whether 9.2rc2 still produces this behaviour so I'd like to ask someone who is to test whether these errors are still produced (you will need the libSDL_net1.2-devel package). [Cooker] [Bug 4690] [harddrake-ui] sound blaster live not taking the driver correctly
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4690 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-21-09 22:18 --- Well, I found out what the problem was with my sound card. Apparently Dell deviates from the standard OEM spec for Sound Blaster Live! 5.1. The EMU10K1 drivers just don't work on it (yet). The problem has been around since the Spring, and no one from Dell seems to care (though it's acknowledged on their support page). There are commercial EMU10K1X drivers available from a third party, but they cost $35 and the demo only works for 3 hours. Mandrake detects the card as EMU10K1X, so I was hoping they had drivers for it, but apparently it's just detection. They don't have the drivers or any equivalent. If there is an open source equivalent someone can point me to, I'd be really happy. Otherwise, I'm just going to try to swap the card with my old SB Live card and that should hopefully work. Thanks everybody for all the help. I guess the moral is that I should have listened to my conscience and not bought from a major OEM. -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: NEEDINFO creation_date: description: in 9.2 beta 2 the sound blaster live driver does not take properly. i have opened mandrake control center and went to the sound card and enter emu on several occasions and it does not accept the change. audigy is still present. i have had to enter it and reboot and enter it again and reboot over and over and then finally it works.

My printer is a Samsung ML-1210 laser jet. All this hardware installed perfectly under MDK 8.2. The mobo sound chip, AC97, is diabled with a jumper, and the PCI sound card, SBLive is set to be active. A cable runs from the ATI Wonder TV to the SBLive so that XawTV can pipe audio to the SBLive and hence to the speakers. Again, ALL this worked perfectly under MDK 8.2. When I attempt an install of the SBLive (Hey, why not an ICON for the sound card?) it gives me the emu10K1 ALSA option, which I select. When I check the modules that get loaded I notice that the AC97 mobo chip has about 6 devoted to itself. When setting up sound in MDK 8.2 the AC97 chip was ignored, as it should be. Also, right after installing rc1 the first time, I noticed that the sound was present when I ran KDE 3.1 under the root account, but not under the user account. In MDK 8.2 the users were automatically given access to the sound. I added my account to the audio group but that was not effective. So, I re-ran the sound card configuration. When I check my user account I had no sound. When I checked the root account it has NO sound either. So, I am going backwards here. This is the first time in six years, since I began using Linux, that I cannot get my sound going. The config files get overwritten by the MCC scripts so no sense in changing them. Rock and a hard place. MKD 9.1, like 9.0 is a step backward in dectection and setup when compared to 8.2.

http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5893 Product: drakxtools Component: drakgw Summary: Connection sharing always disabled Product: drakxtools Version: 9.2-16mdk Platform: PC OS/Version: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: drakgw AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED] On MDK 9.2RC2 I try to enable internet connection sharing but get no connection via the client network. -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
[Cooker] [Bug 5523] [drakxtools] diskdrake is not beos friendly
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5523 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-21-09 21:53 --- In /etc/fstab, i have tried to remove the line: /dev/hda1 /mnt/beos befs defaults 0 0 And diskdrake restored the same setting (with befs). That part of the bug is corrected. But using diskdrake i can't mount the beos partition (though "mount /mnt/beos" as root works), so i think there's still a problem, maybe with options used. Diskdrake acts as the partition is mounted and displays unmount button (which fails and stays as the partition isn't mounted). But unmounting an already mounted partition with diskdrake is ok. I get this in /var/log/messages : diskdrake[10886]: isMounted=, real_mntpoint=, mntpoint=/mnt/beos diskdrake[10886]: mounting hda1 on /mnt/beos as type befs, options defaults diskdrake[10886]: skipping mounting befs partition and finally, well, i have not installed cooker either from ftp nor rebuilt a cd set since RC2... so i cannot say for the installation part for now. -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: NEEDINFO creation_date: description: Mount points have to be edited by hand. No entry is created for beos in the boot manager. Boot configuration can be done in drakboot after installation. I have installed BeOS Max Edition v3 beta 2 for this test (maybe i should try with BeOS 5 PE too ?). Trying to create a mount point for the beos partition i get in fstab type "235" instead of "befs". and the partition can't be mounted. but the worst is when installing RC2 (i don't create a second bug because i think it's a consequence of this one): * first i am not proposed to set a mount point for this partition, * then the installer tries to initialize it as ext3, and reports a error, * i have to uncheck the said parttion for it not to be formated (!!), * i have then to tell i do not want to set any mount point for it so i can continue with the installation, * and due to the error the installation window is no more set in the widget (it's pretty difficult at the end of the install to see the summarry's content). Fortunately, the installation could go to the end and the partition has not been hurt:) I know it doesn't concern many users, but that's a bug... Guillaume.

Do you wish to make GNOME the default for future sessions ?" If you click yes, all your future logins will default GNOME. You can change this to any other UI you wish by clicking on Session. It looks as if the os does not recollect wha t the "Last" Session logon was So the problem seems ro stem from the fact that during setup, the preferred UI is set to GNOME, but the "Last " field was not updated to assign the "Last" UI to be GNOME and not KDE. this value for "Last" should be set during the OOBE when the user picks the preferred UI.
