[Cooker] [Bug 2360] [kernel] New: orinoco_cs 0.13a freezes system when card is removed

The last thing I see is the driver complaining that the hardware does no longer exist, just before the cardmgr tries to unload orinoco_cs. [Cooker] [Bug 2360] [kernel] orinoco_cs 0.13a freezes system when card is removed
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2360 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-02-24 22:00 --- I will test with cardctl eject - but I don't see any reason why this should not work, especially because this used to work very well with the old wvlan_cs driver as well as with orinoco_cs 0.11b! Some additional stuff: I can reproduce this freeze, it happens every time. Could someone please confirm or deny this issue? I'm testing this on an IBM ThinkPad T20, using the yenta_socket driver. Thanks! --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: UNCONFIRMED creation_date: description: When removing my wireless card (either a Lucent/Agere firmware version 6.16 or a Lucent/Agere firmware version 7.52, both from Lucent), my system freezes (no more console switching or hard disk syncing using magic sysrq). [Cooker] [Bug 1385] [XFree86] Savage driver corrupts the screen on laptops
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1385 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-02-22 16:20 --- I've got an T20 as well and no problem here (current cooker). Suspend: I have removed CHANGE_VT=7 from /etc/sysconfig/suspend, because it is not needed (it caused some problems, iirc). XFree86-4 config: I have the following two options in the Device section for the savage driver: Option ShadowStatus Option ForceInit BTW: closing the lid causes my system to suspend to RAM (which I normally use at least once a day). I can't use suspend to disk at the moment. --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: UNCONFIRMED creation_date: description: When I close the lid on my IBM Thinkpad T20, then open it later the screen is corrupted and I must switch to a console then back to X to fix the screen. [Cooker] [Bug 1256] [kernel] wvlan_cs and power management missing
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1256 --- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-02-17 17:13 --- I did some additional tests and it seems that the orinoco_cs requires an ESSID. If no ESSID is set (i.e. any), which I used to do in my adhoc profile, I get Error -5 writing Tx descriptor to BA (see Bug 1454). = The new orinoco_cs driver (0.11b) now works for me if an ESSID is set (tested only in MODE=Managed, not yet in MODE=Ad-Hoc - but I don't get the above error message any more iff an ESSID is set). Can someone else confirm this? --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. --- Reminder: --- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: ASSIGNED creation_date: description: The wvlan_cs module is missing from drivers/net/pcmcia I can see in the xconsole window that cardmgr is trying to insmod wvlan_cs but it doesn't exist-- I successfully copied the module from 2.4.21-0.pre3.1mdk tree (from 9.1 beta2) but I know that this isn't 'proper' Battery and power management is missing from the current kernel as from the previous beta

Re: [Cooker] Install everything (was: Simon Harrison on beta4)
There's a difference between installing everything and activating everything... --- Leon Brooks [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On Saturday 09 March 2002 07:24, Mr Simon Harrison wrote: There should be an 'install everything' option. [Cooker] Beta-4 observations.
Some minor points about Beta-4... There's no easy way to install everything. Going down the list of package groupings to install I find when adding some, other packages get removed from the selection. I have to go back and re-select them, then it works. In particular 'console' causes a number of other options to become de-selected. 2.6 GB or so really isn't that much space space these days. There should be an 'install everything' option. At the license agreement, hitting enter reboots the machine, which is a little annoying. Presumably the default key rejects the agreement but this is not obvious because you can't see which of the buttons is the default. it would be nice for first-time users if the dlg just stayed there until the user either hit the 'OK' button or the reset switch, or clicked on the 'no' button. On network configuration, after auto-detection you are told which card has been detected and asked if you have 'another one'. Unfortunately this is ambiguous because you could mean Do you have a different one -or- Do you have an additional (or 2nd) one. It's only clear which of these you mean in the following dialog. I would suggest changing the text to Do you have a different one?. (ahh the joys of the English language :-)). The boot-up sequence indicates that swap is being 'started', but I don't have any swap! Perhaps the message should change if there's been no swap partition created. In the lilo installation options there is an edit box that allows you to enter the (real) amount of RAM on your system. I was fearful of using this facility because I had no idea what the units were. Perhaps this could be made clear in the dialog text. The wrong order of magnitude -either way- would have pretty dire consequences on the next reboot. thanks for listening -S. __ Do You Yahoo!? Re: SCSI Support
Thanks for all the helpful replies Can't wait for my CD's so I can start playing with M8.0... Thanks to everybody for sharing their experiences and knowledge on and off-line... Re: SCSI Support
Thanks for the response Stew... while I await for my CD's I have a few more questions... Q. Does 8.0 support Reiser FS? If so will I be able to choose it during install.. All my 8.1 install on i86 are on Reiser FS and am more familiar with the journalized FS because of my days with Veritas on Sun and Solaris platforms... I am also hoping that Mandrakesoft would have better support and more releases on Sun platforms. I currently have SuSe on my Sun platforms. Q, Since I have YDL loaded right now on my Wallstreet, can I use the BootX I have installed on 9,2.1 from YDL and replace YDL's ramdisk with M8.0 all.gz and install that way also copying vmlinux from the M8.0 boot directory onto 9.2.1 to boot off from once install is done? Q. Is all.gz and all-2.2.gz both 2.2 kernel based? Is vmlinux and vmlinux-2.2 both based on 2.2 kernel? If so, where can I get 2.4 kernel and support? Q. Do you know what video options I have to give for the Wallstreet? I didn't give BootX any when I installed YDL2.0.. TIA, hope you don't get tired answering my querries Thanks On Thursday, November 8, 2001, at 04:34 AM, Stew Benedict wrote: On Wed, 7 Nov 2001, Mr Mac wrote: Stew, Thanks for the speedy response... I just ordered 8.0 from the Mandrake site. I have downloaded the 2 cd's a couple of weeks ago. I feel the $20.00 goes to further development of future Mandrake releases for PPC platform. I have just upgraded 8.1 on all of my i86 based platforms (Compaq Dell notebooks / HP Dell Workstations). Thanks - hope to keep Mandrake PPC going. Q. What wireless cards are supported by 8.0? Is the cisco aironet or Orinoco wavelan supported? I have both and they work on MACOS9.2.1.. Have yet to make them work on OS X I run most my systems at home wireless Q. Where can I find documentation for installing 8.0 on my Wallstreet (old world rom)?... I believe I need to boot and install using BootX. I think there is a little on BootX in the included doc I did on the CD image. Essentially you need a kernel from /boot annd all.gz as a ramdisk, and then try using the options you'll see in yaboot.conf in /boot. 32000 for ramdisk size and whatever video options may be appropriate. I haven't heard from anyone on here with a Wallstreet. I currently triple boot off my Wallstreet... MACOS 9.2.1, OS X and YDL 2.0 (BootX installed on 9.2.1 to boot YDL2.0) Although I also bought YDL2.0 release, I haven't had much luck at YDL 2.0 support and since I am more familiar with Mandrake... I would like to move and migrate towards this release instead of upgrading to YDL 2.1... Q. Will I be able to install over my YDL 2.0 partition (hda13) without jeopardizing my 9.21 (hda10) and X(hda9) installs? You should be able to. Most folks have installed fine with various flavors of MacOS on the machine, myself included. That's not to say there hasn't been anyone that hasn't had a problem. LinuxPPC onthe drive seems to give the most problems, as they use a slightly different boot methodology that seems to confuse the installer. If all goes well, 8.0 will be installed on my Prismo 400 and TI G4 500 as well... Both still sit on MACOS 9.2.1 Any help and tips on installing all all my PPC platforms will be greatly appreciated. If you check out the archives http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=mandrake-cooker-ppc You may pick up some specific tips for your machines, as well as Phil's FAQ in my sig at the bottom. If this the wrong list for me to ask, please direct me to the right list Nope - this list is sort of dual purpose. Ongoing user support and marching ahead to the next version. Posting here is fine. M4753 Wallstreet
Does Mandrake 8.1 PPC CD boot on a M4753 Wallstreet upgraded with a Powerlogix Blue Chip 500 Mhz?
Re: M4753 Wallstreet
Sorry, fat fingers... I meant 8.0 PPC. I'll load and try it today.. Thanks M/M - Original Message - From: Quentin Mason Does Mandrake 8.1 PPC CD boot on a M4753 Wallstreet upgraded with a Powerlogix Blue Chip 500 Mhz? Mandrake 8.1 is not out for PPC yet AFAIK. Linux works fine on my wallstreet II [512k L2 cache] w/ powerlogix blue chip 466 MHz [now 1mb L2]. I use MacOS 8.6 and BootX. MacOS can choose to view lcd or external monitor which linux picks up but I know of no way to switch once in linux. Mac-on-linux works well. I do not know whether the CD will auto-boot -- you may need to set up BootX instead but once you install linux will work just fine. I know another guy who has used linuxPPC on his wallstreet + powerlogix 500Mhz. Good luck. Q.
