How about hacking in an option to switch to console login (init 3) in
GDM as KDM has? I find that a very useful feature.

It's a feature.. Ask gdm folks :))

In all seriousness though, I miss that little option to 'switch to
console mode'. could you have an option to enter a runlevel (decided by
user) that was turned off by default but could be turned on in gdm
config? Possibly you might be forced to not allow switch to level one
though for obvious reasons. I dunno, just seems useful. However, if I
can gather enough pics of mdk people I might be able to put together
something (site, tribute, credits, etc.) so send one over.
:P
See what I mean? Fun.

Totally bridging off topic, I hacked kdm on my Mandrake to have another
switch to go to initlevel 4... then added the following to my inittab:

tr:4:wait:/usr/X11R6/bin/xinit -e tuxracer -- /etc/X11/X -xf86config
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4.gl
tr2:4:wait:/sbin/init 5

Now I have tuxracer mode. :)

There is no silver bullet. Plus, werewolves make better neighbors than
zombies, and they tend to keep the vampire population down.
