No. 4.2.1 < 4.2.99. 4.2.99 is current CVS HEAD, which will become 4.3.0. 4.2.1 is a minor bugfix release for 4.2.0, it doesn't include all the HEAD stuff. -- adamw

i don't know... i know that in xfree86 cvs there's support for geforce4. and i know that in the latest xfree distributed by mandrake ( 4.2.1 ) there is no support for geforce4 :-( so maybe it would be good if mandrake could patch their xfree86 to support geforce4... bye, gabor On Tue, 2002-09-10 at 07:06, Valéry Raulet wrote: > Charles A Edwards wrote: > > >On Mon, 9 Sep 2002 17:43:07 +0100 > >Mark Watts <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > > > > > >>Is there a fix to get console fb working with this card, or do I have > >>to wait for an update to the fb stuff in the kernel ? > >> > >> > > > > > >fb be not the problem. > >GeForce4 is not yet supported by XFree. > >As you found your only options are use of non-fb/SVGA and/or the nvidia > >drivers. > > > > > > Are you sure, in sources from 4.2.99, I saw : > >The nv driver supports PCI and AGP video cards based on the following >NVIDIA chips: > >RIVA 128 > NV3 > >RIVA TNT > NV4 > >RIVA TNT2 > NV5 > >GeForce 256, QUADRO > NV10 >GeForce2, QUADRO2 > NV11 & NV15 > >GeForce3, QUADRO DCC > NV20 > >nForce, nForce2 > NV1A, NV1F > >GeForce4, QUADRO4 > NV17, NV18, NV25 > > Isn't it included in 4.2.1 ? -- That's life for you, said McDunn. Re: [Cooker] Geforce
The drivers for the Geforce2 GTS only work with X4.0.1 What you need to do to install a Geforce2 GTS is 1. Download X4.0.1 and The Nivida Drivers form xfree86.org and nivida.com 2. Install X, then use xf86config to configure the XF86Config File. When asked if you want to see the driver database press y then 311, this will select a nvidia drive (It won't do anything but it will make it easier to edit the file later). 3. Compile the Nivida kernel and GLX drivers. They will install them selves. 4. edit the XF86Config file , mcedit /etc/X11/XF86Config, F7 search for glx and remove the # sign. Then search for nv and change it to nivida then F2 & F10, you will be returned to the command line, type kdm (or what ever you login manger is) and every thing should start. You can delete the files you install X with and the Nivida files. thought it had to be xfree > 3.3.5 was needed. not a lower version. it looks pretty good as is. unless you saw a miraculous improvement, if it's not broken, why break it? ...is it really easy to install, or do you have to follow the instructions to the "T" on extracting to the seperate dirs, etc? don't have quake on it yet. would be nice. did pump my 19" to the 1600x1024 for the xscreensavers (opengl ones), they look better than the windows screensavers. can't wait for better accell tho.
