There isn't that much v8-compliance in the code as you may think (but hey
server messages work now).

For now, I believe that you still need to get them to uncheck that magic
box in the security and privacy settings.

Depending on how things go, I would very much like to merge this into cooker,
but that will mainly depend on people's experiences with using the v8 client
and how fast development goes on the Licq side.

These experiences are important as I wish to know if the unsupported v8 one
is any better (or worse!) than the current cooker one. By that, there are
several core issues:

- interaction with the server
- interaction with other clients
- stability on Licq client's part

Since I use your RPMs I can communicate again via the server, when behind
a firewall.

 - interaction with other clients

From home I am even able to communicate directiy with Winow$ clients.

 - stability on Licq client's part

No crash/hang so far ...

Only major problem I have had with the v8 version is with console mode, I

- Server send messages work
- updating user info works (not always, but more often than official did)
- URL sending still crashes client, otherwise appears stable (official has

Strange. Are you sure? All protocol stuff should be done within the Licq
daemon, not the plugins.

 - Server send messages work

If these work, then v8 is there.

Direct connection update is broke, there is a CVS fix, but I won't build a new
one right now. When I do, I'll give everyone a note.

I can't reproduce this in the Cooker version.

Can you please

(1) verify for the cooker version
(2) verify for the v8 version, if it's reproduceable, give me an an exact
test case, exactly as you type it (the aliases that you send to you can
subsitute something else, those shouldn't be too important.)

To be exact, it is when I highlight a URL, and double-click on a user that
causes LICQ to crash. This use to switch it to URL-send mode, and copy the
URL. Now it lauches the send window, and freezes.Tried with both qt-gui
and kde-gui. Only way to recover is to kill LICQ.

 (1) verify for the cooker version
licq-1.0.4-0.5mdk.i586.rpm

licq-1.0.4-0.5.V8.1mdk

As above, it only happens on a 'copy and click'. At first I though it was a
conflict with klipper, as turning off klipper appeared to help, but only for
one message, and then the problem came back, just not as quickly (a minute or
so would pass before LICQ would freeze up).

Ok, got it.

I have done some small test here against several buddies of mine, and direct
messages do not work at all. I guess it's because one, or both parts is
behind forewalls.

Is there a list somewhere that shows which ICQ version ranges that uses which
protocol versions? It feels real stupid to have to _ask_ them what they use...

Unfortuntely not. My understanding is that anything above 2000 will not work
unless you uncheck that magic box but even so it doesn't mean that the windows
client will speak anything v7 to you.

First things first: even some stuff with the server are not complete for v8
so I think that it's good to put that as a priority as what the V8_BRANCH
is doing now.

I like to receive experiences on what works and doesn't work (similar to the
case when the kde2 pre snapshots were provided in the kde1 days). I haven't
been receiving too many positive / negative reports apart from you and Stefan,
but what happens to the cooker branch of Licq will largely depend on these
experiements I am conducting right now.

Everything is open LAN-EXERNAL, but only one dedicated ICQ udp port (4000)
for EXTERNAL-LAN.

It is not possible to set this with the Licq version found at:
