[Cooker] Still not able to shut down pcmcia.

2003-08-26 Thread Christian Dysthe
Hi,

I have been struggling with all the 2.4.22 kernels since I am not able
to shut down pcmcia. This means I need to hard reset my laptop every
time I want to turn it off. I have filed a bug, but now I have been
able to get some messages out my logs from this event:

Aug 25 22:09:12 acerlap kernel: orinoco_lock() called with hw_unavailable
(dev=ca794800)
Aug 25 22:09:12 acerlap /etc/hotplug/net.agent: NET unregister event not supported
Aug 25 22:09:23 acerlap kernel: unregister_netdevice: waiting for eth1 to become free.
Usage count = 2

The last line is repeated until I pull the plug.

I use pcmcia for a wireless card (which comes up and works fine). I
have tried with two different cards, but both uses the orinioco driver
and the result is the same.

Does anyone have any where I could start to look for clues?

Well, AFAIK, it's not limited to wireless cards (it happened on my
laptop with a PCMCIA 100MB NIC), it didn't happen in 2.4.21-6mdk
(which I am running currently after doing an install of beta2).

I only have PCMCIA wireless cards, so I am not able to try anything
else, but I do not think it has to do with the card. I think it's
pcmcia_cs and/or the kernel. It does not happen when I run my old
2.4.21-25 kernel.

Re: [Cooker] Wireless car intialization failed : ifplugd stops

2003-08-21 Thread Christian Dysthe
Hi,

I would just like to confirm that I have the exact same two problems
with my wireless connection. I have even tried with two different
wireless cards. It makes no difference. I do not run KDE, but the
problems are exactly the same: The connection dies as soon I log into
my WM (Pekwm). I have to restart the network services. And when I try
to halt the machine the wireless connection won't die without a hard
reset of the laptop. The connection itself works fine. I booted my old
2.4.21 kernel from 9.1 and these problems are gone. The problems are
present in all 2.4.22 kernels I have tried with Cooker.

[Cooker] Pekwm in Cooker?

does anyone know about any plans having Pekwm included in Cooker, and
ultimately in Mandrake Stable? This WM is, in my opinion, the best
of all worlds with legacy functionality coupled with a modern
outlook.

[Cooker] Trouble shutting down cleanly.

2003-08-14 Thread Christian Dysthe
Hi,

I am running the latest 2.4.22 kernel from cooker. When i shut down I
get this:

Turning off swap:
Unmounting file systems:
umount2: Device or resource busy
umount: /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1: not mounted
umount: /: Illegal seek
mount: / is busy
Halting system
unregister_netdevice: waiting for eth1 to become free. Usage count = 2

The last line is repeated indefinitely. I have to cut the power on the
machine to halt it. I tried to boot with the latest kernel from 9.1,
No problems like this. I have also noticed an error message when I
boot. It's the first message after LILO, something about an IDE driver
and swsup or something like that.

I am running Reiserfs and use a pcmcia wireless network card (works
fine but may be the netdevice not shutting down).

Ideas?

[Cooker] Wireless connection lost after boot.

2003-08-14 Thread Christian Dysthe
Hi,

when I boot my wireless card eth1 (and built in network card eepro100
on eth0) come up correctly. However, a few seconds after I am logged
into my wm the connection is lost again. I have to restart the network
service to have it come up again. I am able to connect to the Internet
for about 5 sec before the connection is lost. I have tried with two
different wireless cards, same problem with both of them. It's also
strange that DrakConnect detects the card as a Tekram card when it
actually is a Linksys WPC11. It works fine though, and a cardctl
ident detects it as as what it is.

I am running full Cooker with all the packages from today and the
2.4.22 kernel.

I thought I would get away with not having to run that kernel one more

reset the machine, but I did and this is the the error messages:

ide: late registration of driver.
Swsusp 1.0.3: Missing or invalid swap partition location (resume=
parameter). Disabled.

This is the two first messages showing up in the graphical boot
window. It's not the first in my dmesg though. These two error
messages are not present when I boot the 2.4.21 kernels.

Try to shutdown your network first,
 then shutdown the computer.
If it works, it's network driver that has problems...

I tried to shut down the network. No problem. But the pcmcia service
won't shut down. I guess that's the problem? It just hangs there doing
nothing. I tried to reboot without pcmcia enabled without problems.

wich brings me to the next question...
what wireless network card / driver are you using?

I tried with two different wireless network cards:
Linksys WPC11 and a Proxim RangeLAN-DS. They both use the orinoco_cs
driver. Another oddity is that when I boot the machine I have to
restart the network for the wireless card to connect. I didn't have to
do that in stock 9.1 It also shows up as a Tekram card in the
graphical boot window. However if I do a cardctl ident after boot it
shows up as what it is: A Linksys WPC11 card.

If it don't, try to shutdown network / pcmcia, and unplug
 your card, then shutdown...

 Does it work?

Nope, the pcmcia service won't shut down.

Hi,

I am running Cooker with all the latest updates as of today with the
2.4.22 kernel. When I shut down the pcmcia service won't die and I am
left with tons of:

unregister_netdevice: waiting for eth1 to become free. Usage count = 2

I have to hard reset the laptop.

I am not able to shut down pcmcia manually either. If I try it just
hangs. I have two network devices. One is the built in Intel eepro 100
card, the other a wireles Linksys WPC11 card. I tried with another wireless
card also, a Proxim card. If I boot a 2.4.21 kernel the problem goes
away. Another oddity is that Mandrake detects the Linksys card as a
Tekram AIR.mate PCF 200 Wireless LAN card. Doing a cardctl ident
detects the card for what it is though. Both cards I tried works fine
though.

I use reiserfs.

[Cooker] Two disk related error messages booting 2.4.22

2003-08-14 Thread Christian Dysthe
Hi,

I am running a daily updated Cooker. I get these two error messages
when I boot (it's the two first lines in Mandrakes graphical boot
screen):

ide: late registration of driver.
Swsusp 1.0.3: Missing or invalid swap partition location (resume=parameter). Disabled.

I think the second on may have to do with some new suspend to disk
stuff. Apm doesn't work for me anymore like it did in 9.1. Resume
now freezes the machine, while it worked fine in 9.1

Does anyone know what there error messages might mean?
