Thanks for your solution. I have already done this, but I think it is a strange thing
to make the
root's desktop have no icons by default.

Still present in the final 9.1. It is very very astonishing !

Solution to this problem from Michael O <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (read in a
posting in alt.os.linux.mandrake).

Log in as root and start the KDE Control Centre > LookNFeel > Behavior.

Under "Misc Options" enable "Enable icons on desktop". Also have a look at "Clic
on Desktop" to enable mouse actions.

Still broken with latest cooker. The watch icon is annoying. Menus work fine.

I have this problem too with the 9.1rc2, there are no icons on the desktop when I
login as
root. I think the severity of this bug should be set to major or critical, don't you
think ?

I get this too (base RC2 install).

However, same thing happens when I try to login as a 'normal user'. (Security
level during install was set to highest.)

Appears to hang at the first-time use setup/config (just a guess)...

Still valid.

Normal user login is fine, but root never has any icons shown on the desktop and
no login banner.
