I just did at the request of Chmouel and it did not
help.

All this is now documented under bugzilla bug #525.

None of the 2.2.17 kernels up to -13mdk have gone past
the partition check on my box ... 2.2.16's & 2.4.0's
work fine; however, I reordered the ide controllers
such that the promise is ide0 & ide1 and the mobo is
ide2 & ide3.

This is the entry in my lilo.conf:

-
image=/boot/vmlinuz
label=linux
append = "nohdparm ide0=0xfff0,0xffe6
ide1=0xffa8,0xffe2"
root=/dev/hda1
read-only
-

And here is my pci info:

-

I have tried 2.2.17's with and without the +2
addresses, with no luck. That, and the fact that
2.2.16 and 2.4.0 both work with the +2 addr leads me
to beleive the problems is some where else.

This is an ongoing problem - I wish someone at Mandrake would fix it - see
this...

I had this too. It is something stupid with the 2.2-17 kernels. I went
back to using the 2.2-16 kernel and the Promise works fine. 2.2-15 and
2.3-99 work too.

Read /usr/share/doc/HOWTO/HTML/en/mini/Ultra-DMA.html. What you need to
do is to see what IO addresses Mandrake writes in lilo.conf for your
second tertiary and quaternary disks and add two to each.

It works fine on my box with kernel 2.2.17-0.24mdk. You ought to be
able to install OK - the hang on partition check occurs when you reboot,
so be sure to make a boot floppy with rescue when you install, then fix
/etc/lilo.conf from rescue.

Good luck.

[Cooker] Promise ATA-66 Beta 3

2000-10-02 Thread Marc Olivier Chouinard

Im trying to install Mandrake 7.2 Beta 3 on an 10gig HD using an ATA-66
Promise Addon Card

And it froze at the detection of the harddisk, after trying to detect an few
controler and my CDROM, it just jam

My configuration is :
2x128mb ram
SOYO 6BA+ IV
CDROM 40x Standard
DVD-ROM 6x Standard
Quantum FireBall LM 10.2gig
P3-550E + socket370 board to Slot1

SoundBlaster Live
3dfx Voodoo 3500TV
Matrox Millenium
10/100 Compaq Network Card
Promise ATA-66

My 2 CDROM are connected seraratly on my standat ATA33 controler onboard on
different cable
I got 1 HTP366 Controler onboard that I dont use because It crash Win2k So I
added the promise ata66 that work perfect (except Mandrake). Here are some
driver on promise page for redhat installation :
ftp://ftp.promise.com/Controllers/IDE/Ultra66/RedHat/Driver/Beta/U66d100.zip
Maybe you could include them in Mandrake.

I use the card in my Linux computer before and it work fine but slow. Ive
flashed the bios, maybe it dont reconise it as an standard IDE controler
PIX4 or something like that..

Contact me if you need more informations
