Uhm, if I wanted to do this, I'd take FreeBSD! One of the reasons I like
Linux more, is that I don't have to compile everything myself.

You're probably right though, I should take my coding knowledge of assembly,

This is a devel list, but more specifically it's a devel list for the next
version of Mandrake Linux, and if everyone just compiled their own source
every time they had a problem running something on cooker it sure would make
it hard for the Mandrake guys to know when there's a problem. The only reason

as well. I thought possibly something became corrupted on my drive so I
removed the bad rpm's here and re rsynced them and they were bad straight

If you bother to search in archive you'll found many similar cases and the
reason behind all these wrong rpms.

Yes probably you're right, what developers need here is help from
community not heated debate. This thread should be stopped.

Yes, this is a developer's list but not everyone gets a stiffy over compiling
from source. If you're so adamant about doing so why do you even bother with
Mandrake, why not go Slack? If anyone doesn't belong here it's you. Why
don't you do everyone on the list a favor and leave. Sorry for the off topic
post folks but I belong to numerous mailing lists and lately there seems to
be an over abundance of folks feeling a need to wave their dicks around.

 Ladies, ladies, c'mon calm down.

He's got a point - it is handy to be able to compile RPMs for situations
just as these when the ready made RPMs don't work, but then so do you -
Mandrake has a reputation as an easy to use distro, and your average
newbie doesn'tt know, and in an ideal world shouldn't have to know, the
 first thing about upgrading.

But let's not turn this mailing list into a flame war huh guys?

Giles, I have to agree. The thing I find a little frustrating right now
is although it would be reletively easy to compile from source, being
this close to final, I would like to stay as stock as possible. A simple
word or two from the Mandrake team (who I know are darn busy) would go a
long way to keeping flame wars down.

Yeah I'm with you on the keeping stock thing too, I am trying to keep my

I mirror cooker here every hour and it's perfectly fine. The reason
for many new updates with librep was because of new versions and
because of a little oops in -1mdk. If you'll notice, it went from
0.12.2 to 0.12.3 in a three day period, and from 0.12.3-1mdk to -2mdk
in one day so I'm not sure what you're talking about?
