I've loaded all the modules.. And it still says that same thing. I see a
/proc entry for acpi.. but the contents of the files like for information on
the battery and such are not correct.. it can' detect if i have a battery or
not.. but no information about it .. and other things

Is the 8200 acpi? I had an 8100, it used apm, not acpi.

I don't and it works on my sony. All you need is to have the newest acpi
patches and klaptop will display correctly. I don't use mandrake kernel
though, so I don't know what's in the acpi. Maybe boot param acpi=on?

IIRC you need to install acpid in order to get full functionality (for
battery monitoring, AC adaptor on/off, etc.)

You also (in fact you just need) to have a "working acpi" compiled with
your kernel to get battery monitor functionality.

If it's the case and you still can't manage to make it work, ensure that
you have relevant modules loaded:

fan 1984 0 (unused)
thermal 8096 0 (unused)
processor 10136 0 [thermal]
button 2732 0 (unused)
battery 6752 0 (unused)
ac 2208 0 (unused)

All depends on your laptop manufacturer ...

It probably means that you don't have a standard ACPI implementation (like

made one which seems correct for Compaq Presario 2800, if someone need it),
to put it in /usr/src/linux/drivers/acpi/dsdt.hex, to set in your kernel's
config file CONFIG_ACPI_TWEAKED_DSDT=y, and to recompile...

Have a nice night ;-)

Sebastien.

PS: My explanations may are a bit obscure, but in fact it's not really
complicated.

I dont think the program will matter .. when I go into /proc/acpi
and run cat on the info for one of the batteries i get

present: yes
design capacity: 0 mWh
last full capacity: 0 mWh
battery technology: non-rechargeable
design voltage: 0 mV
design capacity warning: 0 mWh
design capacity low: 0 mWh
capacity granularity 1: 0 mWh
capacity granularity 2: 0 mWh
model number:
serial number:
battery type:
OEM info:

and the other files in there either show nothing.. or bogus data

You also (in fact you just need) to have a "working acpi" compiled with your
kernel to get battery monitor functionality.

If it's the case and you still can't manage to make it work, ensure that you
have relevant modules loaded:

fan 1984 0 (unused)
thermal 8096 0 (unused)
processor 10136 0 [thermal]
button 2732 0 (unused)
battery 6752 0 (unused)
ac 2208 0 (unused)

All depends on your laptop manufacturer ...

Sebastien

try:

modprobe battery

you might also like:

modprobe ac
modprobe button
modprobe fan
modprobe processor
modprobe thermal

and then to save the bother, you can put all this in /etc/modules:

ac
battery
button
fan
processor
thermal

All this is, so far as I can find, documented nowhere at all. Someone
really needs to write some half-decent acpi documentation...(and no, I'm
not doing it, because all I know came out of this list).

I have it installed. It didn't make a difference. This is on a Inspiron8200.
when i look under /proc/acpi there is stuff under there but i'm not sure what
i should look for.

IIRC you need to install acpid in order to get full functionality (for battery
monitoring, AC adaptor on/off, etc.)

¨urpmi acpid¨

Run akpi instead. If it works you have functional acpi.

[Cooker] Kde ACPI battery monitor

2003-01-15 Thread Jeremy

The battery monitor on the tast bar shows a grer / black battery with a red X
over it. And when i click on setup it says

"Your computer seems to have a parital ACPI installation probably ACPI was
enabled, but some of the sub-options were not enabled - you need to enable at
least 'AC Adaptor' and 'Control Method Battery' and rebuild your kernel
