[Cooker] openldap-2.0.21-1mdk not working : pb in schema files

2002-01-25 Thread Frederic Corne

I have a working openldap-2.0.19-1mdk and I upgarded today to 2.0.21-1
Here are the problemes :

1) typo (?) in usr/share/openldap/schema/misc.schema :
(last line) mailRoutingAddr instead of mailRoutingAddress

2)/usr/share/openldap/schema/nadf.schema is missing

I copied the one from 2.0.19
and there are an error : AttributeType not found: lastModifiedTime
I found that it is an obsolete attribute of cosine.schema
Now it is modifyTimestamp

I replaced lastModifiedTime by modifyTimestamp in nadf.schema
and the server works now.

But , indeed, it is better to get the official misc.schema and
nadf.schema . It seems there was a lot of changes in schema files
between 2.0.19 and 2.0.21

[Cooker] openldap-2.0.xx annoying startup messages

2002-01-25 Thread Frederic Corne

(It is not a bug )

with all versions there are annoying startup messages :
# /etc/init.d/ldap start
ldaps

To generate a self-signed certificate, you can use the utility
/usr/share/openldap/gencert.sh ... To convert a gdbm DB to a ldif file,
you can use
the utility /usr/sbin/slapcat-gdbm (actually openldap use
Berkeley DB 3.x)...Starting slapd (ldap + ldaps): [ OK ]
#

it is in /etc/init.d/ldap after the test of the existence of a certificate :

gprintf \n To generate a self-signed certificate, you can use\n
  gprintf the utility /usr/share/openldap/gencert.sh ...\n\n

  if ls /var/lib/ldap/*.gdbm  /dev/null 2/dev/null || :  ; then

It would be really nice if some script to merge old and new one existed.

Yes, using diff and patch with newer version can make the life easier and the
 upgrade more accurate ?

A good features that should be done.

But very very dangerous.
Only an option, not the default.
Something as rpm -Uvh --merge-conf-files
And in any case make a copy of the old files.

[Cooker] Results on a minimal installation

2002-01-22 Thread Frederic Corne

target : installation of a basic system + iptables + openssh server and
clients.

it is on a vmware image (v2.0.4-1142) for a french keyboard.
install by nfs
VERSION :
Mandrake Linux Cooker-i586 20020121 23:19

using network.img

- graphical install don't works, using text install (mode expert)

- select base system + iptables + openssh server and clients

- when installing packages :
-lot of perl complains about locales (means locales-fr is not
installed)
 - ask for installing locales-et-2.3.1.2-6mdk.i586 ? why an
error of myself when selecting ? I don't known.?
 - (off topic) : when add user, ask for Real name , User name,
... I think user name may trouble someone . login name or user
login name may be better.
 - list of services started at boot time (see services.jpg): I don't
understood why there is an alsa, kudzu, sound, usb, nfslock and not sshd !

reboot .
  - space used : 104Mo but :
very important : locales-fr is not installed !!!
iptables and openssh stuff are not installed !
urpmi is not installed

(installing of urpmi is tedious ! :
error: failed dependencies:
 eject is needed by urpmi-3.2-2mdk
 webfetch is needed by urpmi-3.2-2mdk
 perl-DateManip = 5.40 is needed by urpmi-3.2-2mdk
 perl-gettext is needed by urpmi-3.2-2mdk
 rpmtools = 4.0-5mdk is needed by urpmi-3.2-2mdk

after 1h30 of divers hacks I have a correct system which use 120Mo

No I have instaled mdk 7.2 , 8.0 on vmware, *from* cdrom without

A mac client can connect to the netatalk server but only if i give the

Good !

distribution.

Now I have another question. I installed a G3 upgarde card running at
440MHz. However, the console screen shows the CPU is 195MHz PowerPC

 bogomips : 878.18

seems correct to me for 440Mhz

195Mhz gives about 200-300 bogomips

 Can you try fbset?

1stfbset just the command and note the current mode.

# fbset

mode 640x480-66
 # D: 29.999 MHz, H: 34.720 kHz, V: 66.134 Hz
 geometry 640 480 640 1638 16
 timings 5 80 80 39 3 64 3
 rgba 5/10,5/5,5/0,0/0
endmode

Then try to set it to the same setting X is trying to use:

 fbset 1024x768-75

very good aspect of the consoles.

fbset

mode 1024x768-75
 # D: 78.746 MHz, H: 60.020 kHz, V: 75.025 Hz
 geometry 1024 768 1024 768 8
 timings 12699 176 16 28 1 96 3
 hsync high
 vsync high
 rgba 8/0,8/0,8/0,0/0
endmode

then I do
Xautoconfig3
Xautoconfig4

startx
bad blue-grey screen...
I kill it with control-command-backspace

then I see that it was the xpmac server
(XFree86-Xpmac-3.3.6-2mdk)
Running in mode 0, depth=32;req mode 17 depth=32
(...)

If I try with a XFree86 server (XFree86-server-4.0.3-7.1mdk)
the server crash and here in attachment is the log.

Thanks you a lot for your help

send us output of:

OK, it's the Apple Control video device. Does Xpmac work?

No in all cases.
I get a blue-grey screen totaly weird.

Also have you tried using Xautoconfig?

This would be a good card for me to get info on, as we have nothing in the
installer right now to accomodate this card.

It is the standard power mac in 1996. A lot of linux ppc developpers
started coding with it. Paul MacKerras for example. But they have now G3
or G4. I am unable to found a config file on the net.

This is a good machine to do a server/firewall/...(good scsi, multiple
pci slots,...) so X is not absolutely necessary but it is always better :-)

Also, have you experimented with passing and video= kernel arguments or
 checking/unchecking NoVideo in BootX?

same results

yes fbset works. the consoles are correct.

I have also tryed :

still hangs at the same place. worse off than i was with the mandrake

i've been thinking about moving /boot over to the ide drive. is this all i
would have to do (besides telling bootx where to boot from) to bypass this
whole scsi issue? that way i could tell if it's really a scsi issue or
 something else with my machine.

Have you tried kernel 2.4.10-ben0 from ppckernel.org (benh-devel). it
works nicely for me on my full scsi PM 7500 (2 scsi disks: 1GO macOS +
3,2GO Linux)

Have you tried any other 2.4 series kernels (benH for instance)? There is
another user with an OldWorld machine having considerable trouble with 2.4

I just downloaded 2.4.10-ben0 from ppckernel.org and tried it.
It works ! At least the non-graphics apps (because I have another pb
with X).

Now I have a very old box with the most recent linux kernel, and a work
box (1000Mhz PIII) with a 2.4.3 :-)
