[Cooker] Radeon 9700
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi, Mandrake 9.0 RC3 (applies to both the original RC3 and the *ahem* updated RC3 images on the mirrors dated 23rd September) does not allow me to enter a graphical install while my ATI Radeon 9700 adapter is installed. If I choose either 'expert', 'vgalo' or 'normal', the screen blanks and my Caps Lock and Scroll Lock LEDs flash simultaneously at 1-second intervals. My machine has effectively locked up at this point, only the button marked 'Reset' and the power switch give any kind of a response. However, choosing a 'text' install allows me to proceed to the text-based installer. The media is okay - I have read the contents via 'dd' back into image files and the md5sums match what I downloaded (which matched the md5sums from the mirror which I downloaded from). This is probably a kernel framebuffer issue and AFAIK, XFree86 4.2.1 doesn't yet support the Radeon 9700. Although according to ATI's website, all recent Linux distros support their currently shipping hardware (Mandrake is mentioned by name). You don't get more recent than the upcoming Mandrake Linux 9.0 and their 'currently shipping' Radeon 9700 Pro. Cooker users beware - if you are considering on upgrading to a Radeon 9700 Pro, wait until ATI have produced some decent drivers or a suitable driver is included with XFree86. Yes, however IPv6 is not widely used yet. True - but if applications can be patched for IPv6 support without affecting their stability or functionality - surely this is something which should be done now rather than later ? 2:) Is anybody else working on this ? - if not, I would be happy to volunteer for the job :) I checked more or less than IPv6 works with the initscript before each release. That wasn't what I meant. I know that the IPv6 networking code is compiled as a module and has worked on every release of Mandrake Linux that I have ever tried it with. My offer was to plough through the KAME patch repository and the PLD patch repository, integrate those patches into the appropriate Cooker SRPMS and extensively test those packages before submitting my changes to the package maintainer where they can be further tested by other Cooker users. [Cooker] IPv6 Patches
Hi, I use IPv6 exclusively on my home network and have installed PLD Linux (http://www.pld.org.pl/) on one of my spare machines as it makes many claims about extensive IPv6 support. These claims are very much justified. Applications such as wget, apache, lynx, proftpd and many others which are also found in Mandrake Linux all support connectivity to both native IPv6 and IPv4 hosts. I have successfully 'migrated' some of the IPv6-enabling patches used by PLD into the Mandrake SRPM packages and are using these packages in a production environment with good results. Therefore, I have two questions: 1:) Is Mandrakesoft interested in achieving a greater degree of IPv6 compliance in both Mandrake Cooker and the next release version of Mandrake Linux ? 2:) Is anybody else working on this ? - if not, I would be happy to volunteer for the job :) I understand that a lot of these patches are not well tested and not entirely suitable for the default build of a package which would be included in a release version of Mandrake. However, I see no reason why any patches couldn't be integrated with the associated SRPM and the specfile modified to allow the user to rebuild it using a command line similar to 'rpm --rebuild --with ipv6 package.src.rpm'. Does anybody have any thoughts on the matter ?
