[Cooker] Firewire improvement request...
Hi , I would like to use only linux and only linux (not windows XP like now) . One of the big problem is simplicity why when I plug on my Firewire I doesn't got like on widows xp a windows with all related programs / action . worst , I've seen on ie1324.org there is a possibility to do that . It would be a great feature , but not only for firwire , also for usb , cd insertion etc... Please do it , I think it will be great for desktop user thanks . If someone now what is the best application to do what I'm doing now with movie maker 2 , thanks Meir Faraj , Imagine earning an income that didn't depend exclusively on your own efforts... that continues even if you're not working every day. Imagine being able to wake up in the morning and spontaneously decide to take the day off and play golf, or go the beach with your family, attend your children's activities, etc., and not lose any income because of it. Imagine being able to have and do all the things you want to do. Imagine getting paid for helping others achieve the same. Take a couple of minutes, right now, to visit my website at www.work-from.net and learn how our System can help you achieve your dreams.

I personnaly prefer to click on a rpm and finish (but don't like the interdependance stuff) but I'm trying to extract differences between linux and windows , to see what would enable the linux community to convert people user to linux ... I personnaly like a lot linux but don't use it daily (I couldn't since I program for... windows user) and it's for this reason that I've decided to represent all windows user that I was unable to convert to linux . And I think I do it quite good ... The free answer is not an answer since personnal user that do not want to pay crack programs and they doesn't see it as a bad things . The only answer linux have is the open minded one that is also to program things wanted and needed by user . I would like to pass to windows but : in windows user and a lot of company trust because of the uniformity (not true but) in linux there are too many toolkit and embeding methodsto do the same things , to many , I really like QT and kpart from kde but there is also gtk and bonobo from gnome ,windows maker to many things are good only when fully compatible , which is not really th case don't tell me I'm not true , if I remember standart are build only for ensuring compatibility and uniformity . > > My advice is to either make a choice and stop whining in the wrong place > or to profit from both worlds and pay $$ and/or a learning curve. ...like > anything in life... > Yep ... > > Guy >

very good answer windows user you have to call and ask company to port programs to linux or port them ;-) you will got all windows user with this , really ? oh yes , I forgot windows user have a lot of interress to spend time in supporting linux it's just what suck with linux , you want something contribute it !!! what ? the windows user MUST be a programmer to use linux ? or make a call and wait (it's what windows user will understand from youre answers) really , your serious ? As I said the only alternative I see is wine going to v1.0 and working... it really seams to take a while before this to hapen and for company porting theire apps forget it ... Linux seems not give them any gains... Meir Faraj > You pay for that software? if so, call the company you buy it from and ask them to port. I know I speak for windows user what do not want to use command line at all and that do not know what is plf (why ask him to know that plf exist , it is not mentionned officially ...) contrib it's hard for a windows user it's just the problem ... tell me that rpmdrake is searching also @ contrib + plf I will told you it's ok witch is not the case and not documented in easy help , windows user are user that did not want to read long faq etc for viewing only a dvd ... or playing a game etc windows user understang get this install execute next next next finish . it works . it's more simple go to plsf tape urpmi.admedia missing package (what?) Aille you've to add also contrib change 2 time install cd's etc... it's too many thing to do for a windows user ... It's simply sucks for him...

Re: [Cooker] Mandrake Made Easy: a modest suggestion for Windowsusers[linux , what sucks ?]
Before telling what suck (for win$ user)I would like to tell what to do for porting them to unix... Doing better things is essential but not sufficient since users having already configured computers do not want to reconfigure all things again in linux. I think that porting their configuration to linux option is a good thing: like their favorite folder , their mails , mail folders , config... , shortcut to my Document networks setting (adsl connection lan etc)... User that got all thingy better and unchanged a lot would be ported to linux smoothlier that not. second what sucks ? I ask friends I got some answers : "il ont essaye avec le srpm mais bn cest qd meme le bordel" I think the same it's to hard to install things because of dependancy , told to windows user : you want to install a dvd prog , with descss enabled go to plf (is ok) take libdcss go to contrib (what another things to do?)and the version x is needed for this ... blabla... it's not ok at all it's to complicate ... another sucking problems : do you want to create flash? excuse me this is a propriatary software and wine will be in version 1.0 in 2030 , it will execute it by this date smoothly without problem and without waiting few minute before seeing it in the screen with very bad fontsetc . same things for : dreamweaver , photoshop , kazaa , all adobe and all macromedia thingy you will said their are some remplacement , I and other windows user will ask you they sucks... I think that when wine will be 1.0 and will be fast in executing windows program (most windows common program) and eay on installation and good integration . at this time windows user will go out from windows and come to linux ... Meir Faraj > True, but Win's original post was made for a different purpose, contained in > these two lines: > > We are talking here about those little annoying things that make > windows users say linux sucks. > > The WINE people are now doing stuff like taking the top downloads from Tucows, > installing them on a clean system and seeing if WINE does The Right Thing(tm) > with them. > > If Mandrake wants to retain a reputation for ease of use, it will also need to > retain a propensity for making the tools do The Right Thing(tm) every time. > > Cheers; Leon > > >

And defining the "commonly > accepted best application" isn't exactly easy. I know but it will be good to try to do this since a user that want to for example use a messenger apps will have more than 6 apps and will have to try each one and play with options for , for example found the correct one for msn or ICq If for example everybuddy was the only messenger apps in the menu ans two down arrows like in windows menu give others poss . it will be easiest to found "better suited" apps and commonly used one .
Re: [Cooker] Mandrake Made Easy: a modest suggestion for Windows users
There is a lot of things Still to do : * first font are Very Ugly * Hebrew doesn't apear correctly (squares instead of letters) in all browers for a lot of site example http://ynet.co.il * Hebrew still not corectly supported by Editing tools . * video (like divx)have not always good performance and hangs a lot .(When I checked MDK 9 I've got this problems) * Flash are ugly but it's the font issue * DVD are hard to got working especialy for newbees (PLF etc...)and when got it works it's slow . * networks systray icon with states and activity . * systray autoHidding. * good rootkit integrated scanner (it's equivalent to antivirus for linux) * lacks of commercial apps that exist only in windows OS wine is not yet good enougth and I start to feel it will never be . * good CDRecording tools like Nero (I know that there are a lot but not good and simple as nero) * too many programs for each type ... hum... it will be good to put only one of each type and a submenu others so the "commonly accepted best one" will be on the top if the user execute another one from the submenu others it will replace the top level links so it will be the new default programs for this type. With a such option new user will be less out ;-) Hopes it will help;-) Meir Faraj - Original Message - From: "Leon Brooks" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Mandrake Cooker list" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, November 05, 2002 1:35 AM Subject: [Cooker] Mandrake Made Easy: a modest suggestion for Windows users > We have most of the technology, we can do it... > > http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=02/11/04/135233 > > Question for those on the list who still use Windows for soem things (e.g. > work desktop): > > What would you like carried across into Linux? > > Mandrake already does TTFs. [Cooker] MDK 9 works great ?
Hi , Want to tell you that I liked a lot LM 9 I've just 4 bugs that I've earlier posted that are present in 9 making me hard to use it. I've convinced a french friend to install it it installed it got to many problem and now it switched to (or trying to switch to Redhat). wanted just to point ou two link that told feeling about mandrake 9 : this one somewhat negative (Got many problem installing it) http://www.linuxorbit.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Reviews&file=index&req=showcontent&id=17 and (Very positive) http://www.linuxhelp.net/reviews/mandrake90.php Hopes all ones will give positive feeling next time ;-) What's al people thinking about desktop unification started by redhat ? I personnaly prefer a non unifacated desktop like in MDK 9 since each one are free to choose it's preffered desktop . How could I help for correcting the ADSL bug I've allready told from B3 and RC3 and now in final ? I'm just wanting to help so I can use LM 9. Using an os without a working Internet connecton is just impossible all other bugs are bugs I could live with but not this one !!!

Re: [Cooker] KDE3 in SuSe8.0 as off 22 April
Hi People who want to upgrade any of the package since they will release updat I think it stupid to say a distribution will be better that another one on the bassis that it wait until kde3 will be out. since kde3 is new it will have a lot of problems that will be fixed on later release and when it will rock it will be included on the next version 9.0 around september I think. I realy hope that Mandrake will live the current crisis it is really the best distribution never seen;-) I wanna to subscribe to the club but doesn't now how to paid since my card will only work on Israel ...
