yes I know many things were broken otherwise I would have used src from the

I'm responsible for the update to 8mdk, it was only a tiny update from
7mdk. I've rechecked the .spec file, there's nothing in there that
should even remotely conflict with any part of kde (as far as I'm aware
of).

Maybe this happened:

[root@stefan RPMS]# rpm -Uvh kdeli
kdelibs-2.1-0.20010209.1mdk.i586.rpm
kdelibs-devel-2.1-0.20010209.1mdk.i586.rpm
kdelibs-devel-static-libraries-2.1-0.20010209.1mdk.i586.rpm
kdelibs-sound-2.1-0.20010209.1mdk.i586.rpm
kdelibs-sound-devel-2.1-0.20010209.1mdk.i586.rpm
[root@stefan RPMS]# rpm -Uvh kdelibs-*
file /usr/share/doc/HTML/en/kab/index.html from install of
kdelibs-devel-2.1-0.20010209.1mdk conflicts with file from package
kdeutils-2.1-0.20010111.1mdk
[root@stefan RPMS]#

Maybe you tried to upgrade more than one rpm at a time, I can't think of
any other explanation...

Oh, and when we're talking about file conflicts, could the kdeutils
maintainer please update the package?

Stefan

dependency..thanks

I've just done something similar, but the error is file conflicts, something
like
kernal-2.4.1 file conflicts with kdeaddutils<=2.0.3mdk

kdeaddutils?? What has kernel to do with more kde junk, ehm , i mean naturely handy
programs.

But i think the kernel-cooker has some problems with the glibc from 7.2 and if thats
true building a kernel from source is much, much easier

i don't think you need this package to install kernel :
So do a --nodeps there .

[Cooker] Problems with 2.4.1-8mdk

2001-02-09 Thread Don Awalt

I am trying to get the 2.4.1-8mdk smp kernel installed on a 2.2.17 Mandrake
7.2 system with all the current rpms'd updated (the 2.4.1 kernel would be
the only cooker addition). I rpm -ivh the headers, source, and docs. I
then did rpm -ivh on the kernel-utils. When I rpm -ivh the kernel-smp, I
get dependency error on kdeaddutils. So I download that from cooker and
tried to -ivh and -Uvh the kdeaddutils and there is a ton of dependency
errors (libXft, libXrender, libfreetype, libmng, libstdc++, libc. Is there
something simple I am missing, I didn't think I had to upgrade a bunch of
cooker stuff to try the rpm kernel, but it's not clear to me what the
dependencies are...
