How is it that we are supposed to make boot disks in Cooker? I mean, you need 1.2
megs for the kernel image (even b2zipped), the bootloader, and the initrd.

That's not enough space in 1.44 megs. I tried it this past weekend while talking to
another person; the floppy just ran out of space.

your script are not very good to integreated in mdk distrib
but you can test this workaround to add this line on /etc/modules.conf

pre-install usb-storage /bin/sleep 2

External 1394 disks have 2 problems:

1)After the system has booted, one must rmmod all the 1394 modules and then
re-modprobe them to get the disk detected. This may be a problem to do with
PCMCIA 1394 cards.

2)If there are 2 external removable disks (in my case a 120GB Hard Disk over
1394, and a 1 GB microdrive over a USB Compact Flash reader), then depending on
the order in which these are plugged in, either could be /dev/sda or /dev/sdb.
This is not predicatable, so, one must distinguish between them before mounting!

The URL includes my script (1394mount) to fix the problem. It may not be ideal,
but it does work OK for me :-)

During the expert install process the keyboard and mouse will stop functioning.

I have a AMD Athlon XP System, with a VIA KT266A chipset which supports USB 1.0/1.1

I am using a USB Keyboard (Logitech Internet Navigator) and a USB Mouse
(Microsoft Intellimouse Optical USB).

I have chosen an expert install, English (British), USB mouse and UK Keyboard.

The crash can and has happened at any point in the install. Looking at the logs
after shutting down the X-server :

usb-uhci.c: interrupt, status 2, frame #1694
<4>usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout (of which there are several)

I can usually continue installation by unplugging my USB keyboard and plugging
it into the PS/2 port using an adapter - which I guess proves that USB dies. My
mouse will not work however as I can't find the adapter ;)

The timeout however above might be resulting in me unplugging the keyboard and
sticking in the PS/2, of which I am not sure.

The USB keyboard works fine with the text install oddly enough. However, the
mouse is not used in this case.

Perhaps it is bug in the kernel or the graphical installation, I am not sure.

If I make it to the end of the install, and reboot, the USB keyboard/mouse work
fine in the running linux system.

I have noticed that USB devices also fail often when I goto the Mandrake Control
Centre and do any kind of device detection.

This has been a problem since Mandrake Linux 9.0/9.1 as well.

Do you have acpi=on or no acpi option in kernel parametters ?
After that could you have a /proc/acpi directory on your system.
If not your system is not supported (blacklisted) or acpi is disable in
bios ?

send me back full dmesg please.

Text install don't set the vga=788 at install boot time, so vga is not set in
lilo.conf, and your system reboot.

Note that your problem is very specific 1Go of mem and strange bios that not
correctly report memsize so framebuffer is corrupt

Your can verify/edit your lilo.conf at install time (there are a shell

The system load gets up to 100%. After removing the card, the system load
returns to normal.

I've also tested this with another lucent card using firmware 6.16: same as above.

Hi,

When installing Mandrake 9.1 RC1 on a computer with 1024MB (1 gig) of memory
after the initial "install screen" the computer just dies and the caps lock and
scroll lock start blinking. This is a showstopper for the installation!

Tried on 2 setups: P4 2.5 with ati 9700 Asus p4pe and AMD 2000+ with nvidia
ti4600 Asus a7v8x. Both motherboards (after previous failure) flashed with the
newest (beta) Bios -> Same problem.
Same setup with 512 MB works just fine.

Please try noapic option at boot time, so :
When you boot from cd press the key and type "linux noapic" in the
prompt

If this workaround fix your problem please install your system and
lm_sensors package,
- send me the result of dmidecode (run it as root)
- add noapic in append section of the /etc/lilo.conf (don't forget to
run lilo after)

I have just installed Mandrake 9.1 rc1, and my Logitech Mx500 is not detected.
When I use the PS2 adaptator, the mouse is well recognize, but with the USB
plug, the mouse doesn't work neither in the installation program, nor in Xfree.
