[Cooker] [Bug 5893] [drakxtools] Connection sharing always disabled

2003-09-21 Thread [home]

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-22-09 08:44 ---
Please re-open bug. It is only part solved.

Always showing "disabled" problem is now fixed.
Sharing connection problem is still not fixed. The client machine still can not
see the internet. I have tried re-configuring via the connection sharing wizard
and also switching the firewall on and off, restarting both machines etc. Still
can't see shared connection.

I already had drakxtools-9.2-9mdk, one version later than drakxtools-9.2-8mdk.
However, I updated via Cooker to drakxtools-9.2-16mdk. This fixed the "disable"
state problem but not the lack of connection sharing.

On MDK 9.2RC2 I try to enable internet connection sharing but get no connection
via the client network.

I am using a Speedtouch USB modem as the connection I wish to share.

When I re-check Internet Connection Sharing, I am told it is set up but
currently disabled. I try to enable it but it never does. No error message. It
simply always stays in a disabled state.

I had a similar problem with MDK 9.1 and resolved it by using an IPtables script
instead.

Expected Results:

The display should be fullscreen, without a repeated part.

Photo of the corrupt display

This is a photo because, as all is correct in memory, a screen copy could not
render what can be seen. It is visible on the right that in 1024*768, all
points at the right of about x=800 (the width of the LCD on the Gateway Solo)
are a copy of another part of the screen.. Depending of the bpp mode, the
colors can change in this right part.

rsync-plus.

The documentation of rsync-plus on my web site (see sig) has been
updated so as to now include instructions for executing the rsync-plus

Thanks for bringing this oversight to my attention.

To cause rsync-plus to download Mandrake for all languages, just don't
download the rsync_exclude file, or delete or rename it.Your total
download will increase by well over 500MB.

I went there when I first set up my cooker box a few weeks ago. From

was being forced to use UK English, without which I might have tried
harder to understand exactly how to use your stuff.

The cloop module has been in the default kernel since 2.4.22-1mdk.
cloop-utils (for compressing/decompressing) the iso has been added to
Contrib as well. (I think about a week ago.)

Im pondering doing a memory key version of Mandrake and it seems that
this is just about the only piece missing.
You might find my scripts (not in contrib yet) at

[Cooker] ivtv

2003-09-21 Thread Rocco Stanzione
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Juan et al,

After a recent experience of having Hauppauge generically recommended for a tv
tuner card, I went out and got one, only to learn after a great deal of work
that it's not exactly supported out of the box. The old Hauppauge cards had
the bttv chipset, which works just great out of the box with mandrake. The
newer ones use a completely different chipset, supported by the ivtv drivers
at http://ivtv.sourceforge.net/

It took a lot of documentation reading and a lot of work to get them working.
It would be nice if we could include them. The PVR functionality isn't
provided by this driver without the decidedly un-free firmware, but it would
be awfully nice to be able to set up these newer cards via drakxtv.

Thanks,

Rocco

I just upgraded to 2.4.22.1, and as soon as the init scripts brought up eth0,
the system hung solid (dead even to magic sysreq keys).

I rebooted in the old kernel, removed ifcfg-eth0 to disable ethernet startup,
and rebooted in 2.4.22.1 again.

Everything ran fine - dmesg showed the via being detected etc. I did a (manual)
ifconfig eth0 x.x.x.x, which seemed OK, and then I did another ifconfig to
correct the netmask and broadcast and about 1-2 seconds later, the system was
hung again.

I don't think it was setting up the interface that killed it, but more probably
the actual transmission or reception of a packet. The dmesg showed the MII
negotiating ok in the first step, but nothing after that.
(eth0: Setting full-duplex based on MII #1 link partner capability of 45e1.)

2.4.21-6 shows this as:

Without sysreq, I can't get a trace of where it's stuck. Is there any other easy

Hope it's an easily fixed, as I'm looking forward to 9.2 final on this little box...

I'm having a problem that may be related to this bug.
The issue here affects both mdkkdm and kdm but apparently no other QT
aps(meaning I have not found one that does it yet).
After an upgrade from MDK 9 to 9.2rc2, mdkkdm would not run and display the
login screen. I upgraded KDE from cooker and installed kdm. The kdm ap has the
same problem.

The problem has been discussed in "X Server unexpectedly dying" on the cooker
list. I cannot find the source of the problem or the resolution, yet.
The only 'error' is from the mdkkdm and kdm logs:

XFree86 Version 4.3.0
...
(==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/XF86Config-4"
Using vt 7
(II) [GLX]: Initializing GLX extension
/usr/bin/kdm_greet: error while loading shared libraries: libqt-mt.so.3: cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory

The kdmlog snippet is the same info as from the XFree log. It is always the same
message. The dm dies shortly after that. The mdkkdm log also has the exact same
message. Perhaps *kdm are not happy with GLX???

There are sopme other messages indicating that kdm & mdkkdm are not happy with
the kdmrc file but 'fixing' kdmrc has not made the problem go away. :(

Both KDE and GNOME seem to be having trouble with Galaxy tightvnc-server-1.2.7-2. It
seems to be focused on Galaxy-KDE as explained later.

Fluxbox works just fine, just GNOME and KDE have exhibited issues.

KDE loads the wallpaper and then various components seem to go flashing by like a grey
bar where the kicker is supposed to be. Eventually ending up with a screen shot like
this.

http://www.gkmweb.com/images/9.1-KDE_vnc.jpg

The desktop keeps flashing periodically.

GNOME has a similar behavior in that it flashes, but the desktop seems to load.
Occasionally after one of the flashes, an error message pops up a dialogue box that
says KDesktop error. Sorry, i was not able to capture it.

I thought maybe the Galaxy theme had something to do with it, so I switched KDE to the
Keramik theme, and it still exhibited this behavior, although the the error message
and the flashing stopped occurring when GNOME was running. So maybe it does belong to
Galaxy, and that led me to post it here as a KDE-Galaxy bug.

vnc logs have nothing interesting in them and the system logs are equally bare on this
issue.

What else can I do to help troubleshoot?

On the other PC : Asus P4PE, chip "as99127f" , I have no problem.
The first time, I had :
fan1: 2265 RPM (min = 1500 RPM, div = 4) ALARM
After editing /etc/sensors.conf and reset of sensors, it works fine.

I have noticed that the output of sensors gives:
alarms:
beep_enable:
  Sound alarm enabled
However I have heard no alarm the first time !
And there is no mention of alarms in /etc/sensors.conf or in documentation.

I guess that this is the problem on the other computer.
It should be better to package sensors with sound alarm disabled.

I had the same problem.
If I launch DiskDrake, the icon appears, and I cancel DiskDrake in the pop-up window.

Have a look at Bug#: 2186 about Flash readers :
If I plug and unplug usb flashreaders from different vendors in any order, it is
difficult to use
them again. Reboot is the easiest way.

You may also want to consider joining our discussions regarding the future
of http://minicd.berlios.de and the recent work
(http://www.linuxminicd.org/mklivecd). I just have't had the time to
actually test everything, but if someone can confirm it works, I will
upload it to contrib. THe author is quite busy, but we have contact with

( In this case, those files were in /usr/libexec/webmin. The location
/usr/libexec/webmin is where Webmin normally resides when upgraded/installed

It took me hours, days, ... to reorganize the Webmin initial (index) display
and remove unused program configurators(security risks). The installation
process killed all of that work in a few seconds.

Although it might be necessary to reset to default parameters during an upgrade
to insure a working Webmin it is NOT necessary to delete all the config files
that currently exist.

Of special interest is that the upgrade-installation destroyed my configuration
but it left all of the other files/dirs dangling in /usr/libexec/webmin.

Since the end user can get upgrades to Webmin from the Author's SF site, I
believe that the proper solution here is to change the default install location
of webmin to /usr/libexec/webmin and only
ln -s /usr/libexec/webmin /etc/webmin (if /etc/webmin must exist for some
reason), and, of course, do NOT ever delete user configuration files during an
upgrade; rename them if you must, but do NOT delete them! Please adjust the
spec file to move any existing config files to .rpmbak (or
something like that).

Since MDK is changing (has changed?) to Webmin from Linuxconf as the main
configurator in addition to the *drak* programs, it is _critical_ that
installation be handled properly.

BTW, the work I had done was primarily to eliminate possible security risks that
had been reported by the security scanner nessus. I just ran that scan again
and now I have OVER 1000 lines of warnings and even a security "hole" listed in
the report for Webmin. I'll attach a pic to illustrate the problem.
IOW, the default webmin install includes many useless configurators(i.e., the
corresponding programs are not installed). I suggest running nessus, taking a
look at the output for webmin and adjusting the default install accordingly.
(I also think Vincent needs to look at the nessus output for RC2 with webmin.)

okay, I just installed cooker on a satellite 5200-903. Sound i810 will load
and work only if acpi is turned on (no acpi statement in lilo) but then there
are no problems. Harddrake service must be off, otherwise the box locks at
boot.

I saw the same thing as described in bug 4944, ie being unable to log in as
user. I think it is related to devfs and the non-existant floppy. I cannot
speculate as to why that would stop user login. However, I commented out some
stuff including floppy and the non-existant parallel port in
/etc/modules.devfs. Then I restarted devfsd and Bingo! I can log in as user.

"And xawtv
works only in overlay mode, just try grabdisplay mode."
- Using grabdisplay is the only way i get decent fullscreen so "it works for
me" in both overlay and grabdisplay mode.
As for zapping working with acpi=off, i thought i tried this but don't
remember. I'll try (again?) later and see what happens.

This problem exists in the 4.3-22 and 4.3-23 drivers. Whenever I log into X w/
KDE or Gnome within a matter of hours (2 usually) X uses up enough of the memory
to hang the system. Currently it's at 46% usage, wait it went up to 59.5% and a
couple minutes before it was at 50-ish % as well. Apparently the increased isn't
steady. Not that it matters. The end result is always the same. I get this sound
from my computer indicating that something is accessing the hard drive (kswapd?)
like crazy and seconds to a minute after I have an unusable desktop.
Usage is at 68% now so I better make this quick.
This is how I reproduce it:
log in to kde or gnome
open up a file manager
open up mozilla, x-chat, mcc and gaim.
Sit back and watch the numbers go up.
I actually did watch last time and it seemed to me to happen quicker when
mozilla was open.
I have the cool looking cursors installed for X too, come to think of it I don't
think I was having these problems w/ the plain cursors. I'll switch them and see
what happens.
BTW whenever i do ALt+sysrq+i to kill X (cause ctrl-blah doesn't respond) i get
taken to a garbled terminal.

nvidia ti-4200
256 mb sdram
~500 mb swap
happens when I use nv drivers or nvidia drivers.
Can't think of anything else to help in troubleshooting
X usage was 58% a couple secs ago now it's 67.4% This took me about 5-8 minutes
to write.

Ok, this is a big long and there are several bug encountered, please let me know

I have a SMC-2662W device and an internal network card (e100 - eth0). I can
connect to a wireless access point and to a fixed lan for internet. Here is a
run down of the steps (and the bugs):
-Start the computer (e100 is connected to the network)
-Plug in the device
-Device seems to be recognised by driver usbvnetr : "../src/usb/vnetusba.c: usb
eth1 initialized and registered" (IMPROVEMENT: some visual feedback or sound on
this would be great, especially for newbies)
-run Drakconnect
-Device is there under eth1 but driver says "e100" (BUG)
-Create new profile called "stuff"
-"Stuff is not availab;le in the list of profiles (BUG)
-Create new profile called "stuff"
-Select "stuff" in the list of profiles (it's now available)
-Half the time this crashes Drakconnect (think it might be DHCP on eth0 taking 2
minutes to time out, hint hint) (BUG:reduce timeout for DHCP)
-Launch the wizard (let's try it out !!)
-Use auto detection and Expert mode are checked

why i pressed the Launch Wizard button)

-Found Intel... Pro 100 network, do you have another one? (BUG: where is my
vnetusba device???)
-Yes -> Next
-Select "usbvnet_rfmd"
-Next
-Another one?, No, Next
-Config eth0(e100), i set up static address

-Config eth1(e100) (BUG: it should be usbvnet_rfmd)
-Setup as DHCP (BUG: where is the wireless options configuration???)
-Next
-Zeroconf -> nothing, hostname: i set up "stuffy", Next
-Next
-Proxies -> none
-Next
-Config complete, apply??? yes -> Next
-Network restarted, do I want to restart??? Yes -> Next
-Computer hangs for a couple of minutes (BUG: wireless is trying to get address
from DHCP but I haven't configured the wireless options so where is it going to
get it from??? Nowhere. Reduce the timeout, please)
-Congratulations (BUG: Drakconnect has blatantly not been able to configure
DHCP, where is the feedback on that)
-BUG: ok, I have two network interfaces "connected", where do I specify which
one I use for connecting to the internet in the wizard???
-Finish
-Click "Configure Hostname"
-Enter the DNS server and gateway (BUG: what i they are supplied by DHCP i.e.
linked to the previous bug, let teh user choose which interface is used to
connect to the internet)
-I enter the manual values - i know them
-Finish
-Click "Configure Internet Access"
-BUG: gateway, i just entered that, something better would be a list of
available devices and let the user choose, which one is used to connect to teh
internet
-Click Ok
-Click Ok again to exit Drakconnect (BUG: again, running DHCP and waiting for
timeout)

Now two situations: I am a newbie and I have no idea how to configure wireless
settings and I can't find any tool to do so -> I ditch MDK 9.2 and go back to
Windblows world.
I am me and i wat to support MDK, so I manually run iwconfig to set up the right
iwconfig parameters, ok, wireless is up, now i still need DHCP !! (BUG: where am
i meant to enter the wireless settings so they are saved ?? also, how about
multiple wireless profiles)

-Click on Drakconnect again
-BUG: eth1 has disappeared
-Relaunch the whole wizard with teh smae bugs :(
-BUG: although i specify I have a usbvnet_rfmd device, I cannot configure it
(Wizard only does eth0) :-(

It would be nice if this could be fixed, I'll check this bug regularly because
it really matters to me so I am willing to give as much info as possible.

I replaced depmod -A with:

This might need some finetuning (maybe the existence of modules.dep should be

Read the config line for the default kernel and change the acpi box accordingly then
If box is checked then remove all acpi=... statement and add acpi=on
If box is unchecked, remove all acpi=... statements and add acpi=off
I think this is the default expected behaviour

How do you want to be able to support Chinese and some other language
without using unicode?

The "Use unicode by default" check box is only to force UTF-8 when it
is not otherwise used; but when you choose languages that *require*
unicode for proper display and cohabitation, then UTF-8 is used regardless
of that value of the "Use unicode by default" option.

"It's not a bug it's a featuer" :)
It is the wanted and expected behaviour, when choosing two (or more) languages
using incompatible character sets, the only choices are to use unicode, or
to be unable to use those languages together.

In ~/.qt/qtrc do you have a section [General] with
XIMInputStyle = "Over The Spot"

(maybe DrakX doesn't create that file when creating a user?)

What do you call the "initial popup screen" ?
The display manager where you log in?
kdm (and mdkkdm) use the language defined in the global config
file /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc
So, you need to change the global language setting (launch localedrake
as root), not simply the user setting.

That is quite strange; I would have expected all Qt programs to behave
the same. (note that a connection with the XIM is done, but it seems
the typed flow gets lost)
If in qtrc the style is changed to "Over the Spot", then the input is possible,
but in blind mode (korean chars aren't seen while typing, only when you press
space).
Seems a kword specific bug.

That happens when the locale is not installed.
What is the output of "locale" ? (it should be ko_KR or ko_KR.UTF-8 for
Korean locale).
Is locales-ko installed ?

I don't have that problem; what version of kwrite ?

It sets korean as language... maybe it is because I have kde-i18n-ko and
not kde-i18n-ja ?
But anyway, it shouldn't.

No, it does nothing (it is only used by CJK version of rxvt).
the important thing is that localedrak wrote that XIM should be Over the Spot
in the ~/.qt/qtrc file (maybe libqt should be patched to make that value
the default)

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-05 15:10 ---
Nope, there is a bug.

What happened is that I unchecked the 'Automatic IP' (I use static addressing)
but the 'Get name from DHCP' checkbox remained ON and not modificable, and in
my opinion it shouldn't.

Since I needed to set my host name, I had to re-enable the 'Automatic IP'
checkbox, then uncheck the 'Get name' checkbox (now possible) and then
disable again the 'Automatic IP' checkbox. It's a bug, IMHO.

It's more difficult to describe it than to test it in practice.

[Cooker] swab.h ISO C warnings (plea for 9.2 testers)

2003-09-21 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Hi,

When using Mandrake 9.1 I ran into numerous warnings being produced by
gcc when compiling the snippet below with the following command line:
cc -I/usr/include/SDL -D_REENTRANT -Wall -pedantic-errors -Wno-long-long -g -O2 test.c
 -L/usr/lib -lSDL -lpthread -lSDL_net -o test

#include "SDL_net.h"

int main(void)
{
return 0;
}

Here are the errors produced:
In file included from /usr/include/linux/byteorder/little_endian.h:11,
 from /usr/include/asm/byteorder.h:32,
 from /usr/include/SDL/SDL_endian.h:60,

The problem arises because I like to compile all my programs with
-pedantic-errors to try and catch as much problems as possible. Unlike
other -Wall errors, it does not appear possible to just turn off forbids
braced-groups errors. I'm not in a position to test whether 9.2rc2 still
produces this behaviour so I'd like to ask someone who is to test
whether these errors are still produced (you will need the
libSDL_net1.2-devel package). If any one has a suggestion on how to hack
up swab.h to prevent this warning that will also be equally welcome.

[Cooker] [Bug 5867] [zapping] zapping doesn't display properly

http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5867

You should read other bug report better. I never told it was happening since
2.4.22-10, I even pointed 2.4.22-0.7mdk as a probable candidate. And xawtv
works only in overlay mode, just try grabdisplay mode.

You should also learn to indentify problems. Zapping works perfectly when acpi
is off, and output some precious error message when acpi is on:
I/O error #0 in decoding thread:
V4L/V4L2 VBI interface timeout

It is definitively a driver problem, meaning kernel-related, not
application-related.

nvidia ti4200, use us-cable and ntsc to get my channels. *Nothing* else works
and this does include the settings for other countries (which I wouldn't expect
to work, but you never know till you try, right?). I don't have gatos drivers
installed (don't think I need em) and I don't have xawtv installed either
(zapping works/looks better). This problem has existed from RC2 through to
current cooker. If someone would be able to provide me with a configuration from
9.0 (preferably) or 9.1 that uses us-cable and ntsc I'd be really great.

After modifying rc.sysinit, my system (PIII 650 @ 728 with SCSI disk) boots 15
seconds faster.

depmod is run every time the computer boots, while there is a "cache" in
modules.dep. If this file isn't outdated, there is no need to run depmod.
I replaced depmod -A with:

KRN=`uname -r`;if (( `find /lib/modules/$KRN/ -cnewer
/lib/modules/$KRN/modules.dep | wc -l` != 0 )); then depmod -A; fi

This might need some finetuning (maybe the existence of modules.dep should be
checked) but I think the idea is clear.

Trying to upgrade Mandrake 8.2 to latest Mandrake 9.2RC2

I ran the installation 3 times. It didn't ask me if i want to upgrade or just
install (it assumed i wanted to install). It didn't correctly find the mount
point of my existing partitions.

Then i tried this: i followed the install until i reached the partitionning
("partionnement" in french). Then I tell the install program where should every
partition be mounted. Next, i carefully tell him not to format anything. It
verified the partitions. I then rebooted and finaly, it worked! It detected
succesfully my existing installation and asked me if i wanted to upgrade or install

I'm now going to upgrade... :)

fix #2759

this is not a bug but maybe a cosmetics.

when using static ip configuration, NEEDHOSTNAME is of courset not set to
"yes".

drakconnect only check if NEEDHOSTNAME=no is not present in config files in
order to precheck the checkbox.

of course it ignore its value if ip is static.

it maybe better to check for this is not a bug.

when using static ip configuration, NEEDHOSTNAME is not set to "yes".

drakconnect only check if NEEDHOSTNAME=yes is present instead (which the above
patch do)

I am using a Speedtouch USB modem as the connection I wish to share.

When I re-check Internet Connection Sharing, I am told it is set up but
currently disabled. I try to enable it but it never does. No error message. It
simply always stays in a disabled state.

I had a similar problem with MDK 9.1 and resolved it by using an IPtables script

interface team, what do you think of that feature?

basically, we should just keep some sound-slot-XX <=> pci id in
/etc/sysconfig/harddrake2/hw.map and add a disable flag.
eg:
"0x 0x: disabled
0x4568 0x4654: sound-slot-XX"

we would have to load this in installer though in order to keep that setting.

does not seems hard to handle. should we add this to next release todo list?

After the hardware install when we have a summary of the hardware and a chance
to configure it, is it possible to include an option to disable a soundcard so that it
is
NOT used (no kernel modules loaded/etc.)

For instance, I have a system with a fairly lousy onboard sound device that cannot
be disabled in bios/hardware, I also have an add on card that I use (pci) It seems
that invariably the onboard device is chosen as the default. I've looked for ways to
disable it in the install process and have come up empty - the only solution I've
found is to modify modules.conf after an install.

[Cooker] [Bug 4690] [harddrake-ui] sound blaster live not taking the driver correctly

2003-09-21 Thread [kureckac]
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4690

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-21-09 22:18 ---
Well, I found out what the problem was with my sound card. Apparently Dell
deviates from the standard OEM spec for Sound Blaster Live! 5.1. The EMU10K1
drivers just don't work on it (yet). The problem has been around since the
Spring, and no one from Dell seems to care (though it's acknowledged on their
support page). There are commercial EMU10K1X drivers available from a third
party, but they cost $35 and the demo only works for 3 hours. Mandrake detects
the card as EMU10K1X, so I was hoping they had drivers for it, but apparently
it's just detection. They don't have the drivers or any equivalent. If there
is an open source equivalent someone can point me to, I'd be really happy.
Otherwise, I'm just going to try to swap the card with my old SB Live card and
that should hopefully work. Thanks everybody for all the help. I guess the
moral is that I should have listened to my conscience and not bought from a
major OEM.

[Cooker] VNC - just asking . .

2003-09-21 Thread Robert Fox
Two questions -

1) I know it's too late, but why do we have 1.2.7 version and not 1.2.9
of tightvnc?

2) What is the difference now between RealVNC and TightVNC (if any?)

Thx,

since RC1. So I can't confirm that the installation problem persists in the

I installed MDK 9.1 rc1 on a 1GHz Athlon with 512 MB RAM, an ATI r128 video
card, an ATI Wonder TV card, SBLive, PleXwriter 4832A, Toshiba DVD, and an
NCR53c810 scsi for my Mustek MCF 600S scanner. My printer is a Samsung ML-1210
laser jet.
All this hardware installed perfectly under MDK 8.2.

The mobo sound chip, AC97, is diabled with a jumper, and the PCI sound card,
SBLive is set to be active. A cable runs from the ATI Wonder TV to the SBLive
so that XawTV can pipe audio to the SBLive and hence to the speakers. Again,
ALL this worked perfectly under MDK 8.2.

When I attempt an install of the SBLive (Hey, why not an ICON for the sound
card?) it gives me the emu10K1 ALSA option, which I select. When I check the
modules that get loaded I notice that the AC97 mobo chip has about 6 devoted to
itself. When setting up sound in MDK 8.2 the AC97 chip was ignored, as it
should be.

Also, right after installing rc1 the first time, I noticed that the sound was
present when I ran KDE 3.1 under the root account, but not under the user
account. In MDK 8.2 the users were automatically given access to the sound. I
added my account to the audio group but that was not effective. So, I re-ran
the sound card configuration. When I check my user account I had no sound.
When I checked the root account it has NO sound either. So, I am going
backwards here. This is the first time in six years, since I began using Linux,
that I cannot get my sound going. The config files get overwritten by the MCC
scripts so no sense in changing them. Rock and a hard place.
MKD 9.1, like 9.0 is a step backward in dectection and setup when compared to 8.2.

Hello friends,

As you know, modifying the display position is not easy at the moment : you only
have xvidtune (as far as I know) which is a very old and primitive tool. Once
the settings are correct, the user has to manually copy and paste the modeline
in /etc/XF86Config-4. It is very complicated for most users. So what about
"revamping" xvidtune with GTK+ and incorporate it to XFdrake? It would be a nice
option to be able to graphically choose the display settings.

I hope you will find that's a good idea.

When booting 9.2 RC2 into rescue mode, and I go to console, this console is too
buggy to be usable. The shell looses the current directory (suddenly goes up a
few directories when I just press enter), a ls in the current directory returns
no files at all (and /mnt/etc/ really isn't empty when mounted), the first
character of a commandline is lost suddenly, after going to console the shell
remains in "no echo" mode, i.e. you can't see what you type till a "reset"
command, and sometimes the is not displayed and all lines are concatenated.

I had a similar problem with MDK 9.1 and resolved it by using an IPtables script
instead.

[Cooker] [Bug 5523] [drakxtools] diskdrake is not beos friendly

2003-09-21 Thread [guillaume.bedot]
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5523

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-21-09 21:53 ---
In /etc/fstab, i have tried to remove the line:
/dev/hda1 /mnt/beos befs defaults 0 0
And diskdrake restored the same setting (with befs).

That part of the bug is corrected.

But using diskdrake i can't mount the beos partition (though "mount /mnt/beos"
as root works), so i think there's still a problem, maybe with options used.
Diskdrake acts as the partition is mounted and displays unmount button (which
fails and stays as the partition isn't mounted).
But unmounting an already mounted partition with diskdrake is ok.

I get this in /var/log/messages :
diskdrake[10886]: isMounted=, real_mntpoint=, mntpoint=/mnt/beos
diskdrake[10886]: mounting hda1 on /mnt/beos as type befs, options defaults
diskdrake[10886]: skipping mounting befs partition

and finally, well, i have not installed cooker either from ftp nor rebuilt a cd
set since RC2... so i cannot say for the installation part for now.

Boot configuration can be done in drakboot after installation.

I have installed BeOS Max Edition v3 beta 2 for this test (maybe i should try
with BeOS 5 PE too ?).
Trying to create a mount point for the beos partition i get in fstab type "235"
instead of "befs". and the partition can't be mounted.

but the worst is when installing RC2 (i don't create a second bug because i
think it's a consequence of this one):
* first i am not proposed to set a mount point for this partition,
* then the installer tries to initialize it as ext3, and reports a error,
* i have to uncheck the said parttion for it not to be formated (!!),
* i have then to tell i do not want to set any mount point for it so i can
continue with the installation,
* and due to the error the installation window is no more set in the widget
(it's pretty difficult at the end of the install to see the summarry's content).

Fortunately, the installation could go to the end and the partition has not been
hurt:)

I know it doesn't concern many users, but that's a bug...

Guillaume.

PCIC=i82365(instead of PCIC=yenta_socket)
PCIC_OPTS=irq_mode=0

This configuration change had no effect, system uses yenta_socket instead of
i82365. Why???

My Specs:
AMD XP 2200+
MSI KT4 Ultra KT400/VT8235
512 MB DDR (333) RAM

"You have chosen GNOME for this session, but your default setting is kde. Do you wish

manually clear the "Select the font file or directory and click on 'Add'" text

A previous bug noted that if you didn't manually clear this field, the "Select
the font file or directory and click on 'Add'" text ended up concatenated to
your selection in the main drakfont dialog. This is probably a result of
whatever was done to correct that.

Maybe you should just put this text elsewhere on the dialog ??

so:

Using X server version 4.3

I choose to test the configuration.
I see the X server start up, and I am presented with the choice of saying whether or
not I
can see the message box that is on the screen. Everything looks normal, so I choose
Yes.
At this point, the screen becomes garbled. I can still almost make out what is on the
screen; everything has turned green and has several random lines through it. The
display
is repeated twice in the VMWare window. The bottom half of the VMWare window just
displays grey. I can move the mouse around, and as I move it over the buttons and
option boxes, they paint on the screen, but they are still slightly garbled.

If I continue installation anyway (I am only able to do this because of my familiarity
with
the Mandrake installer), everything returns to normal after the reboot.
