[Cooker] python -- test_sax failed
Recent cooker package (python-2.2.2-2mdk), built on 9.0, gave (with make test): 177 tests OK. 1 test failed: test_sax I wonder, if this is also the case for building on cooker? The attached patch file removes the failed tests in test_sax. Remarkably, these tests are also removed in CVS head of python. Ralf. Python-2.2.2-test_sax.patch.bz2 Description: BZip2 compressed data
[Cooker] python 2.2.2 ?
Hi! The python release 2.2.2 is out since about a month. Please update it! I took 2.2.1-13mdk spec file (a while ago), the only small change was (besides update to python and html-2.2.2.tar.bz2), that you have to remove from python-2.2-base.list the line: %{_libdir}/python2.2/lib-dynload/errnomodule.so because it's now statically linked by default. I haven't yet tried the new patches (-mdk14/15), admittedly. Ralf.

From my point of view this holds true not only for such questions as above, but generally. I posted some bugs during the beta/rc period of 8.2. Regarding those bugs which I was the only one who committed - okay, not many, perhaps only one or two - I got no response at all. I had to wait for a new package each day, looking changelogs, when it was changed. I often saw better examples of reactions of package maintainers/developers. Don't understand me wrong. Glxgears runs at around 500fbs, I can play tuxracer, and except for the damn libpng error again I could play chromium. Of note could be that I am running without fb. Now running a custom kernel build from 2.4.17-18mdk _without_ CONFIG_FB_VESA and aty128 module is not loaded, hence without fb. The above mentioned kdm problem still exists, but sometimes the background is drawn. glxgears is still running fast as expected... The problem with the OpenGL prog vmd is gone!! Stability pb will be reported, until now everything is ok. Charles

[omitting to much OT] If you decide to use it e.g. to include pdf-files or metapost, you should use newer versions, the last one is 1.00a. Have a look at ftp://ftp.muni.cz/pub/tex/local/cstug/thanh/pdftex/snapshots/20010806 For an update script see further below. [Cooker] urpmi kde 23 mixture
I've got now a ~ 1 month old cooker installation. Now I decided to update some kde-2.2.2 packages via urpmi, basically 'urpmi kdelibs' or 'urpmi kdelibs-2.2.2'. But urpmi chooses also libqt3, kdelibs-3.0beta, libarts3 among other 2.2.2 packages. So maybe you have to unscramble some dependencies.

It's because: a) there's no such thing as main, contrib, whatever for urpmX all packet sources are alike b) naturally foobar-3.0 is a successor of foobar-2.2 - so kdelibs-3.0beta would be naturally an up{date|grade} to kdelibs-2.2 Why are those packages named this way after all? What about versioning? what about: kdebase3.0-3.0.0-0.1mdk kdebase-devel3.0-3.0.0-0.1mdk ... just like in gcc/gcc3.0 ... then such things would not happen. On the other hand, it might not be useful to versionate KDE as it makes no sense to install two or more versions along - alas update-alternatives is used propperly .. Christian Oh, yes. The problem is, that mount does not trigger a new lookup for the drive partitioning. When you lookup .../part4 and it is not found and directory has non-zero removables count it initiates rescan for parition information. That is theory :-) The bug in ide-floppy was that with empty drive *nothing* ever was registered, and for this reason lookup of .../part4 never triggered partition revalidation. The person who reported this bug also reported that it was fixed by above mentioned patch. I do not have any ide-floppy devices to test it now. You may want to look on lkml (about two days ago) for a ide-floppy patch from driver maintainer. It does it slightly differently. May be it works better. Or I can send it to you (I guess I have not yet deleted it :-) I found the patch and will give it a try. Thanx! -andrej In theory praxis and theory are the same. In praxis they are different.

[Cooker] ZIP devfs
I tried to reanimate (once again) my zip drive when booting with 'devfs=mount'. The problem with the current configuration is the missing of part4 dev node. It is only automatically generated when a ZIP media is inserted during boot. I found a working solution for my setup which I believe could easily extended to a general one. The trick is that part4 is created when the disc node is touched (and of course a disc was inserted before). ** devfsd.conf: LOOKUP ^zip$ EXECUTE touch ide/host0/bus1/target0/lun0/disc LOOKUP ^ide/host0/bus1/target0/lun0/part4$ EXECUTE touch ide/host0/bus1/target0/lun0/disc REGISTER^ide/host0/bus1/target0/lun0/part4$ CFUNCTION GLOBAL symlink ide/host0/bus1/target0/lun0/part4 zip UNREGISTER ^ide/host0/bus1/target0/lun0/part4$ CFUNCTION GLOBAL unlink zip # find ZIP host: cat /proc/ide/hd*/model | awk '/ZIP/ {print NR}' #(result: 2) # but touch does not work with /dev/ide/hd/c2b0t0u0 # CFUNCTION GLOBAL stat ? **

Re: [Cooker] unable to rebuild kdebase-2.2-10mdk -- man rpm
U have just to rpm -ba --short-circuit kdebase.spec ;) Forget my previous mail concerning --short-circuit. But maybe someone can correct manpage of rpm ;-) --short-circuit Skip straight to specified stage (ie, skip all stages leading up to the specified stage). Only valid with -bc and -bi. Ralf.

BTW: I found in the release notes of mozilla 0.9.1: If you are installing Mozilla on a multi-user operating system such as Linux, Unix, or Windows 2000, you should install it separately in the user directory of each user who plans to use Mozilla. (Bug 42184) If you install Mozilla in a shared write-protected directory, it may not run properly. I think they already know about these ownership problems. Ralf.

Alexander Skwar BTW: I remember that someone was complaining about the initrd.img link (months ago), when you have got a boot _partition_. And the problem persists. When I install a new kernel, I got the link in boot, say, initrd.img - /boot/initrd-2.4.5-6mdk.img The grub entry is correct: initrd (hd0,6)/initrd.img, but the link should be a relative path (initrd.img - initrd-2.4.5-6mdk.img). Fwd: [Cooker] swat is not working
FYI: swat is working with xinetd-2.1.8.9pre14 (Mdk 8.0) and with 2.1.8.9pre15-1.1 _without_ patch1 from spec (not compiling ipv6). samba-2.2.1-9 : swat is not working (netstat says that it is listening, but connection is broken) Any suggestions?
[Cooker] new gnu ghostscript
Gnu ghostscript version 6.51 is out. (Sorry, only info, not a package - I had a look at the old src.rpm's, there are so many patches, I have no time to find the remaining necessary patches.) Ralf.

[Cooker] XFree86 4.1.0 on 8.0: pb with 3D (r128)
Hallo, I compiled XFree86-4.1.0-1 on a Mdk 8.0 machine. Animated OpenGL scenes show strange flickering (tried some Mesa-demos, KDE screensaver and VMD). Strange - XFree 4.0.3 was quite okay (but a bit slow). Updating to the latest Mesa and kernel cooker packages did not improve 3D, and no luck with the 'stock' cooker XFree86-4.1.0. glxinfo: ... OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Rage128 20010405 AGP 2x x86/MMX OpenGL version string: 1.2 Mesa 3.4.2 ... (tried also AGP 1x). Does anybody else has got this error? Does anybody know if it is better to use the kernel modules from dri.sourceforge.net? Ralf.
