I did it in sort-of-arbitrary way (you had to fix a maximum integer that should correspond to a rate). It worked for me, but I always was unsure if my number was correct. But these are hard to make and softwares are very interesting (there is no genealogy software, no braille display driver and no speech recognition software in Mdk).
