[Cooker] [Bug 4377] [mdkkdm] after clicking reboot mdkkdm shows empty list of lilo entries
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4377 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-23-09 07:34 --- this problem seems to be fixed in version 9.2-9mdk. -- Configure bugmail: http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: NEW creation_date: description: I can reproduce this with 100% on a laptop, where I'm using mdkkdm and LILO: 1) Boot Linux 2) Wait for dm to start 3) Click 'Reboot' And empty list of lilo entries shows up, so I cannot reboot. When I login from text console as root and restart dm: # /etc/init.d/dm restart , then the list is there when I click 'Reboot'. It seems that this is some sort of race condition - mdkkdm receives an empty listing from lilo because it starts too early in the process of booting services. When I change the chkconfig line in the startup script in /etc/init.d/dm from this: # chkconfig: 5 30 09 to this: # chkconfig: 5 98 09 , then mdkkdm starts later after most services and after rebooting the list of LILO entries is OK. So the workaround is to delay the startup of dm service. However, there should be some failover code in mdkkdm to allow the user not select any entry nad still reboot the machine. My suggestion: change the mdkkdm code so that when: 1) the user is on the list of bootmanager entries (after clicking 'Reboot'), 2) no entry is selected, 3) he clicks on the 'Ok' button then the ordinary, parameterless reboot is executed (as with CTRL-ALT-DELETE, "shutdown -r", "reboot" or "init 6"). Currently clicking on 'Ok' causes no action when there's no bootmanager entry selected, and if the list of entries is empty, reboot is impossible.

He lives in the contribs package linux_logo -chuck No, I think he refers to the bootsplash logo that remains visible, when the boot process is finished and which can be seen on all virtual consoles as a transparent background image. AFAIK this is handled by the bootsplash scripts that modify /etc/sysconfig/bootsplash. Unfortunately my penguin went away as well and up to now I've not managed to get it back. exactly, that's the one i mean. Maybe Olivier Blin can add it back to the "Linux" bootsplash theme. The default theme should now have a very faint "9.2" in the bottom right corner. that would be great! andreas

[Cooker] ML9.0 installation fails on step 'Hard drive detection' (WDC WD800AB-00CBA1)
hi, the installation of ML9.0 on a new PC hangs on the step "Hard drive detection --> starting step 'setupSCSI'" with no error messages. The harddisk is a Western Digital WDC WD800AB-00CBA1. I can install Suse Linux, but only with the kernel parameters: ide=nodma apm=off acpi=off With ML these parameters didn't help. noapic didn't help either. Can anybody help? Thanks! Andreas
[Cooker] draksound won't load a new driver for a second soundcard - ML9.0
as i couldn't turn off my broken onboard soundchip in BIOS i had to add a new second soundcard. harddrake recognised it at once with the right driver, but sounddrake didn't show me the new sounddriver for configuration. so i had to add it by hand in the /etc/modules.conf like: ... alias sound-slot-0 snd-emu10k1 above snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm-oss ... and only after that draksound presented me the drivers for both soundcards for configuration. regards, andreas

Title: RE: [Cooker] Re: [FUN] 3c589 I got a wild idea last night, and dug into the BIOS. It turns out that my "Plug and Play aware Operating System" parameter had been turned off. This ties into the same problem I had (mailed earlier too but didn't know if it got to the list...), you can't select pcmcia cards for network interfaces at the initial install, so they aren't configured either. After running "netconfig" the card was detected and working, but the pcmcia startup had to be moved ahead of the network startup. (moved from S45 to S09) Not having the card availible during the initial config also made it impossible to download ssh/openssl packages during the install. -dws

Title: RE: [FUN] 3c589 Pixel, A 3c589 is a PCMCIA Ethernet card from 3Com that can either use 10BaseT or 10Base2. I don't know what kind of module (I'm relatively new to linux) but I was able to install it on both versions of RedHat. It doesn't show up on the list of cards when trying to install networking in the graphical install of Mandrake 7.0, and it's not showing up on the supported hardware list on the mandrake site. If it'll help, I'd be happy to re-install RedHat 5.2 or 6.0, then look for whatever modules you need me to look for. Thanks!
