Found the problem - I went under Mandrake control console and boot options and
enabled acpi - then I had to add ohci1394 to the /etc/modules

After that - it works!

I have the same firewire problem on my sony pcg-grx316mk, kernel 2.4.20.
(i tried knoppix, because there is win2k all over the harddisk, but the problem
is the same...)

lspci tells me that the irq is set to 0. I tried setting it with setpci -s
02:05.2 interrupt_line=9. (on windows, it works on int 9). but running lspci
after that tells me again that it is set to 0.

I found this whilst searching the net:

I had this problem with my R505DS. Try recompiling your kernel to force
PCI direct access (CONFIG_PCI_GODIRECT=y). GOANY and GOBIOS both
failed, but GODIRECT works.

Of course, sbp can't log into the CD-RW/DVD drive on the dock -- but at
least now it's a 1394 problem and not PCI.

Maybe this will help?
