Could this maybe be an easily selected option (if it isn't already) ?

Hi Adam and Buchan,

Well, if you think openning up a terminal then type cdrecord -scanbus is
friendlier than k3b does it for you then...be it. I'll be shocked if a
john doe user even knows the command ;) Please note at the beginning of my
email does say if MD wants to be the most user-friendly distribution. It
means I'm not thinking for myself cause I use cdrecord command line to
burn my CDs everytime.

Agreed. And on a multi-user system, whose desktop should it appear on? My
most common CD-writing uses are:
$ cdrecord -v dev=0,0.0 MandrakeLinux-9.1-CD1.i586.iso
and
$ cdrdao copy

And for the first command, it is most often run from an ssh session on
someone else's box, where they most certainly don't want to have popups
interfering with their work (it's bad enough me doing it ;-))

xchat is in NETWORKING_IRC, and NETWORKING_IRC is in Internet
station[1], so it should be installed, if it's not there is
another problem, /root/drakx/{install.log,ddebug.log} should
help.

we should be able to at least quit cleanly ( umount on all fs then
reboot ) the install process whenever we want.
sometimes we begin an install and want to stop ( not enough time, or a
pb ), or just want to change partition on disk but don't want to install
( or maybe it was to remove ), etc ...

[Cooker] Few items for wish list

2003-08-14 Thread Larry Nguyen
Dear developers and fellow cookers,

Since Mandrake ultimate goal is the friendliest Linux desktop, I thougt I
could submit a few requests

1. xchat: not sure why it's not installed when I did select "Internet
station". BitchX not there either :( Sure, "urpmi xchat" is not that
difficult but it's nice if one doesn't have to do an extra step.

2. First-time-wizard: please add options to select port for simap. Also, my
name and email address are not populated in KMail identity.

3. k3b: ArkLinux has this litto nice feature (or maybe it's k3b feature that I
don't know) when one pops in the blank cdr, k3b starts and asks what he/she
wants to do: create data cd, ISO images, etc. It would be nice if MD could do
the same.

4. Installation: IIRC on the old versions, one could click on any steps so
that for whatever reason the user wants to cancel the installation, he/she
could just click on Exit button on the left (can't remember the exact
description of the last icon/button). I was stucked in Partitioning screen
last nite after realized I forgot to back up the data on the partition I'm
about to wipe out with MD beta2.

Thanks for reading.

OK, how would a new user find out that they could do that? Is there a
hint anywhere in the startup messages?

I don't think so, but that wasn't the question ;-). And it probably won't
work in text-mode either.

Being user-friendly does not equal being noob-friendly. It's just as
important to be friendly to advanced users, which this certainly isn't.

HELL no. At least make it optional and disabled by default. This is the
kind of crap that made me stop using Windows in the first place! What if
I want to use a different app? What if I just wanted to use, say, cdrdao

just put DEVICE=0,0.0 in /etc/default/cdrecord, to make your typing less
tiring :-)

Don't know if it's a big idea.Ie: i have to also do it for POP(SPOP),
SMTP(SSMTP). Newbies gonna be puzzled by too many choices.
Besides this need to know if there is only the port that is changed
from IMAP to SIMAP.

Hmm. I need extra infos (Identity Section in
~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc)
