[Cooker] Acer Aspire USB support

2000-10-22 Thread Clay Haapala

7.2B3 installed on an Acer Aspire doesn't recognize the Acer USB
devices,
and so loses the USB keyboard and mouse. The mouse has never worked in
7.1, but the keyboard worked in the old mode. I lose the keyboard now
right after the USB system is initialized.

[Cooker] 32-bit UID support

2000-10-05 Thread Clay Haapala

I'm interested in 32-bit UID support, and a 'find' in the Cooker
archives didn't turn up anything for me.

I understand that 32-bit UID support (useful in very large organizations
like universities and companies as large as Cisco) will be part of the
2.4 kernel. There are patches for 2.2.16 and glibc now, though, that
are compatible with what will be in 2.4. What is the state of 32-bit
UID support in Mandrake 7.2?

RPMS that are compatible with RedHat 6.1 or 6.2 are available from URL
below, based on the excellent work of Chris Wing:
http://eltopo.engin.umich.edu/caenlinux/6.1/i386/RedHat/RPMS/
These allow high-numbered UID/GIDs and work with NIS that already has
such UIDs. One can also switch between a 2.4 kernel and 2.2.16 with the
glibc appropriately patched. (glibc is already 32-bit compliant -- I
guess any patches are minor). There are issues with older libc5
binaries.

If Mandrake 7.2 is to go out with a 2.2 kernel, it would be VERY nice,
IMHO, if it had 32-bit UID support already.

Is it already in the works? Should I leap in and patch 2.2.17, glibc,
etc?
Comments and direction welcome.

[Cooker] Reiser FS vs. 32-bit UIDs

2000-10-05 Thread Clay Haapala

A scan of Reiser FS documentation on the web tells me that, similar to
glibc, ReiserFS is ready for 32-bit UIDs. Anybody have experience with
that?

Does the hackkernel-2.4 on the Beta-3 image support ReiserFS?
Truth-to-tell, I could not get hackkernel-2.4 running, but I have not
been able to spend much time on it. It dies for me with a panic in the
boot sequence. I'm sure there is an FAQ for me to read on this
somewhere
