[Cooker] BETA 2, audio anomalies

2001-08-30 Thread Larry Braden

The new BETA 2 is a very smooth install.

However, had to do an expert install to get my SiS 300 card installed.

Perhaps choosing X version should be a choice in Recommended install as
well.

Also, KDE audio server is not working but the Gnome audio *is* working.
Does running soundcfg mess up the KDE audio?

Also, when running harddrake, display is tested with garbage at the top
of the screen and system lockup--could not even ctrl-alt-F1. This could
be because of limitation of my video card or monitor, or maybe some
other reason.

Found and configured Zip 250 drive on parallel port at first boot time.
This made printer installation work after boot, also, since the printer
is on the other side of the zip drive. So far, very good.

Very good work. Almost ready to stick a fork in to see if it's done.

[Cooker] zip drive not configured

2001-08-20 Thread Larry Braden

Hello,

Just a note.

The 8.1 beta did not install my zip250, ie. create a mount.

I suppose could be a number of reasons.

Re: [Cooker] KDE 2.2 update for Mdk 8.0

2001-08-17 Thread Larry Braden

Any chance you know why Sunet.se's Cooker files keep appearing and
disappearing? Each time I tried fmirroring them, it was like I flipped
a toggle. I even checked dates/times/versions of the files that would
be downloaded and then deleted on the next run and then downloaded again
 on the third.

Hey Digital,

I've noticed the same thing about sunet.se ftp site. I think the files are
locked against download, possibly until there is confirmation that there's an
official release. I think this is done by hand, so they'll be available
eventually. Probably they got into trouble sometime back for releasing some
files too soon, or some such. This is all just my speculation, and my policy
has always been to let the ftp admins do what they want, and appreciate the
fact that I'm allowed to be guest.

Best wishes,

[Cooker] KDE audio

2001-08-15 Thread Larry Braden

I installed and uninstalled Freq3 yesterday.

The KDE audio server was giving messages out repeatedly that it and ARTS
did not recognized /usr/share/sound as a format.

Re: [Cooker] trouble with CDROM on Mandrakefr 8.0

2001-07-21 Thread Larry Braden

Hello all,

My CD drive is an atapi Acer 40x and a Creative CDRW being scsi
emulated. When I boot with a cd in the drive I can access it from
terminal. If I change CDs can't access it either as root or a user.
Using the software manager, I can't access cdroms so I am not able to
add or update packages that require cdaccess. Neither can I access
/mnt/zip as root or user. Seems to be supermount. Thanks all.

Re: [Cooker] Latin-american keyboard and MDK 8.0

2001-04-23 Thread Larry Braden

I am getting another problem. Using Gnome, I can't type the 'r' key or the
'R' key. However, in KDE I can. I'm without a clue right now.

There is a problem with the new Mandrake 8 when you select an install with
a latin-american keyboard layout. The AltGr key (the right side Alt) +
another key doesn't work. For example, you can't type the @ symbol (AltGr
 + q).

The installer puts a Xmodmap file in /etc/X11/xinit for the latin-american
keyboard layout, but by default it's not parsed. Looking around I found
that changing the following line in /etc/sysconfig/i18n correct the
 problem:

 in /etc/sysconfig/i18n:
 XKB_IN_USE=no

 to

 XKB_IN_USE=yes

With this, the script /etc/X11/xinit/fixkeyboard parse the Xmodmap file,
 and the keyboard works perfectly.
