Everytime i reboot my computer, first login to KDE fails to initialise sound: device /dev/dsp doesn't exist I have to restart alsa service to make it work. I didn't have this problem when using kernel sound drivers. arts-2.2.2-26mdk devfsd-1.3.21-2mdk initscripts-6.40.2-13mdk Have you tried to clean up /lib/dev-state? Because it works for me ...

See my another message with subject ATTN: clean up /lib/dev-state when updating to new devfsd/kernel/initscripts It's full of broken symlinks :-) I guess it is refreshed at shutdown, so i can safely delete everything there ? Except any link in /dev you (or some program) have created manually will be lost, like /dev/modem. Simply recreate such links. -andrej
