Works OK here. Thanks Peter! I just fired up another X server on a different userid and it works there... looks like yet another migration issue to track down... sigh Pierre This is something I have been wondering about. How do I start an x session for a second user. I.E. I am working on something and my son wants to paly for a while, I would like to log in his Id and let him go without closing my own session. I know it's not cooker but I appreciate your time all. Chuck

[Cooker] Staroffice
I've installed (net install) Staroffice 5.2 on a MDK 7.2. The install /net (as root) worked fine but I cannot do a user-install in my private drive (as myself). What i don't understand is the fact that the README refereces the MAK 6.0 as using the glic 2.0 while the application seems to struggle to find it. A quick look in the /etc/ld.so.conf seems to effectively to indicate that the available library is not right snip /usr/X11R6/lib /usr/i486-linux-libc5/lib /snip I wander if I need to put in the ld.so.conf the /lib directory too or simply put a symbolic to some place or ... Could some one give me some hint(s) ? Tx, Thomas, SESSION [tsmets@Calvin tsmets]$ /mnt/cdrom/linux/office52/setup ERROR: setup system check failed: libc.so.6 library not found StarOffice 5.0 uses the new glibc2 (=libc6). The libraries above could not be found. The glibc_inst.tar package includes a README file which describes how to install these libraries. It will be made available on the StarDivision ftp mirror sites in the same directory as the StarOffice installation files. You can try to run setup (and StarOffice) anyway. If it does not work or you experience strange crashes or get unresolved symbol errors we recommend installing the glibc_inst.tar package. Do you want to proceed anyway ? y/n /SESSION -- Tue May 8 21:33:54 CEST 2001 Thomas SMETSe-mail : [EMAIL PROTECTED] Av. de la Brabançonne 133 / 3 Tel. : +32 (0)2 742. 05. 94. 1030 Bruxelles === Quote of the Day = Science and religion are in full accord but science and faith are in complete discord. = End of Quote ===

Re: [Cooker] StarOffice Freeze
Just tried this and it still locked up. Maybe there is some kind of library missing. This really sucks. I may have to switch to SuSE 7.1, it works really well on my laptop, and I can get my sound working with SuSE too. --- Eric MC [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Have a S3 video card also. OK, thanks. I'll try tomorrow with compat-glibc. The package is OBVIOUSLY not installed with 1.8 GB of software... really intelligent thing, for none use StarOffice of curse... Well when I read the licence agreement when I donwloaded it. It says that I am not allowed to distribute the file that I downloaded. And that licence agreement is the one you bind yourself to. So then they better change their licence agreement you get thrown in yer face when you are about to download. Michael Irving I was just watching the Sun webcast at : http://webevents.broadcast.com/sunmicrosystems/sun0899/ And I got the totally opposite impression. The Sun guys were literally begging the Linux distros to pick StarOffice up. I do clearly remember them saying that StarOffice is free to distribute. Dont believe me? Watch the webcast. Its a long one but he says it at least a couple of times in the first quarter of the event alone. I didn't watch it all.
