Still the same after deleting the __* files from /var/lib/rpm. What to

2001-07-22 Thread Gary Lawrence Murphy

I had the same dilemma for a week;

The voodoo that worked for me was to use my old rpm3 to --rebuilddb,
which seemed to give me partial abilities to install packages. I then
manually installed all of the rpm* menu-* db3-* locales-* and
grpm/urpmi packages from the very latest (yesterday) cooker using
"rpm2cpio|cpio -id" eventually gave me a successful run of using RPM4
for a --rebuilddb.

unset LANG, LC_.

maybe 'LC_ALL=C' would help as well.

If this rpm thing gets any more complicated Bill Gates is going to want to
adopt it. :)

Sometimes also the rpm database will become corrupted and rpm
--rebuilddb won't be able to fix it. But if you can find the package
that is causing the problem (for example, a package that can't be rpm
-e'd), sometimes you are able to download an older version, rpm -ivh
--force that one, rpm -e that one, and then rpm -e the bad package. I'm
not familiar enough with all these db{1,2,3} formats to know why this
works, but I have used this technique many times in the past.

Upgrade locale. I notice that if your locale are old the rpm will segfault on you. If
your rpm is not working because it's crashing
you can copy /usr/share/locale from other system and rpm should stop crashing.

I'm already running the latest versions of those (1.6.3-0.6). :(

I used the db_verify utility from the db3-utils package to verify all of
the rpm databases and received no errors.

A cow-orker (Hi Paul!) has the same level versions and his works fine.
Maybe I have bad juju?

[Cooker] RPM segfaulting

2001-06-20 Thread Steve Fox

I updated my rpm-* packages today and after the update rpm segfaults
every time I try to upgrade/install a package.

[root@tp RPMS]# rpm -vv -Uh ispell-3.1.20-15mdk.i586.rpm
D: == ispell-3.1.20-15mdk.i586.rpm
D: Expected size:   128547 = lead(96)+sigs(149)+pad(3)+data(128299)
D:   Actual size:   128547
Segmentation fault

Happens to every RPM I try, but I can query the database and --rebuilddb
no problem.

Anyone else hit this? How can I provide more useful information?
