Re: [Cooker] First try w/ 2.4.0
I'll only reply to the last line. Since I thought the pcmcia support was included in the kernel rpm itself, I assumed it would obsolete the pcmcia-cs-2.2 (AFA I remember, I never saw any pcmcia-cs-2.4). Now, I dont have the machine here, but I think I did an 'rpm -ql kernel | grep cardmgr' and it came back empty. checking the Changes file from the source archive i find that the pcmcia tools are listed (version 3.1.13 minimum) Until the Drakes do a new version (the suse rpm won't work) you will need to get the source code.. Some of the support for stuff in the kernel depends on having the tools built for the support . And as far as my using HTML in e-mail lets talk about how many from source kernels you have done? (i think ive done about a dozen ) This should be in plain text. http://download.sourceforge.net/pcmcia-cs/pcmcia-cs-3.1.17.tar.gz for the SOURCE CODE to the new card manager

okay a few things i would try 1 go in the readme file and grab any updates you need (bet you need at least one) 2 grab the full kernel source archive (yeah all 20 megs of it) and do your own copy (AnyDrakes want to cough up the .config and patches?) just as a check you did make sure the Map file is correct (if it isn't SomeDrake needs to be shot) its a bad idea to uninstall stuff unless you know exactly what its doing (retry the kernel.rpm?)
[Cooker] First try w/ 2.4.0
Hi, Following the appearance of the Holly Penguin, I installed today 2.4.0-0.6mdk, and it seems to work fine. Just two little things to report for now: 1. Starting gnome, I receive an error "Error querying battery charge, make sure that your kernel was built with APM support". # chkconfig --list | grep apm apmd 0:off 1:off 2:on 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off However apmd does not appear to be running and I can't start it manually. 2. Looking at /var/log/messages the following lines seem odd: Jun 26 09:18:16 erux sysctl: error: 'net.ipv4.ip_always_defrag' is an unknown key Jun 26 09:18:16 erux sysctl: error: 'net.ipv4.tcp_syncookies' is an unknown key (...) Jun 26 09:18:31 erux kernel: Installing knfsd (copyright (C) 1996 [EMAIL PROTECTED]). Jun 26 09:18:31 erux rpc.lockd: lockdsvc: Invalid argument Jun 26 09:18:31 erux nfslock: rpc.lockd startup failed Jun 26 09:18:32 erux nfslock: rpc.statd startup succeeded (...) Jun 26 09:18:37 erux kernel: kmem_create: Forcing size word alignment - nfs_fh Jun 26 09:18:37 erux kernel: nfs warning: mount version older than kernel The boot.log gives: Jun 26 10:21:26 erux rpc.lockd: lockdsvc: Invalid argument Jun 26 10:21:26 erux nfslock: rpc.lockd startup failed Jun 26 10:21:26 erux nfslock: rpc.statd startup succeeded Now when I try to access a remote host, I get a warning: Jun 26 09:19:55 erux amd[768]: mount_nfs_fh: NFS version 2 Jun 26 09:19:55 erux kernel: nfs warning: mount version older than kernel That's it. Anyone tried on a ReiserFS machine? Also, I removed kernel-pcmcia-cs since I thought the pcmcia support was native in 2.4 (some modules are indeed present), but there is no cardmgr anymore, so the insertion of a new card is not detected.
