Re: [Cooker] Kaiman locked my machine.

2000-12-15 Thread Scott Langley

Yes, moving to kernel 2.2.18.0 seems to have fixed the problem for me. No
lockups yet. I'm still running Mandrake 7.2 and not yet Cooker. Hopefully,
the code that fixed this problem is making its way into the 2.4.test
kernels, as well.

2000-12-14 Thread Scott Langley

I wonder if you have a SoundBlaster PCI card? I do, and the KDE Cd Player
has been causing the same symptoms you describe for me.

Supposedly, the new 2.2.18 kernel fixes a IRQ leak related to the sound
blaster card. I'll try it soon and see if it makes a difference in my case.

2000-12-13 Thread Trebor A. Rude

Was sorting through some .mp3s, and launched Kaiman, via the "KDE Media
Player enqueue" action in Konqueror. Everything was fine, until I hit the
play button. Then the system froze fairly hard. The mouse refused to move,
ctrl-alt-bs had no effect, etc. The system responded to ping, and to
alt-sysrq-b, but didn't seem to respond to alt-sysrq-u. alt-sysrq-k only
had the effect of destablizing my screen (like one of the syncs was way
off or missing). ctrl-alt-f[1-6] had no effect, either before or after an
alt-sysrq-r. Any clue what might have caused this? I realize it's not much

I got the latest kdemultimedia source tarball and compiled it
myself.

Doesn't that count as upgrading it?

[Cooker] kaiman... is this *supposed* to do something?

2000-11-26 Thread Steve Wray

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hey there...

Question: has anyone (using mandrake) gotten kaiman
to do anything?

On the multimedia menu there is an entry for
KDE Multimedia player.

Selecting this menu entry does nothing.
I note that the menu entry points to kaiman.

Sound otherwise works on my system.

I note that the file association for mp3 files
points to kaiman.

Clicking on an mp3 file does nothing.

Using xmms to open an mp3 works fine.

Running kaiman on the commandline results in:
Skipped one element '49'
Skipped one element '50'
Preset_1_Button not handled yet.
Ignoring style element Preset_1_Button
Preset_2_Button not handled yet.
Ignoring style element Preset_2_Button
Preset_3_Button not handled yet.
Ignoring style element Preset_3_Button
Preset_4_Button not handled yet.
Ignoring style element Preset_4_Button
Preset_5_Button not handled yet.
Ignoring style element Preset_5_Button
Preset_6_Button not handled yet.
Ignoring style element Preset_6_Button
Found 24 elements.

and then it just sits there and does nothing.

I got the source for kdemultimedia, compiled kaiman and running
the resulting binary gives the same messages.

Sorry if Chris feels like I'm trying to get on his case just asking and
wondering if the problem was specific to me. Everyone does great work on
Mandrake which is probably more then I can say so... ;O(

Thank you!

I was able to get kde 2 to compile and run yesterday on a gcc 2.96 machine. I
am currently doing a final set of compiles and then will do an install. If
all works I will recommend an update to cooker users.

Hello Naz,

instead of getting any responsibility to mandrake, it could be bug coming
from kde2, i will do a bug report to mandrake. So I guess there will be a
solution. See als the mail from Chris Molnar, who is really taking care of a
excellent integration for kde2 into Mandrake 7.2, but don't forget that we
are all human beings.

I guess wait tell the updates are released for kde2.1 which will hopefully
bring about a fix, I pulled kaiman out of my konqueror file associations,
but seems to be a real pain since I had a friend that just learning
linux-mandrake and couple times he started kaiman by activating a multimedia
file and it trys to start and he was not sure what was going on just know
his system was slowing to a crawl. Seems to be a bad point for a user
friendly distribution. But just trying to bring up a point that I feel needs
to be addressed, and in respone to a earlier posting, that I feel was kinda
of a attack, just trying to bring up a problem so it might be addressed, and
even if kaiman is "trashy" it's still a problem in a easy to use
distribution that should be taken care of in my opinion.

Thanks

Same here on my box, kaiman will not work and is eating up all the memory and
could only be killed -9. Otherwise it's started next reboot. Really a bug.

What can it do that xmms can't?
I think that kaiman is a rather trashy piece of software.

[Cooker] kaiman

2000-11-08 Thread michael nazaroff

Whats wrong with kaiman is everyone having problems with it? Is there going
to be a rebuild kdemultimedia to fix kaiman, since it's never worked at
least for me only thing that happens is it uses about 86 percent of my cpu
and uses up most of my memory and stay like that tell I kill it, but does
not segfault. Just wondering what going on? Hopefully cooker will be
getting more on topic since as of late seems to be wondering some.
